Re: [Bug 835972] Re: after resume the Disconnected - you are now offline notification doesn't disappear

2012-01-05 Thread Norman Roscher
Hi!

I can confirm the existence of this bug in the Ubuntu 11.10 based
distribution Mint 12 (Lisa) under Gnome 3.2 (with the Mint Gnome Shell
Extensions), even with all the latest updates installed.

I read something about a patch some time ago, there it was about Ubuntu
11.04 I think.
Does someone know where to find this?

2012/1/6 Jeroen Meijer 835...@bugs.launchpad.net

At the moment I am having the same problem running Gnome 3 on ubuntu
 11.10.

Will there be a patch released?

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xfce4-notifyd” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
  Observed behaviour:
When I resume from standby, the Disconnected - you are now offline
notification (which probably appeared when standby was started) stays on
the screen and doesn't go away until I close it manually.
Network (LAN - eth0) works, so in fact I'm online and the notification is
 false.
Notifications are set to disappear after 4 seconds, which they do, except
 this naughty one.

  Expected behaviour:
The Disconnected - you are now offline notification should not appear
or disappear after the selected amount of time.
The best thing would be to display a Connected - you are now online
 notification.

  used version:
  0.2.1-1 on Xubuntu Natty
  (all updates up to date)

[Bug 886951] [NEW] Libre Office Writer: Horizontal scrollbar broken

2011-11-06 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I use Kubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) on an Acer TravelMate 5740G Notebook.

I created an odt-document with several images, some drawing and a table.
When I choose a zoom factor at which the document cannot be shown entirely on
my screen I am able to scroll vertically but not horizontally. This applies to
both the page preview / print preview and the editing mode. The horizontal
scrollbar is also displayed in a mutilated fashion (the arrows at the bar's
ends are cropped). The scrollbar is broken, horizontal scrolling does not work.

I would add a screenshot of the broken scrollbar, as well as the odt-
file which causes the bug, but unfortunately rekonq crashes every time I
try to add a file attatchment to a bug report. :-(

[Bug 886955] [NEW] Rekonq crashes when adding attatchment to bug report

2011-11-06 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I use Kubuntu 11.10 (x86_64) on an Acer TravelMate 5740G notebook.

When I report a bug by typing the ubuntu-bug [package] command in a terminal
and I try to add an attatchment to the report, rekonq will crash. This applies
to all kinds of attatchments / file types. It happens every time, hence the bug
is reproduceable.
The file open dialog will appear, I can choose the file to attatch and click
the upload button. I will get back to my bug report and the file path will
appear in the attatchment area, but one or two seconds later rekonq crashes
without an error mesasage. The file upload does not appear to start at all.

The terminal displays the following, immediately as rekonq is started:

norman@nr-book:~$ ubuntu-bug libreoffice-writer
rekonq(10593)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction show_history_panel with
KXMLGUIFactory!

The program 'rekonq' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Unfortunately I don't know much about programming, not to speak of
debugging, so I cannot follow the instructions given there. :-]

[Bug 883522] [NEW] Gnome applications fail to launch under Kubuntu 11.10. FGRLX related problems?

2011-10-29 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu 11.10 x86_64 (German Localization) on an Acer TravelMate
5740G notebook.
When I try to launch the gnome alsa mixer (in lack of a good corresponding KDE
application as it seems) it will not start. It appears in the task bar for a
few seconds, but apart from that nothing happens. Then the program is
terminated again without an error message.
I have had the same problem in Xubuntu 11.10, so it doesnt' seem to be a KDE
specific problem.

However, I have had similar problems with other Gnome / GTK programs
failing to launch. Both with Kubuntu and Xubuntu. I believe the errors
are related to the FGLRX driver. When I installed it on the regular
Ubuntu the Unity interface did not work anymore and the system became
unusable. The same happened on Fedora 15 with Gnome 3, which I had
installed before I switched to Ubuntu. As soon as I installed FGLRX the
GUI became destroyed. Apparently there seem to be compatibility issues
between FGLRX and Gnome 3 / GTK3 when you have a Mobility Radeon HD 5650
graphics card.

The proprietary drivers tool offers me an update for fglrx (See screenshot! The
nachträgliche Aktualisierung in brackets means supplementary update. Note
the driver is misspelled FGRLX for the update!) but fails to install it. When
I try the packages are downloaded but the installation fails with a general
error message and fglrx is rendered unfunctional then. It needs to be
reinstalled (the regular fgrlx package you can see on the screenshot) to work
again.
When I tried to install the driver with the fgrlx-installer directly downloaded
from AMD the graphics system did not start anymore at all. So probably the
error is in the fgrlx installer.

I try to do it.

[Bug 883527] [NEW] rekonq crashes when trying to attach screenshot to bug report

2011-10-29 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I have tried to add screen shots to two bug reports, each time in the
PNG image format. But every time I did so (the error was reproduceable)
the application crashed about two seconds after I selected the image in
the file open dialog for attatchments to the report.

[Bug 882150] [NEW] Ubuquity freezes when replacing Xubuntu 11.10 with Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-26 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I was trying to replace my broken Xubuntu 11.10 installation by a regular
Ubuntu 11.10 by using the update option in the installer. I started it from the
Ubuntu live image, being installed on a USB stick.
When I do so, ubiquity freezes at the point Kollidierende Systemdateien werden

[Bug 879951] Re: [Xubuntu 11.10] Touchpad breaks after wake-up from hibernation

2011-10-23 Thread Norman Roscher
Unfortunately I haven't managed to reproduce the bug so far. The system behaves
somewhat unpredictable when it is woken up. It may work fine, the next time it
may do the thing with the black screen and not responding. Last time it was the
failure of the touchpad.
By the way, what I forgot to mention: It wasn't only the touchpad, but the
sound didn't work anymore either.
The touchpad was plainly disactivated and could be brought back with the
notebook's touchpad switch. Apparently the system forgot to reactivate it on
wake-up. The sound was a bit strange: I could turn up the volume, and according
to the OSD the sound was both activated and cranked up loud. But in the tray on
the top right there was a mute symbol (a crossed out speaker), which I had to
disactivate to bring back the sound.

[Bug 879951] [NEW] [Xubuntu 11.10] Touchpad breaks after wake-up from hibernation

2011-10-22 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Xubuntu 11.10
Architecture: x86_64
System: Acer TravelMate 5740G

I've had a problem after I woke up my notebook from hibernation (reopening the
screen flap). I could log in back into XFCE and was asked by a dialog window to
enter my password again to disactivate the screensaver. I actually came to the
desktop then, and the system works as usual (I've had problems in the past with
the screen turning black at this point and the entire system not responding
anymore. I have filed a bug report on this some time ago), but my touchpad is
not responding anymore. I have now plugged in an external mouse which works
fine, but the touchpad is still disfunctional.
Update: After a reboot my touchpad now works again. It definitely seems to be a
bug related to the wake-up process.

[Bug 879985] [NEW] [Xubuntu 11.10] [LibreOffice] Automatic bold formatting bug

2011-10-22 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

I typed my entire adress into one line, consisting of my name, my postal
address, my eMail adress and my phone number. The first to words in the line,
my name, I formatted to be printed bold. The rest was to be printed in regular
letters. However, my eMail adress was automatically recognised and transformed
into a hyperlink, being dislayed in blue and underlined.
So i right-clicked on my email address and selected remove hyperlink. When I
did so not only the hyperlink was removed, but the entire line was formatted in
bold text. I had to remove the bold attribute manually.
The error was reproducable.

[Bug 879015] [NEW] Network disconnected notification pop-up after startup

2011-10-20 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

Release: Xubuntu 11.10
Architecture: x86_64
System: Acer TravelMate 5740G Notebook

When I boot up my notebook, right after I log into the XFCE session, I
immediately get a pop-up message box that my wireless connection was
disconnected - a second before my wireless card finishes establishing the
connection, which takes two or three seconds. I always have to conform this
message to make the useless message box dissapear, which is kinda annoying.
I am hoping for a fix, wich could work by integrating a timer, causing the
notification system to wait a few seconds before checking and posting the
wireless netwrk status, so the wlan card is given the few seconds it may need.

[Bug 875745] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.10: Black screen on wake-up

2011-10-16 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

Hi!
I am using Xubuntu 11.10 x86-64, German Localization.
When I close the screen flap of my Acer TravelMate 5740G Notebook the system
goes to sleep as it is supposed to (which didn't work under 11.04), but when I
reopen it the wake-up fails: I get the login screen and can enter my password.
But instead of coming back to the desktop then I get a black screen and the
system freezes: It doesn't respond to any type of input anymore. I have to
reboot the system after forcefully shutting it down (pressing power off for 5
seconds).
This problem is reproduceable and occurs since I upgraded to Oneiric. Under
11.04 the system failed to fall asleep at all.

[Bug 875880] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.10: FGLRX update fails

2011-10-16 Thread Norman Roscher
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I am using Xubuntu 11.10, which was upgraded from 11.04, with all the latest
updates installed. My system is an Acer TravelMate 5740G Notebook. The graphics
card for which the FGLRX driver is being used is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.
I switched from GDM to the LightDM display manager when I upgraded to Oneiric.

The tool for proprietary drivers offered me updated package for the FGLRX
driver (Which is displayed with the misspelled name FGRLX in the German
localization) for installation. FGLRX, which was listed there as a separate
item, was already installed and activated (I did this before I upgraded the
distro), while the updated package was not. So I tried to install this, but it
failed after the data download.
However, my previously installed FGLRX driver didn't work anymore afterwards. I
had to reinstall it, which worked fine.

I did the whole thing twice, the error was reproduceable.

When the installation of the updated package fails the appearing error message
window refers me to the following log file:
