[Bug 995074] Re: Can't print from Evince/"Document Viewer" HP 4215

2012-06-09 Thread N8N
Has Adobe Reader been included in the 12.04 repositories yet? I'm
having trouble installing from Adobe's web site and can't seem to find
it in Synaptic. Starting to get really frustrated and disappointed in
myself for forcing the upgrade to 12.04. this is starting to become a
big deal as more than half the files I need to print (shipping labels
etc.) are .pdf files.

2012-05-07 Thread N8N
printer is directly connected to PC by USB and in fact I do not have a
home network set up at this time - I did once upon a time and I was able
to print to the same printer connected to a different (Windows) PC, then
moved it directly to this one and it still worked fine, now it works
with all apps (that I have tried so far) except Evince

[Bug 830063] Re: caps lock works across all keyboards but LED does not

2012-05-05 Thread N8N
I was able to duplicate this behavior by connecting two keyboards to my
desktop which was recently upgraded to 12.04. I used the Noppoo Choc
Pro mentioned above as one of the keyboards and the behavior of Caps
Lock was identical to that which I originally reported.

I also tried printing a .pdf that I know I had printed previously (it
was one that I generated myself from OpenOffice.org and had posted on my
website back when I had one) and saw the same behavior so it seems
pretty likely that it is not a problem with the files.

[Bug 995074] Re: Can't print from Evince/"Document Viewer" HP 4215

2012-05-05 Thread N8N
Just tried it again as I was not certain whether I had tried preview or
not. Also used a different .pdf file than previously. Did not select
print preview, just went straight to print, the document is in my print
queue with status of "stopped."

More information that may be useful: the document has a size of "US
Letter, Portrait (8.49 × 10.99 inch)" when I view properties in evince
window, but when I check print job attributes in the queue it says
"PageSize Custom" the other thing that seems like it might have
information that would be useful to figuring out what's going on is that
it says "job-printer-state-message /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip
failed"

I would give the whole text of the print job attributes but I can't text
select on that window.

Let me know if you think any more info would be helpful or if you want
me to try anything

[Bug 995074] [NEW] Can't print from Evince/"Document Viewer" HP 4215

2012-05-05 Thread N8N
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded to 12.04 from 10.04 a few days ago. Am able to print test
pages, web forms, and Libre Office documents but when I try to print a
.pdf opened with Evince, the document goes into the print queue and
stays there with a status of "stopped." The only thing that I can do at
that point is to cancel the document, the only other options available
are "reprint" which puts it right back in the same state, and "retrieve"
which saves the file to disk. I can't say with 100% certainty that I
was able to print .pdfs from 10.04 but I can't imagine that I was using
that distro for several years without having the occasion to do so at
least once.

[Bug 792787] Re: i "lock screen" comeback later I don't get a login prompt, I can ctl-alt f6 and login so the system is still working I just can not get back in graphicly without a reboot

2011-12-20 Thread N8N
Follow-up: If I set my screensaver to "fiberlamp" (a non-GL
screensaver) everything works as it should. So this seems to imply that
this is a problem only with GL screensavers. If there's any more info I
can offer to help nail this down, please let me know.

I am having the same issue, when the computer goes to screensaver
tapping a key or moving the mouse will freeze the screensaver but will
not display the login screen. However if I type in my password I can
get back to my account. Obviously this is undesirable and won't work
for computers shared with multiple users. I believe that this is
related to GL screensavers only from info. that I have found on the web;
if I use "blank screen" as my screensaver everything works fine. Have
the same issue on two different machines both running 11.04.

[Bug 830063] [NEW] caps lock works across all keyboards but LED does not

2011-08-20 Thread N8N
Public bug reported:

Am using an external keyboard on a laptop (Dell Studio 1555) and have
noticed that on any external keyboard if I press Caps Lock on the
laptop's own keyboard that the LED will not light on the external
keyboard, although anything that I type on that keyboard will be
capitalized. this was not a huge problem but I also recently got my
hands on a Noppoo Choc Pro keyboard which apparently reports to the PC
as several different keyboard controllers to achieve NKRO over USB and
on that keyboard the Caps Lock LED does not function at all. I did
verify that it functions 100% correctly in Windows 7, so it does not
appear to be a problem with the keyboard, rather, I suspect that the
Caps Lock key and the Caps Lock LED are reporting on two different
virtual keyboard controllers. If I use the Noppoo keyboard as a PS/2
keyboard and then connect it to the PC through a Belkin active PS/2 to
USB adapter, the Caps Lock LED functions correctly.

[Bug 583077] Re: quadrapassel unplayable because of flicker

2010-05-27 Thread N8N
I am having the same problem, quadrapassel works fine on initial
install, the problem occurs after enabling the proprietary ATI video
driver. Have experienced this on two different machines. Does not
occur with desktop effects enabled with the default open source video
driver. I've left the ATI driver enabled as this is the only issue that
i've noticed so far other than some mild weirdness with TORCS (have not
tried to see if it is driver related)

[Bug 489991] Re: Dell Laptop - external display goes blank when using docking station

2010-05-10 Thread N8N
I am having a similar issue on my Dell Precision M90 also in a Dell
docking station using a Samsung P2570HD monitor. Fresh install from
.iso of 10.04; however, I was having the same problems on 9.04 as well
(I skipped over 9.10) With the laptop docked and the lid closed I have
the exact same symptoms. I get BIOS, GRUB, Ubuntu splash and then
external monitor goes dark when it switches over to login screen (is
that the point when x starts?) If I do this in a dark room I can see
that at the same time the monitor switches off, the laptop's LCD display
turns on. I suspect the problem is with the nvidia proprietary drivers,
however, as I have discovered the following:

- everything works perfectly with the nvidia proprietary drivers completely
uninstalled, and the monitor connected with either a DVI or VGA cable.
- everything works perfectly with the "nvidia accelerated graphics driver
(version 96)" installed, and the monitor connected with a VGA cable.
- the problem occurs with either "version 173" or "version current" with the
VGA cable, and all three versions with the DVI cable.

I have not extensively tested this with either VGA or DVI (and obviously
my keyboard and mouse) directly connected to the ports in the back of
the laptop, although I can do so if desired as I am using USB
connections for both. Currently I am running the DVI connection and the
graphics drivers disabled, although I certainly would rather use 3d
graphics. Workarounds are less than ideal as I have a small desk and am
using the Dell monitor stand that holds the docking station and the
laptop to save space. Also, using the DVI connection, the Fn-F8 switch
("LCD/CRT") does not work, although I'm not entirely certain that that's
a real bug.

If you need any specific info about my setup or would like me to test
more with the laptop *out* of the dock but with the lid closed just let
me know. Unfortunately I suspect that this is likely a nvidia problem.

If I do need 3d acceleration I can use the VGA connection with the
version 96 driver, but video quality is markedly better with DVI so I
really wish that that worked...

2010-05-01 Thread N8N
can confirm that this bug still exists on final release version of 10.04
(upgraded on the 29th from 9.10) previously functioning Gateway 7330GZ
laptop with 82852/855GM graphics suddenly would go blank and freeze
after GRUB screen. Could boot into safe mode. Options to reconfig
graphics and troubleshoot problem in safe mode menu do not do anything.
Removing and reinstalling xserver-xorg and xserver-xorg-video-intel
(using default versions in synaptic) did not change anythingHave
temporarily copied contents of xorg.conf.failsafe to a new xorg.conf
file (none previously existed?) until this can be resolved. Update
manager shows no updates available as I type this.
