[Bug 1008095] [NEW] Precise is slow, no reactive as its alphas
Public bug reported: Hello All, I helped testing Precise during all the development phase and I must say it loud : it really smooth, ractive, fast. I really enjoyed using Precise when on alpha / Beta Cycle. But once Precise Final was out , it was another world, another reallity. I don't know goes wrong but Precise Final is slow, to many lags on the same Machine I always test the developement versions of Ubuntu. Having tested Precise in Alpha phase, I really know what Precise capable. I have done two new Install especting something better but no, the system is still slow, many lags with apps. As I said, I'm a tester so I have Quantal on a patition befor the ISO was made public. and Quantal is much faster on the same Computer. Public bug reported: Hi guy, testing Precise since the beginning, I decided yesterday to test the upgrade from Lucid to Precise. I run it on a dedicated patition. I didn't really pay attention to the proposed action after the upgrade was done ( and I think ther would be many users which wouldn't pay attention too ) . in the Remove item proposal, the appmenu was beyond the list, as said without paying attention and free up some place, I choose to remove those items , with play a central role on Precise. The results of this action is that Precise had no global menu anymore, I had to manually install it after. Hello all, I have yesterday submitted on Ayatana an Idea about the Dash Home Screen. , when reading a thread about mockup I saw this bug report and decided I could post here my idea, may be point could be interesting for you. I paste here the description I gave on Ayatana : Currently , in Unity there is not a good way to manage multiple windows of the same Instance. up to now it is not worse, we can deal with it. but what if I want to have a sight of my whole Activity ? Expose or Grid doesn't give an answer. That what my design try to solve, and by the way , indirectly propose a way to manage multiple windows (instances) of the same apps. that is the core of the Dash, and as extra, We have a Pinned App category, Available Updates ( sorry in the pic I wrote availible , don't blame me for that) and option to shutdown , log out, lock screen and more. before you ask : why is Gedit doing in the development Category ? The answer is : As gedit is running, the Dash looks for the extension of the opened files. If it is one of a programming language : c, cpp, html, css, py, java ... then the Dash lists that instance in the Development Category. The cross over the Pinned App just mean that clicking will unpin that App. The cross over the App in Activity mean that clicking it will close that instance. As you see, my proposal is to offer to the user the possibility to have a whole view of his activity and from it the possibility to manage his activity. For the Pinned category , the Pinned App would be a mix of the Launcher's pinned App and some app we don't use on the regular basic but when we do use it, we don't want to have to search for it and don't want it to appear in the Dock: MusicBrainz is such an example: I don't use it on a regular basis , but I do use it , once on the week, so having it pinned in the Dash would be good. We could add to it an Entry for the recently Installed App, so we would no more need to add a just installed app to be able to locate it on the system: Our Activity View shows us what we are doing. What is the advantage of this proposed design / solution : 1- brings an answer to the question where is the app I have just installed ? 2- Brings a good sight of the running App , so we could manage more windows of the same app without any problem 3- give the user the assurance that he has the control Sorry the spelling , I'm not a native speaker. The odd thing is that it appears randomly but more often, when a window is maximized. I work around this bug by changing the hide setting on CCSM and then reverting it to the previous state. Public bug reported: When I minimized a window, the app-menu-indicator keeps showing the menu of the minimized application. sorry but I'm really against this Fix. audio file previewing is one of our habits and it is a great feature to test a song without having to open Banshee or any other audio software. Tom : any solution yet to enable the preview of audio file is welcome. Public bug reported: when switching between opened windows, I have to wait for 5-10 to pass before I can get a response from the window. the way reproduce it is not well define yet : here is how I manage to reproduce it : 1 - have at least two windows opened , but for better results have at least 3, all not maximized . ( see the pic attached) 2- minimize one of the windows and restore it. 3- now try to change the focused window to another one only with the mouse by try to clicked on the window behind another one.From now you should have noticed the bug I'm describing right now. Note: in the attached pic, Chromium browser is maximised but I can not give it the focused by clicking on it. for that task I have to alt-tab it . sorry I could have given more information on the first post. This probleme starded with Oneric. with earlier snapshot of Oneiric ( Alpha 1/2 ) I was able to unzip a file. I have localized a zip file I have modified in the past on Oneiric, from the Properties menu, the last time the file was changed is the 31th July 2011. I have no issues with rar/tar /iso file. the icon just go in the middle of the session and doesn't come back again. I have to logout and login again if I want it to come back. Yet it just goes again, after login out since I reported this bug. Yet we can no more use the Del key to delete a file on our desktop, we have to press Ctrl + Del to do so, and close to it we have also Shift+ Del to definitely delete a file from our Drive. We could so simply mistake the two shortcut keys . And now Worse, we no more are able to do Ctrl + C and then Ctrl + V ! please , Ubuntu dev, don't let us fall out. We need a patch.
