[Bug 475066] Re: [karmic] fan is not working and increase the temperature - Toshiba U505 S2930
same thing with satellite u500...fan starts only at 98°C for a few moments in order to lower the temperature to 96°C...which is the trip point I see in /proc/acpi/thermal/TZ0/trip_points. I have tried to set the trip point with the usual echo -n "a:b:c:d" > /proc/acpi/thermal/TZ0/trip_points , but I get I/O error... Any Ideas??? -- [karmic] fan is not working and increase the temperature - Toshiba U505 S2930 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Everything is ok also with ati radeon 9500 pro. One little problem: the intial login screen has a resolution of 1600x1200 which is out of the range of my lcd screen. [Bug 279102] Re: Unreliable network connection with B44 driver
I also suffer from this bug. I have never had any problems with 8.04LTS. With version 8.10 (full patched) I get connected and disconnected only when I receive files using samba (over LAN). I never get disconnected when receiving (large) file from the internet. Only samba makes my nic power on and off all the time. I don't even have compiz installed so I guess it has nothing to to with the b44 driver problem... Mark Baas wrote: > The same fix is the pm-utils fix (hardy), then yes you can use the same > files. Begging your pardon I didn't not understand. On ubuntu I use this fix: #!/bin/bash if on_ac_power; then # on AC so don't do any head parking hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda # you might need 255 or a different value else # either on battery or power status could not be determined # so quickly park the head to protect the disk hdparm -B 128 /dev/sda fi That pm-utils you mentioned solves the problem better than this fix? Re: [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
I have bought a new laptop and I have installed both ubuntu and fedora core 9. On ubuntu I immediately installed the fix ( the one starting by "if on power; then..") but on fedora I did not. I noticed a lots of «clicks» using fedora and the number of head parkings increased. Is Fedora Core affected by the same ubuntu bug? I fear so. If so could you tell me if I can use the same fix? [Bug 17216] Re: Hard drive spindown should be configurable
Hello everybody I used the 99-hdd-spin-fix.sh method to save my hard drive which had reached 12838 cycles. I also copied 99-hdd-spin-fix.sh into battery.d, added the "hdparm -B 255 /dev/hda" into /etc/rc.local and commented the evil line « $HDPARM -B 1 /dev/$drive 2>/dev/null» in /etc/acpi/power.sh. Is that ok? My concerns are these: · are there any danger with the power management turned off (hdparm -B 255) for my hard drive? · how is it possible that such serious bug is still unsolved. · I came to know this bug just by chance...imho there is no enough information about that...I mean in the main pages of ubuntu site.
