There is no kernel upgrade because you are on a different stack. You
have to install it manually via terminal. Type

sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic linux-headers-generic

[Bug 1163720] Re: Brightness control broken on XPS13 with 3.8.0-16 and 3.8.0-22

2013-09-07 Thread Nikki1993
alex, you know that by switching to EFI you did nothing? you are suppose
to not only switch mode to UEFI, but ALSO install OS in UEFI mode for
brightness to work on .29 kernel. Unfortunately, it seems like the fix
for Brightness control in BIOS mode broke the brightness in UEFI mode.
So this is kinda fix/breaking patch.

[Bug 954661] Re: backlight brightness not adjustable by default on Dell XPS 13

2013-08-18 Thread Nikki1993
To all those wondering about backlight in Precise and Quantal, if you
switch your BIOS mode to UEFI, and reinstall Ubuntu in UEFI mode, it
will fix the brightness issue. You can use your function keys out of the
box, and they will change the brightness accordingly.

The only issue is, with the fresh Precise installation, you will need to
update your kernel through the Updater, otherwise your brightness will
be stuck on the lowest one. After an update, all issues gone, and you
can use your laptop as is :D

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-08-16 Thread Nikki1993
Daniel, did you actually reinstalled Ubuntu in UEFI mode? because it
fixed the issue for me. Simply switching BIOS mode to UEFI mode doesn't
help. Your system still boots in Legacy mode. You have to have Ubuntu
installed in UEFI mode in order for brightness to work.

[Bug 1125944] Re: (gedit:3366): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of /home/oem/.config/ibus/bus is not root!

2013-04-28 Thread Nikki1993
I don't think this bug related to Gedit, more like an iBus problem. I
get this issue every time I am trying to start application with "sudo".

[Bug 1086289] [NEW] Wrong grub-efi resolution during OS boot menu selection

2012-12-04 Thread Nikki1993
Public bug reported:

So I recently decided to try to install windows 7 and ubuntu 12.10 in UEFI mode
and succeeded in doing that. Both system load as the should and everything work
perfectly but there is one thing that keeps bothering me and it is grub
resolution.
Before that I was using dual boot system Ubuntu and Windows in BIOS mode and
grub resolution was correct 1366x768 (which is my native resolution) After
reinstalling both OS in UEFI mode grub resolution became wrong (which I assume
is 640x480) BUT Splash screen resolution on boot and shutdown is CORRECT
(1366x768). Only grub boot menu is incorrect.

What I tried:
editing sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
and uncommenting GRUB_GFXMODE + setting resolution 1366x768 DIDN'T WORK

Tried to edit line above + sudo gedit /etc/grub.d/00_header where I add line
set gfxpayload=keep under line set gfxmode=${GRUB_GFXMODE} DIDN'T WORK.

So I consider that to be a bug cause again when I had both systems
installed in BIOS mode my resolution was correct in grub menu.

I am running ASUS laptop K53SV
intel HD 3000 + Nvidia Optimus GeForce GT (bumblebee installed)
+ xorg edgers ppa (so all drivers are up-to date)
