[Bug 901879] Re: Installer crash using CD

2011-12-08 Thread Nick Twigg
@Brian Murray,

It would appear you are correct. Further tests proved the hard drive is
faulty. All in order now that a new hard drive has been installed.

For the record, memory is fine and system self-diagnostics reported no
fault apart from the hard drive (S.M.A.R.T Hard drive failure immenent)

Sorry for the wasted bug report!

Nick

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2010-07-24 Thread Nick Twigg
Turbolad : Please read
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/192508/comments/52 - It could
help.

The biggest issue I've noticed is that this happens with Remote Desktop
enabled. Can anyone else confirm this?

I have a fresh install of 10.04 and had bug 549727 and this bug.

Thanks,

Nick

[Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-07-24 Thread Nick Twigg
I would like to add that I DONT have a trackpad or touchpad installed,
and use an MS Wireless Multimedia Keyboard V1.0A (WUR0335).. This issue
presented itself and the keyboard would just stop working. The menus in
10.04 would highlight (i.e Applications, Places and System) but no
dropdown would occur. I disabled any desktop effects to no avail.

At first, I kept hitting the power button on the machine to switch off
and on, as the menus would not respond, however, as un-scientific as it
is, if i pressed my hands on as many keys as possible, I was given an
Ubuntu Notification then my keyboard stopped working.

The notification looked like a trackpad, so I looked in the notification
folder, found the icon, and found what normally uses it for
notifications (BTW - There was no record of the notification in the
log!)

From there, it led to this bug, and to this fix :

gconftool-2 --type string --set
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad

~Which runs at every login. I know, elegant, eh?

This is a fresh 10.04 install.. One thing I did notice tho, is bug
192508. That bug could be related to Remote Desktop.. Is there a
possibility this could also be? Does anyone have RD Enabled?

Thanks,

N

Could you provide more information in your report please?

I.e I take it your running Gnome, but how many items are in the
wastebasket? Can you delete files individually or does that freeze the
system?

Are there any other symptoms you can think of?

Is this the Live CD or an install?

Please update with more information (you can never have enough info).

[Bug 351343] Re: Partitioning at install shows no progess 9.04 beta 5 AMD 64Bit

2009-04-02 Thread Nick Twigg
I have one 320Gb Hard drive, which had XP SP3 installed before I ran the
live CD.

I had to set up manually the following:

The disk was divided into 2 partitions (sda1, sda2), both 149GB in size.
sda1 is NTFS, and houses my (now defunct) XP install..

sda2 (extended) is split into the following:

sda5 ext3 mounted on / and is 143Gb in size,
sda6 is a linuz-swap, and is 5Gb in size

(sizes are rounded down).

Any more info needed, give me a shout!

Thanks,

Nick

[Bug 351341] [NEW] Install from Wubi wont auto reboot. 9.04 beta 5 AMD 64Bit

2009-03-29 Thread Nick Twigg
Public bug reported:

Downloaded 64bit ISO for AMD and burned. Fired up wubi and elected to
install on reboot, and choose restart computer now.

Clickinf Finish simply takes me back to the main Wubi screen, and no
reboot occurs.

Its a small thing, but just to let you folks know.

[Bug 351343] [NEW] Partitioning at install shows no progess 9.04 beta 5 AMD 64Bit

2009-03-29 Thread Nick Twigg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

When installing from the livecd environment of 9.04 beta 5 AMD 64Bit,
and having set up the partitioner (which, BTW defaults to selecting to
erase the whole disc!) the progress bar does not move from 0%. It
stayed like that until it decided it was finished, and moved on to the
next screen.

I could only tell there was activity with the disks by the HDD light.

[Bug 276145] [NEW] Apace2 default configuration incorrect for allowoverride

2008-09-29 Thread Nick Twigg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

The configuration file under /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/default (or
000-default) is set up so that the allow override all setting wont work
when directories or files under /var/www are called as a site.

The values at install are :

DocumentRoot /var/www/
Directory /
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride all
/Directory
Directory /var/www/
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride none
Order allow,deny
allow from all
/Directory

Whereas, for mod_rewrite to work correctly, they should be

DocumentRoot /var/www/
Directory /
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
/Directory
Directory /var/www/
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
allow from all
/Directory

For the record, I have chaged the first and second AllowOverride to All.

The caps A seems to be *VERY* important.

[Bug 239193] Re: Firefox closes randomly when loading web pages, possible java or flash problem?!?

2008-07-06 Thread Nick Twigg
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xb7c776c0 (LWP 10826)]
0xb018431c in ?? () from /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

Looks like the flash player is playing up.. I got a SIGSEGV, then that error.

I'll uninstall the non-free version, and play around with one of the
other options..

[Bug 239193] Re: Firefox closes randomly when loading web pages, possible java or flash problem?!?

2008-07-05 Thread Nick Twigg
Same here - problem cannot be reproduced. This has only started
happening since v3 was installed through the auto updated in 8.04.

When a website is visited, the browser just quits. No notices, no
warnings. When starting it back up again, you get the Firefox closed
unexpectedly - restore tabs options though.

It then restores the page you initially had open before clicking the
link. If you click the link again, it works fine.

AFAICT - this only happens on link clicks - not with typing addresses
into the address bar.

I have noting in /var/crash , and I'll install the firefox crash thingie
as suggested by them, see if I can get any more info.

I'm going to have a guess at a flash related problem. I tried installing
the Adobe verison of Flash direct from thier website to see if that
recitified any problems, but it just dies again.

I'll look into installing another flash option - but this may not be
suitable for all users.
