[Bug 1295323] Re: Can't stop/remove baloo
According to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1391494 there are two ways of disabling baloo: 1) Add your home folder to the list of not indexed folders in the Desktop Search KCM (System Settings - Desktop Search) 2) $ cp /usr/share/autostart/baloo_file.desktop ~/.kde/share/autostart/ $ echo Hidden=True ~/.kde/share/autostart/baloo_file.desktop I did not like the first option because the addition of paths is somewhat broken. The second seems to work better - after restart I do not see baloo among running processes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-baseapps in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295323 Title: Can't stop/remove baloo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-baseapps/+bug/1295323/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1071209] [NEW] memtest86 test #7 fails (random pattern error)
Public bug reported: Trying to check the memory at newly bought notebook I found a bug in the memtest86+ version 4.20 in ubuntu 12.10, in ubuntu 12.04 it is ok. The bug is reported at least in Fedora and Opensuse. It is assumed that the bug is caused by the gcc-4.7. It is easily reproducible - select the test #7 in memtest or just wait till it - starting from the 129Mb it will report a lot of errors. I have checked it on three different systems , two of them I use on a daily basis and would note if RAM is really bad. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=805813 http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2012-09/msg04386.html ** Affects: memtest86+ (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071209 Title: memtest86 test #7 fails (random pattern error) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+/+bug/1071209/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still the issue with 12.04 :( Because of this bug Zotero/Firefox opens pdf attachements in gimp. This bug is likely to be not fixed anytime soon. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14216 Comment #43 From Zhang Rui 2010-09-27 01:18:54 we have several bug reports that ACPI video driver controls the backlight correctly, but the backlight fails to change after evaluating the AML code. I suggest a cron job for opening this bug over and over again for every ubuntu release (including betas and rc's). :) That was a joke and here is soultion, that helped me numerous times during installation of at least 3 different Ubuntu releases (8.10, 9.04 hits this bug even in a release, 9.10) Make a change to cdrom detection script, which is (i believe) /var/lib/dpkg/info/cdrom-detect.postinst there is a line in it like if db_get cdrom-detect/try-usb [ $RET = true ]; then in this line [ $RET = true ] should be removed and then everything goes OK. Actually upon loading alternate install cd one of my first actions are to switch to another console, edit the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/cdrom-detect.postinst and then proceed as usual. This always worked. Also, as mentioned in http://www.open-mpi.org/community/lists/users/2009/02/8135.php bug may be resolved compiling OpenMPI 1.3 using --enable-shared --enable-static -- importing petsc4py.PETSc results in segfault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232036 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 367377] Re: High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11
I am also confident that bug had gone after upgrading to kernel 2.6.30 and using intel video drivers (from x-swat ppa) that default to older acceleration architecture (EXA). -- High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 367377] Re: High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11
I also experience the same bug on notebook with i945 chipset with Ubuntu Jaunty. Symptoms are the same - at some point system becomes irresponsive, disk activity is such high that the only option is to power-off the notebook. As I was experiencing it rather frequently I had open consoles with dstat, htop and atop running. dstat show that activity is completely read, not write. htop shows load average near to 25/18/8 with lot of processed in D state (waiting for IO, AFAIK). Memory is about 500 Mb consumed (+1Gb cache) of 1.5 Gb total. Atop show me that there were *several* programs fighting to read the disk - the most prominent was okular (actually right in this case bug was triggered by fast listing the 400 page 2Mb pdf), but firefox, thunderbird and X were also having a high read activity! After killing okular (took a minute to quit from htop to bash) normal desktop responsivenes returned. But bug is *not* in okular - different times different programs trigger this behaviour. My systems is jaunty, i386 arch. The behaviour is the same with kde4.2.2 and kde4.2.3 (installed from kubuntu-experimental ppa). I upgraded the xserver-xorg-video-intel from xorg-edgers ppa - still the same. And I did not not touch the xorg - right now it is UXA, see the attached xorg.log. I don't know the default for pure jaunty. PS now i know for sure - it is not a beagle to blame, as i expected ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27007852/Xorg.0.log -- High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 360319] Re: [GM45] (Needs -intel 2.7.0) memory leak causes system to run out of memory (UXA/EXA)
I still experience this bug with intel drivers 2.7.99.1-1, KDE4.2.2(4.2.3), installed from ppa's. There is another bug-report on the same problem. I wrote details there. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/367377 -- [GM45] (Needs -intel 2.7.0) memory leak causes system to run out of memory (UXA/EXA) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/360319 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 347458] Re: lpia kernel used on alternate CD doesn't load cd-rom drivers
The same bug in the jaunty kubuntu alternate install cd, i386 arch, booting Asus EEE PC 901. This bug is really going to be gold - I stepped it also in the intrepid. Is it ever going to be fixed ??? The following does not help: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick Mounting the USB stick as /cdrom This step is only needed for the Alternate install CD and Ubuntu 6.10 or older. Switch to the second virtual console during the first couple of dialogs (when asked about your preferred language for the installation etc.) by pressing the ALT-F2. Do the following: *mkdir /cdrom /dev/cdroms *cd /dev/cdroms *ln -s ../sda1 cdrom0 (where sda1 is your USB drive) *mount -t vfat /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /cdrom -- lpia kernel used on alternate CD doesn't load cd-rom drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347458 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 361494] [NEW] Kde menu does not go away when it should
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace This is also reported in Linux Mint. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=161t=24079 It's actually staying open until you click again on the start button or launch something. Clicking the desk top does nothing. I would think it would go away if I click on another window. It also stays on top at all times, although there is probably a setting that will let other windows cover it if you maximize them. This bug is very annoying and appeared lately on 2 of my desktops with up-to-date Jaunty, most probably after KDE upgrade to 4.2.2. Bug is completely reproducible. Click on kde menu icon on the taskbar then click anywhere on the destop - menu should go off, but it stays on the desktop and does not allow to do anything on the desktop, until you click once more on the kde menu icon. If you select the next tab in kickof meny ('applications', 'computer', 'quit', 'last documents') then menu goes off correctly. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kde menu does not go away when it should https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361494 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also hit this bug. I am compiling the package, depending on openmpi (in my ppa). It was a big surprise to see build failed because package was perfectly buildable package in pbuilder on my desktop.
