[Bug 1709708] [NEW] Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but produces no sound on NUC6CAYH
Public bug reported: Upon bootup, the HDMI output connected to a Samsung TV shows up as an output. If this output is selected and a sound test run (either using the GUI or using aplay /user/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav) no sound is heard. Pavumeter does however show sound coming through. I found that sound can be fixed by allowing the display to sleep, waking it up, and then restarting pulseaudio (pulseaudio -k). After that sound output through HDMI to the TV will work until rebooted. The fix can be succesfully scripted as follows: xset dpms force off sleep 1 pulseaudio -k The machine is an Intel NUC6CAYH, connected to a not particularly new Samsung 42" TV using an HDMI cable, running a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04. In earlier attempts at fixing the issue I set pulseaudio to never let the sound device sleep (commented out load-module module-suspend-on-idle in /etc/pulse/default.pa), and also set the default sampling rate to 48000 (default-sample-rate = 48000 in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf). Not sure if these settings contributed to the fix, but they are not sufficient on their own. [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome]
I think a good modification to the invisible drag handle proposal would be to rather use resize border resistance. This is a solution that won't require more than 1 px of UI space to work well. How I envisage it working is: 1) keep your arbitrarily small window border resize 2) Define a resize-resistance size, say 5 px 3) Once the user moves the pointer over the resize edge, the resize cursor will appear 4) The resize cursor will remain active until the user moves the pointer at lease 'resize-resistance' many pixels away from the resize edge 5) Click-and-hold while the resize cursor is active will result in window resizing. This seems to me like it should have 100% backward compatibility, require only changes to the window manager, will be theme independent and will still be easy to use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 Title: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome] -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 3198] Re: [radeon, savage] Starwars screensaver locks X
Well well, I have good news and bad news. Good news: The demise of starwars in gutsy was greatly exagerated; It's still in xscreensaver-gl-extra where it's always been http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelistword=xscreensaver-gl-extraversion=gutsyarch=i386 Bad news: Still crashes as hard as ever ;((( I'm getting really frusrated for several reasons: 1) I like the starwars screensaver 2) the hard crashes undermine my confidence in general 3) It's been more than 2 years since I first reported the bug with no apparent progress 4) I don't know how to contribute to finding the problem in a more meaningful way. Anyway, given the hard-crash nature it seems clear cut to me that it is a problem in DRI or Xorg that is just brought to light by the starwars screensaver. Presumably not only ubuntu users should be seeing it unless it's some long standing ubuntu divergence from upstream that is causing the issue; that seems unlikely though. I.O.W. should we not be taking this upstream? By the way, specific suggestions regarding 4) would be appreciated! ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Confirmed -- [radeon, savage] Starwars screensaver locks X https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153301] weather applet won't use automatic-proxy-configuration
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets In gnome-network-preferences the proxy can be confgured as Direct internet connection (i.e. None), Manual proxy configuration where the host/port of the proxy server is specified and Automatic proxy configuration where an URL pointing to a .pac proxy configuration is specified. If Automatic proxy configuration is specified gweather-applet-2 ignores that setting and uses the information provided in Manual proxy configuration, even if it is disabled. To see this, 1) Change the manual proxy setting to point to an invalid proxy server and restart gweather-applet-2. Now the weather won't update 2) Activate a valid proxy configuration in Automatic proxy configuration and restart gweather-applet-2. The weather still won't update 3) Change the Manual configuration to point to a valid proxy server but do not activate it. Keep using the Automatic configuration and restart gweather-applet-2. [Bug 107025] Re: Multipage printing issue using even and odd.
I see this bug is still marked as need info. Peter Russel seems to describe the issue clearly, and I also just ran into the same issue trying to print a long document using pages per sheet = 2. I want to print on both sides of the paper using a printer that doesn't support duplex printing. Using the definitions as: Page: logical page as defined in the document Sheet: physical piece of paper as loaded in the printer If I have an 8 page document that I want to print using 2 sheets, I want: Pages per sheet: 2 Then selecting + Pages per sheet: 2 + Only print: Odd sheets I expect page 1 page 2 to be printed on sheet 1, page 5 6 to be printed on sheet2. Now I turn the sheets upside down and reload them in the printer, and select: + Pages per sheet: 2 + Only print: Even sheets I expect page 34 on sheet 1 and page 78 on sheet 2. Is there anything else that can be clarified? [Bug 3198] Re: [ati radeon] Starwars screensaver locks X
Hi I did some more testing. I ran the xscreensaver package from Hoary on my Edgy system with no crash. Hoary shipped xscreensaver v4.16. Breezy (the version where crashes started happening) ships xscreensaver v4.21. If you look at the xscreensaver changelog entry for v4.20 http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/changelog.html you will see: * starwars uses texture-mapped fonts now. It seems likely that this is what is causing the problem. What is strange is that no other GL screensavers cause a crash though. I would like to try and run a v4.20 or newer xscreensaver on a Hoary system to see if the xscreensaver update merely exposed a latent Xorg bug or if the Xorg crashing is also a newer bug. BTW, I see this bug is marked as need info. Is there any more info I can provide? I'm willing to run debug-testing code or whatever it takes on my machine to get to the bottom of this. -- [ati radeon] Starwars screensaver locks X https://launchpad.net/bugs/3198 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 3198] Re: [ati radeon] Starwars screensaver locks X
Hi I've updated to Edgy now. The crash happens with both gnome-screensaver and plain x-. [Bug 66386] Starting XMMS with double size on locks (crashes) system hard
Public bug reported: After upgrading to edgy, starting XMMS locked my system hard, requiring a hardware reset to reboot. I edited ~/.xmms/config to turn off the double size option, and it starts normally. If I enable double-size after starting xmms the display is currupted, but no crash. [Bug 66386] Re: Starting XMMS with double size on locks (crashes) system hard
Seems to be related to https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xmms/+bug/63144 although in #63114 no-one reported a hardware lock. The workaround: export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xmms also seems to fix the problem for me. -- Starting XMMS with double size on locks (crashes) system hard https://launchpad.net/bugs/66386 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 3667] Re: multipage (2 pages to 1) print function not working
OK, confirm that 2 to 1 printing works on a real printer (HP ColorLaserJet 3800 in this case), but does not work when printing to file. Should we expect 2 to 1 printing to work when printing to file?
