[Bug 2065651] [NEW] Packages libnats3.7t64 and libnats-dev do not install static library

2024-05-13 Thread Nikolay Nikolov
Public bug reported:

libnats-dev installs /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/cnats/cnats-config.cmake
When used in find_package(), the script could not find static nats library.

CMake output:
CMake Error at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/cnats/cnats-config.cmake:103
(message):
  The imported target "cnats::nats_static" references the file

 "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnats_static.a"

  but this file does not exist. Possible reasons include:

  * The file was deleted, renamed, or moved to another location.

  * An install or uninstall procedure did not complete successfully.

  * The installation package was faulty and contained

 "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/cnats/cnats-config.cmake"

  but not all the files it references.

[Bug 1921884] [NEW] OVS gets stuck: "Port binding failed" trying to (re-)start VMs

2021-03-30 Thread Nikolay Vinogradov
Public bug reported:

Running the Bionic/Ussuri OpenStack cloud with Neutron/ML-2 OVS virtual
networking and hardware offload enabled on the NIC level [1]. The cloud
has 6 nodes with 2 host aggregates, 3 nodes each. The cloud has 2 vlan
physnets, each spanning the corresponding host aggregate; and 1 flat
physnet spanning all 6 nodes.

I'm deploying charmed Kubernetes to one of the host aggregate using VLAN
provider network.

Despite it was working initially, after some time it is not possible
schedule a VM to this host aggregate with "Port binding failed" error
due to a timeout. The existing VMs typically continue to work and be
reachable over the network as expected. The other symptom is that OVS
commands like 'ovs-appctl' hang. The workaround to this problem is to
restart OVS, but this helps only temporarily.

Tried with both port security turned on and off on the network level.

guide/latest/app-hardware-offload.html

[Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2021-02-23 Thread Nikolay Shustov
Just upgraded to 20.10, same story. Works in discreet graphics mode but
is having hiccups - sometimes touchpad is not recognized, e.g. sometimes
on non-clean reboot, sometimes when reboot with external monitor
attached. Intermittent, clean reboot without attached peripherals seems
to always help.

Thanks for the reply, I opened the following upstream issue:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/635

Though I'm not sure how effective that is going to be as ubuntu is not
using the latest upstream NM so they just tell me "please update to
latest version and report back"...

[Bug 1912162] Re: NetworkManager managed wifi can't connect

2021-01-18 Thread Nikolay Borisov
Just to make it explicitly clear - I think there are 2 bugs involved - 1
is related to driver/firmware on older 5.4 kernel since on that version
I couldn't get the adapter to connect even with the
/etc/network/interfaces based configuration, but on kernel 5.10 it
works. This bug deals only with not being able to connect via
NetworkManager to my wifi even on 5.10. Once this is resolved I can go
back and try to do bisection of the kernel which patch enables the
/etc/networking/interfaces configuration to work.

[Bug 1912162] [NEW] NetworkManager managed wifi can't connect

2021-01-18 Thread Nikolay Borisov
Public bug reported:

My computer has an built-in intel ax200 adapter (the motherboard is
asock taichi x570). With the latest stable 5.4 kernel on Ubuntu Focal
20.04 I cannot get the card to connect to my home wifi (2.4ghz). The
errors I get are :

iwlwifi :05:00.0: No beacon heard and the time event is over already...
wlp5s0: Connection to AP 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce lost
wlp5s0: send auth to 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce (try 2/3)

Initially I thought this could be due to a problem with the iwlwifi
driver and the firmware used. I upgraded to a custom-build (using
ubuntu's configuration) 5.10 kernel And now the errors I was getting
were:

[нд яну 17 22:01:33 2021] iwlwifi :05:00.0: No beacon heard and the session
protection is over already...
[нд яну 17 22:01:33 2021] wlp5s0: Connection to AP 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce lost

[нд яну 17 22:01:36 2021] iwlwifi :05:00.0: No beacon heard and the session
protection is over already...
[нд яну 17 22:01:36 2021] wlp5s0: Connection to AP 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce lost
[нд яну 17 22:01:36 2021] wlp5s0: send auth to 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce (try 2/3)

[нд яну 17 22:01:37 2021] wlp5s0: send auth to 30:b5:c2:75:a4:ce (try 3/3)

The change of message is because newer versions of the driver/firmware have
moved part of the processing in firmware. At this point I was willing to accept
this is an issue with the kernel. However, I added the following configuration
to /etc/network/interfaces:

allow-hotplug wlp5s0
iface wlp5s0 inet dhcp
  wpa-ssid HOME

  wpa-psk

  wpa-debug-level 2

And what do you know - I was able to connect to my home wifi with no problems.
I'm attaching the output of wpa_supplicant run with -dd from both the
/etc/network/interfaces-based configuration (wpa_supplicant_working) and from
the NetworkManager managed one ( I have edited
/lib/systemd/system/wpa_supplicant.service to include -f
/var/log/wpa_supplicant -dd) options. I wasn't able to figure any glaring
differences between the flows of the two.

[Bug 1874244] [NEW] lshw top-level element is a list, not a dictionary since Eoan

2020-04-22 Thread Nikolay Vinogradov
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, so I'm asking for an
opinion.

As far as I see lshw behaviour has changed since eoan. I suppose it was
introduced by that commit:
https://github.com/lyonel/lshw/commit/135a853c. In bionic it returns
JSON dict, now in Eoan/Focal it returns list:

root@bursting-satyr:~# lshw -json -quiet | head #Bionic
{
  "id" : "bursting-satyr",
  "class" : "system",
  "claimed" : true,
  "description" : "Computer",
  "width" : 64,
  "capabilities" : {
"smp" : "Symmetric Multi-Processing",
"vsyscall32" : "32-bit processes"
  },

root@glad-sawfly:~# lshw -json -quiet | head #Eoan, Focal
[
{
  "id" : "glad-sawfly",
  "class" : "system",
  "claimed" : true,
  "description" : "Computer",
  "width" : 64,
  "capabilities" : {
"smp" : "Symmetric Multi-Processing",
"vsyscall32" : "32-bit processes
So my question is: is it an unintended side-effect of the fix or long-term
format change?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1817358] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 netboot installation failed during loading of installer component libc6-udeb

2020-03-15 Thread Nikolay Mihaylov
@strowi - I am installing on bare metal Ryzen ThreadRipper 1920X. I was
already running 20.04 on the same machine for quite some time but
yesterday I hit a problem with updates whereby libcrypt1 has some
unsatisfyable dependencies so I decied to install from scratch. Oops! I
then tried it in VirtualBox but the problem is the same so I think it's
not architecture dependent. I think some packages in the repository are
screwed up.

I also tried installing from the daily server ISO from March 14th and
there the situations is even wonkier - it cannot install the linux-image
package from the ISO because of checksum mismatch. Now hold you socks -
the SHA-512 sum is the same but the SHA-256 and MD5 sums are different.
What the actual F!

A possible workaround is to just stop using multiple workspaces (put
everything on the default one) and don't switch between them.

believe the steps to reproduce are pretty clear.

Thanks for your support Daniel - I'll stick to the workaround (even
though it's pretty disappointing).

[Bug 1819696] [NEW] Cinnamon highly loads my CPU after installing this driver

After installing nvidia driver for my graphic card, cinnamon strongly
loads my cpu. It loads much more while playing videos, opening windows

2019-03-05 Thread Nikolay Kirilov
Hi, Dan,
thanks for your suggestions.
Unfortunately step 1 and 2 failed.
Then I applied the workaround from step 3, restarted, crashed the UI and
retried 1 and 2
Looks there is no difference - no crash files and nothing for my user in
errors.ubuntu.com/user

If you have any other suggestions let me know.

Thanks for your support.

[Bug 1817682] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 interface freeze - during video call or screen sharing (using Slack or Zoom)

2019-02-26 Thread Nikolay Kirilov
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) GNOME 3.28.2 .15.0-45-generic
Since some updates in the last 2 weeks the interface started to freeze for
15-20 seconds and then reloads (like a crash of the UI, then it got killed by
the OS, and then restarted).

The computer is unusable for 15-20 seconds then it works as nothing
happened (I got proper sound and I believe everything is working - I
just don't see it and I can not interact).

I updated again and again (with the hope it's something terrible that
affected a lot of users and is already fixed, but looks it's not).

I started observing the problem more closely:
The logs app that comes with Ubuntu shows this error (under System section) at
similar times the interface crashes:

gnome-shell[22505]: segfault at 28 ip 7f9a80434fe0 sp
7ffd7fb8b058 error 4 in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0[7f9a803b1000+157000]

gnome-shell[3366]: segfault at 28 ip 7ffa74598fe0 sp
7ffc912713c8 error 4 in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0[7ffa74515000+157000]

The problem appears in most cases when I'm on a video call using Slack or Zoom,
so probably be related to that (not sure is it limited to that actually - may
be it happened even when I was not on a call).
I heavily use multiple desktops and switch between them very often (on a single
TFT display).

I'll be glad if anyone has an idea how to resolve this or report it
(without reinstalling, which actually may be faster and easier).

Thanks
NK

[Bug 1797000] [NEW] grpc library crashes due to -Wl, -Bsymbolic-functions

2018-10-09 Thread Nikolay Edigaryev
Public bug reported:

gRPC 1.3.2 (bionic) has two shared objects: libgrpc.so.3.0.0 and
libgrpc++.so.1.3.2, where the latter depends on the former, and both
contain many overlapping functions which results in crashes and other
unexpected behavior.

The simplest way to reproduce the crash is to build and run official
gRPC C++ example: https://grpc.io/docs/quickstart/cpp.html#build-the-
example

One particular example that triggers a crash would be
grpc_slice_intern() function that uses initialized global variable
g_shards in libgrpc's BSS section in the first invocation and
uninitialized (zeroed) g_shards variable in libgrpc++'s BSS section in
the second. This is due to "-Bsymbolic-functions" essentially creating
two "worlds" by preventing the code that calls these functions from
consulting the PLT and choosing only one "implementation".

This linkage issue was fixed in the newer gRPC versions. Compare these
two, for example:

* 1.3.x:
https://github.com/grpc/grpc/blob/70ae8440a2441e8f3e95447a5d645e05bde35921/CMakeLists.txt#L2185-L2356
* 1.15.x:
https://github.com/grpc/grpc/blob/1a60e6971f428323245a930031ad267bb3142ba4/CMakeLists.txt#L2744-L2787

I guess the likely fix would be to bump gRPC version or define
DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP variable as explained here: http://www.osdir.com
/ubuntu-developers/msg05619.html

1. Disabling the Gnome Shell extensions all together didn't resolve the issue
3. Xorg sessions also are not responsive

I'm now testing cinnamon and so far the system is behaving stable.

[Bug 1787362] Re: gnome-shell UI unresponsive

2018-08-30 Thread Nikolay Petrov
I experience very similar situation.

1. I have only one active Gnome Shell extension: "Disable Gestures" which gives
me a desirable feature - to disable all multi-finger touch screen gestures.
I just disabled it to see if that will resolve the issue.

2. Indeed, I found that sometimes clicking on app windows is affected,
but the shell panel - not.

3. I have not tried Xorg sessions while this occurs. I will on next
occasion.

[Bug 1787801] Re: openvpn does not work with ecryptfs setup

2018-08-19 Thread Nikolay Borisov
Ok, thanks for the tip I didn't know that. If this is then coming from
upstream I guess a bug report is warranted there as well.

[Bug 1787801] [NEW] openvpn does not work with ecryptfs setup

2018-08-19 Thread Nikolay Borisov
Public bug reported:

I have an ecryptfs in which my decrypted mount point is
/home/$user/Private . Additionally my openvpn setup is such that under
/etc/openvpn I have symlinks to the actual files which are located in
/home/$user/Private/openvpn. When I try to start openvpn (bear in mind
that this setup worked on 16.04, I upgraded the machine) I get an error
:

fisk-mobile ovpn-CONF-FILE[25710]: Options error: In [CMD-LINE]:1: Error
opening configuration file: /etc/openvpn/CONF-FILE.conf

Needless to say that manually running openvpn --config /etc/openvpn
/CONF-FILE.conf (which is a symlink ) worked flawlessly.

After a bit of headbanging it turned out the issue is caused by the
ProtectHome directive of the openvpn service file under:
/lib/systemd/system/openvpn@.service - the same directive also applies
to openvpn-client@.service service as well. Changing the value from
'true' to 'read-only' resolved the issue.

In my opinion having the config files on an encrypted partition under
/home/$USER is not that uncommon and so the unit file should be changed
to at least allow RO permissions. Additionally, this setup worked on
ubuntu 16.04 and I just performed an upgrade which broke the existing
setup so I consider this a regression as well.

[Bug 1555562] Re: lastpass-cli changed bundled CA certificates

2018-06-13 Thread Nikolay Turpitko via ubuntu-bugs
Hi Robie and others,

Sorry guys, since I reported this bug 2 years ago, I gradually switched
to Debian system and pass/gopass password manager (even deleted lastpass
account). So, currently I don't use neither Ubuntu nor lastpass daily
(not because they are any bad, but due personal preferences). For
testing new package I'll need couple hours of spare time, which I don't
have right now. So, don't wait me, someone else please take an action.

[Bug 1773146] [NEW] xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is not installed by default

2018-05-24 Thread Nikolay Pliashechnikov
Public bug reported:

I'm doing a clean install of KUbuntu 18.04, on a Dell Precision M6800 machine.
During installation, "tap-to-click" action on the touchpad did not work. It
also did not work in the KDE environment after the installation.
Further search showed that "xserver-xorg-input-synaptics" package is not
installed, and installing it has fixed my issue.

It would be nice to have this enabled by default in the installer as
well as in the installed system.

[Bug 1773142] [NEW] Crash when trying to format existing ext4 partition

2018-05-24 Thread Nikolay Pliashechnikov
Public bug reported:

I installed Kubuntu 18.04 to a new SSD. Then, after effectively destroying it,
I decided to make a clean reinstall, so I booted from a LiveUSB, connected to
the network and launched the installer.
I decided not to repartition the SSD, but rather to delete and re-create
existing ext4 partition. After recreating it, I tried to click on "Format"
checkbox and installer immediately crashed with the following stack trace:

[Bug 1758389] Re: List of partitions for overlayroot

2018-03-26 Thread Nikolay Turpitko via ubuntu-bugs
Please disregard last paragraph in my comment #1. I've found that I was
not able to boot with recurse=1 not due of read-only /var, but due of
script's attempt to remount absent cdrom for which I have an entry in my
/etc/fstab (added by system installer).

Nevertheless, I found new configuration useful to exclude some filesystems from
recurse. For example, to properly boot with (separate) read-only /,/boot,/var
and read-write /home I use string like below in my /etc/overlayroot.local.conf:
overlayroot="tmpfs:swap=1,debug=1,driver=overlay,recurse=not:cdrom|home".

I checked - this syntax also works for kernel command line, I only had
to put recurse option in single quotes like: "...
overlayroot=tmpfs:swap=1,recurse='not:cdrom|home'".

[Bug 1758389] Re: List of partitions for overlayroot

2018-03-24 Thread Nikolay Turpitko via ubuntu-bugs
I attached a patch, illustrating changes I propose.
I amended "recurse" option so that it take a regexp of filesystem names to work
on, besides old values "0" and "1". That is, old values keep their meaning, but
if recurese is set to something like "boot|backup" it will work only on those
filesystems.

I tested with option
`overlayroot="tmpfs:swap=1,recurse=boot|backup,driver=overlay"`. It
works for me, but I don't know other use cases, for which people use
this package and cannot properly test them, obviously. Also, reusing
"recurse" option though simple, but may be questionable by someone. So,
see the patch as an illustration of idea, not as a completed solution.

Also, I found that "overlayroot-chroot" did not mount separate /var
partition and without it apt/dpkg failed to properly remove packages. I
added "var" into list of filesystems which "overlayroot-chroot" binds
before executing chroot. This is also may be not inline with original
design, but I just don't know how to properly deal with it.

With these modifications package works for me, but still is not quite
perfect solution for my goal. Which is to protect /, /boot and /backup
partitions of my laptop from incidental modifications, but leave /home,
/var, /swap and /tmp partitions in rw mode. I do not want to mount all
partitions as a single /, because I have SDD+HDD and partitions should
be on different drives (for example, / is on SDD and /var - on HDD).
Also I do not want to mount my /home as ro. And in my tests I even was
not able to boot with read-only /var. With my modifications and settings
I can boot and work with system almost normally, except that incidental
attempt to remove package without "overlay-chroot" can modify dpkg's
database (which is on rw /var), though / and /boot are protected and
restored after reboot alright. Alas, it leaves system in a half-damaged
state. I'd appreciate some idea to prevent this. But, probably, just an
alias will do.

[Bug 1758389] [NEW] List of partitions for overlayroot

2018-03-23 Thread Nikolay Turpitko via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

I'm experimenting with overlayroot in VirtualBox.
In my setup I have separate /boot, /var, /home and / (root) partitions.
I want /boot and / (root) partitions be protected with overlayroot=tmpfs, but
others be mounted normally as rw. There is an option 'recurse', but it allows
only to switch on/off handling of all other partitions, which is not suits my
needs.

Is it possible to add another option like
'overlayroot_partitions=boot,backup' or
'overlayroot_exclude_partitions=home,var'?

[Bug 1674509] Re: Unable to find bluetooth device on RPi3 running Ubuntu Core 16

2017-04-04 Thread Nikolay
I did the same patch - modify firmware patch and speed initialization patch...
and I got bluetooth working on RPi!
I used my own app to test it - https://github.com/Nikolay-Kha/BluetoothAudio
hcitool scan
also works fine. bluetoothctl starts, but I cannot type anything there, don't
know why.

Patch, that I did for bluez 5.37 is in the attachment, prebuilt hciattach is
also there.
I took and install firmware from here - wget
https://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/pool/main/b/bluez-firmware/^Cuez-firmware_1.2-3+rpi1_all.deb

to start bluetooth I used this commands(script in the attachment also):
sudo ~/bluez/tools/hciattach /dev/ttyAMA0 bcm43xx 921600 noflow -
sudo ~/bluez/tools/hciconfig hci0 up

But, there is always BUT... I experience very weak signal. My bluetooth
headset which works normally with 5 meter distance with my phone,
doesn't even connect to board with 1 meter. It works only when I put
headset right on board. Probably it's just a hardware issue of my RPi
board instance... or some system setting, I don't know.

2017-01-19 Thread Nikolay Fedotov
Hi Reedip!

I cannot reproduce it. Tried fwaas_v1.
I guess a lot changes happened since 2015-04-28 and the bug is outdated .

Thanks

[Bug 1641929] [NEW] Many HTTPS sites not working in chroium NET::ERR_CERTIFICATE_TRANSPARENCY_REQUIRED

2016-11-15 Thread Nikolay Morozov
Public bug reported:

Geting the error like this :

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from mail.ru (for example,
passwords, messages, or credit cards).
NET::ERR_CERTIFICATE_TRANSPARENCY_REQUIRED
  Automatically report details of possible security incidents to Google.
Privacy policy
ReloadHIDE ADVANCED
mail.ru normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chromium
tried to connect to mail.ru this time, the website sent back unusual and
incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to
be mail.ru, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your
information is still secure because Chromium stopped the connection before any
data was exchanged.

You cannot visit mail.ru right now because the website uses HSTS.
Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will
probably work later.

[Bug 1283938] Re: [Samsung NP535U4X-S01TH] Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2016-08-25 Thread Nikolay
Hi! I have Dell Inspiron 7559 i7 NVIDIA 960M, Ubuntu 14.04.4 and the
same problem. My workaround is to switch off bluetooth. Then after first
successful suspend-wake up switching it on doesn't break thinks and the
system let you suspend normally as much as you want. Hope it will help
some part of the affected users to live with it.

[Bug 1605843] Re: Kernel crashes from time to time when using ftrace

2016-08-04 Thread Nikolay Borisov
Ping on the issue. I now also managed to trigger it while setting a very
simple systemtap probe:

probe kernel.function("generic_fillattr") {
printf("Uid in inode: %u gid: %u\n", $inode->i_uid->val,
$inode->i_gid->val);
}

Running this resulted in:

Is there a way to obtain a vmlinux image for the upstream kernel as

compare the disassemblies of the ftrace_stub ?

[Bug 1605843] Re: Kernel crashes from time to time when using ftrace

2016-07-25 Thread Nikolay Borisov
I tried with the upstream kernel :
nborisov@fisk:~$ uname -a
Linux fisk 4.7.0-040700-generic #201607241632 SMP Sun Jul 24 20:34:30 UTC 2016
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

In the meantime I managed to find a sequence which can trigger this 100%
of the time on the ubuntu kernel. The following commands have to be one
after the other:

sudo trace-cmd record -p function_graph -l vfs_read -F ls
sudo trace-cmd record -p function -l vfs_read -F ls

[Bug 1605843] Re: Kernel crashes from time to time when using ftrace

2016-07-23 Thread Nikolay Borisov
So here is a disassembly of the ftrace functions:

0x8183026b :mov$0x0,%rcx
0x81830272 :   callq  0x81156d80

0x81830277 : mov0x40(%rsp),%r9
0x8183027c :mov0x48(%rsp),%r8
0x81830281 :mov0x70(%rsp),%rdi
0x81830286 :mov0x68(%rsp),%rsi
0x8183028b :mov0x60(%rsp),%rdx
0x81830290 :mov0x58(%rsp),%rcx
0x81830295 :mov0x50(%rsp),%rax
0x8183029a :mov0x20(%rsp),%rbp
0x8183029f :add$0xd0,%rsp
0x818302a6 : jmpq   0x818302a8

And here is disassembly of ftrace_stub, which clearly looks broken:
crash> dis ftrace_stub 10
0x818302a8 :   (bad)
0x818302a9 : (bad)
0x818302aa : incl   0x0(%rax)
0x818302b0 :pushfq
0x818302b1 :  push   %rbp
0x818302b2 :  pushq  0x18(%rsp)
0x818302b6 :  push   %rbp
0x818302b7 :  mov%rsp,%rbp
0x818302ba : pushq  0x20(%rsp)
0x818302be : push   %rbp

crash> rd 0x818302a8
818302a8:  80ff

So I guess the reason is that ftrace_stub somehow gets corrupted.

[Bug 1569674] Re: [Kubuntu] Fail to connect to wifi after a recent update

2016-05-17 Thread Nikolay Pliashechnikov
In kubuntu, proposed libkf5networkmanagerqt6 package breaks network-manager
plasma applet.
The problematic package name is "plasma-nm".

Problem is, NetworkManager has dropped the WiMax support recently, but
plasma-nm still thinks it should be here.
This package should be also rebuilt from upstream (as archlinux guys did, they
also got hit by this issue)

[Bug 1547374] Re: "Monospace Regular 8" became wider

2016-05-04 Thread Nikolay Shopik
So I localized problem with font hinting. I've been always using font
hinting slight, but with 16.04 release I had to disable font hinting to
get back original look of my Dejavu Sans Mono book font as it was in
15.10.

Maybe there is issue in font hinting in previous releases, where it
actually doesn't work while enabled.

[Bug 1555562] Re: lastpass-cli changed bundled CA certificates

2016-05-02 Thread Nikolay Turpitko
Sorry, I've forgot about this one.
I built package from github sources, it works well. So, I suppose it just
enough to rebuild it for the repository.
