[Bug 933103] Re: evince crashed with signal 5 in g_settings_schema_get_value()
I had a similar problem. The fact that evince crashes is a bug. But it was triggered, in my case, by a leftover old installation of evince in /usr/local. After removing /usr/local/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.Evince.gschema.xml and /usr/local/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled, evince started working again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933103 Title: evince crashed with signal 5 in g_settings_schema_get_value() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evince/+bug/933103/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 515737] [NEW] xrandr automatically enables VGA1 output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When I plug in an external monitor into my laptop's VGA port, I often want to first query that monitor's EDID information, and then enable the VGA output using a particular mode based on that EDID information. For example, I might want to enable exactly the 1024x768 mode if a projector supports it, or the 640x480 mode if it doesn't. Or, I might have a script that runs from udev whenever a VGA hotplug event is signaled, and the script wants to figure out what monitor is plugged in first, and then based on some heuristics, figure out what screen configuration I want (e.g. one EDID value indicates my office monitor, which should go above my laptop screen, and another EDID value indicates my home monitor, which should go on the logical left). Unfortunately, the xrandr command (or, more precisely, xrandr --prop) enables the VGA1 output in addition to listing information about the currently connected outputs. It would be great if there were an option to query EDID information without causing any side-effects. As is, this results in double flickering (first, when xrandr decides to enable some default configuration, and second, when I manually, or my script automatically, chooses a more appropriate mode to use). [Bug 430031] Re: Can't start X through gdm or startx
I am having a similar problem with Intel graphics. It looks like the kernel won't go into KMS mode after a recent apt-get dist-upgrade -- the console stays in the standard 25x80 text mode (whereas before with KMS it would go into a much higher-res text mode), and X won't start, complaining about /dev/agpgart missing (indeed, it's not there). I can boot into a previous kernel (2.6.31-9.29) where KMS seems to work better (the text console goes into high-res mode at bootup), and X starts, but for some reason the keyboard and mouse don't work. [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display shows corrupted desktop
The primary reason I wrote my comment was because I observed my X server hanging. Indeed, the reason I found this bug was because I get the same stack trace in dmesg showing where the deadlock occurs. It is not known to me whether display corruption is related or not, and in my first comment, I indicated that it might or might not be the same bug. [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display shows corrupted desktop
I recently updated to kernel 2.6.31-9.29 and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu1 (from whatever karmic was about a month ago, which worked fine), and I'm seeing this deadlock as well (on a Thinkpad W500). I'm also seeing all kinds of display corruption (leftover shadows, images scrambled, etc), but I don't know if it's the same bug or not. Below is the kernel dmesg output; the X server is locked up and unresponsive, but otherwise the machine is running (accessible via ssh over the network, for instance). [Bug 400797] [NEW] (Intel, KMS) xrandr cannot change relative positions of outputs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Running kernel 2.6.31-3.19 and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.99.901+git20090702.74227141-0ubuntu1 on a Thinkpad W500 laptop, I cannot get xrandr to place the VGA output anywhere but to the right of the LVDS output. In particular, I used to be able to run xrandr --output VGA --auto --above LVDS or xrandr --output VGA --auto --below LVDS to get them stacked vertically with respect to each other. Now, these commands do nothing; the VGA output gets always placed to the right of LVDS and none of these xrandr invocations change it. Another minor annoyance: previously, running xrandr would only list the state of the different outputs. Now, running xrandr seems to automatically enable the VGA output, without any request on my behalf to do so. [Bug 395292] [NEW] NetworkManager too lax about pruning out-of-range wireless networks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager network-manager seems to be very aggressive about accumulating new SSIDs but not very good about pruning SSIDs that are no longer being broadcast and are not visible in scan output. One result is that, after using a laptop in a car moving through a city, network-manager shows a ridiculous number of wireless networks (all of the networks that it heard about for some period of time), making it hard to use the network-manager gnome applet. There are many wireless networks showing strong signal, but which have long gone out of range, and it's impossible to distinguish them from those networks that have weaker signal but have the advantage of being in range at the moment. r...@sahara:/home/nickolai# iw dev wlan0 scan | grep ^BSS | wc -l 25 r...@sahara:/home/nickolai# /usr/bin/nm-tool | grep Infra, | wc -l 278 r...@sahara:/home/nickolai# On the other hand, network-manager seems to pick up new networks very fast, indicating that it is getting the list of currently visible networks quite often, just not removing them fast enough. Assuming there's some internal timeout, it would be great if it were configurable. Maybe it is, but NetworkManager(8) is not terribly informative. [Bug 394114] [NEW] Intel X KMS color issues and hangs on resume or un-blanking
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Recently updated to a KMS kernel X driver in Karmic on my Thinkpad W500 with Intel graphics. Three bugs appeared: 1. After DPMS activates (e.g. xset s activate), I often (but not always) cannot get the screen to re-display anything, e.g. by typing on the keyboard or moving the mouse. The screen stays blank even though everything appears to be working fine otherwise. 2. After resume from suspend, the machine often (but again, not always) brings up the pre-suspend screen image, and hangs, not responding to any input (mouse or keyboard), and seemingly not even running applications that I would expect to update the display on their own (e.g. the clock is stuck). 3. When viewing images (e.g. in firefox or in Gnome's eog viewer), stray individual red, green, and blue pixels appear throughout the image. What's more exciting is that these stray pixels jump around a little bit when you drag the X window containing the image, although they seem to stay in the same general vicinity, creating a sparkling effect. I did so. the situation improved significantly(though i still experience the bug occasionally). however now there is something wrong on startup. i have to restart pulseaudio manually (it shows up in task manager so im pretty sure it is running on startup). i tried running it in debug mode to see if there was something obviously wrong with the logs here's an excerpt: ... [Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear
This change makes the multi-screen experience strictly worse in at least one scenario, as follows. In my case, I have an external VGA screen that's smaller than my LVDS screen, and physically placed above it. After running xrandr --output VGA --auto --above LVDS, my desktop extends upward to include the VGA screen, but gnome-panel remains at the top of the LVDS screen (since it's larger), in the middle of my logical desktop. This seems odd, since windows that span both screens are now interrupted by a gnome- panel. To make matters worse, when a new window is created and placed on the LVDS screen, the window is aligned to the top of the LVDS screen, as opposed to the bottom of the gnome-panel. As a result, the window's title bar is placed below the overlapping gnome-panel, making it difficult to move the window. -- gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear
I don't see that this would have changed with this patch would it? Weren't both panels placed on the same screen before this change as well? Prior to this change, my gnome-panel would move to the top of the combined desktop (top of the VGA screen), and there would be no instance of gnome-panel anywhere on the LVDS screen. This allowed me to have very tall windows that spanned multiple screens with little visual interruption. -- gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 286285] Re: kernel 2.6.27-7-generic bug BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper/0/0x00000100
To add a somewhat different data point, I observed this bug report's problem on a Thinkpad W500, which has an Intel WiFi Link 5300 card managed by iwlagn, connecting to an 802.11bg AP (Verizon's Westell 7500) and using WPA2. [Bug 290052] Re: STAC9872AK failed to get sound input
I did go through the first two pages you mention, this is where i got the alsa diagnostics link. But most of the guidelines are for malfunctionning sound output, which is not really my problem. Besides the sound card seems to be detected and listed correctly by aplay -l. if there is any other diagnostic i may do please tell me :) As for the previous situation on Hardy, model=vaio got the internal mic working, but not the jack (more a workaround than anything - the jack only worked back in 7.10) . note that i did not use the upgrade process to get to 7.10-8.04, but a fresh install. on the contrary, i used the update manager for 8.04-8.10. [Bug 272307] Re: T500 Suspend to RAM is flaky
When trying to suspend-to-ram or hibernate on either a T500 and a W500 (with integrated Intel graphics selected in the BIOS on the W500), 8.10 beta (up-to-date as of October 22nd, kernel 2.6.27-7, amd64) hangs when X runs after resume. Resuming to a text-mode VT works fine (with both suspend-to-ram and hibernate), but as soon as I switch VTs to X, the system freezes with a partially-rendered X screen contents, and the kernel appears to hang (wired network stops responding to pings, capslock does not toggle, etc). Attempting any of the workarounds suggested in this bug report so far does not help (either unloading USB modules or the various vbe quirks). Hangs occur both with and without hardware DRI support (i.e. both when using and not using the i915 kernel driver). Would be happy to test suggestions or provide more specific information. -- T500 Suspend to RAM is flaky https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
