[Bug 381457] Re: (Intrepid) Wifi stops working unpredictably, Intel 5300

[Bug 556935] Re: fglrx not working
I think this sounds like the same problem as I was seeing until my playing this morning. Previously my fglrxinfo would SIGSEGV like you are talking about. Along with the segfault I would get errors about config files missing. I tried the aticonfig --initial and it would also fail. The output of my fglrxinfo is: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series OpenGL version string: 3.2.9737 Compatibility Profile Context Previously the fglrxinfo was complaining that no devices exist and that the file /etc/ait/control was not found. I copied the /etc/ati/control .dpkg-bak file to /etc/ati/control but that didn't fix the whole problem. I also did an sudo aticontrol --initial. Not sure if this is the right thing but it basically put my display parameters into the /etc/X11/xorg.conf. After a reboot, my installation was running in a limited graphics mode and the last error that I had was saying that my /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default was missing. I again coppied the /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default.dpkg-bak to /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default and then everything appears to be working. The only side effect right now is that I have a AMD Testing use only graphic in the lower right corner of my screen. I would assume that will go away once the final release of Lucid is out. -- fglrx not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 542659] Re: 2 different scrollbars in the light themes
While the problem is related to "GtkRange::trough-under-steppers = 1" in the theme gtkrc, let me clarify that this is a GTK widget style property, and *not* a Murrine engine option [1]. XULRunner-based applications (such as Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.) seem to ignore some (or all?) GTK widget style properties. Another property that gets ignored is "GtkNotebook::tab-overlap". In my Dichotomy theme [2] I have set the "GtkNotebook::tap-overlap" property to -1 which should have the effect of spacing tabs 1 pixel apart. This works in all applications except those that are XULRunner-based [3]. [Bug 228302] Re: [HARDY-LUCID] No DMA nor 32bits IO support
Andy, I noticed that you re-modularized the PATA/SATA drivers in kernel 2.6.32-17.26. Unfortunately, you forgot to re-modularize the ata_generic module as well. I tried blacklisting the pata_ali driver and booting with "all_generic_ide", but no hard drives or ATAPI drives were detected, and I was booted to the initramfs shell. Jeremy, Unfortunately I can no longer do any testing due to the fact that the laptop in question became physically damaged. [Bug 228302] Re: [HARDY-LUCID] No DMA nor 32bits IO support
Igor, Let's try to get a summary of action needed. Problem: the "pata_ali" kernel driver does not support ATAPI DMA transfers properly on certain ALI chipsets (even if force-enabled via the driver option "atapi_dma=1"). The "ata_generic" kernel driver supports ATAPI DMA transfers for such chipsets and has a special kernel boot option, "all_generic_ide", which causes it to override the manufacturer-specific drivers. However, this option does not work correctly when the "ata_generic" and "pata_ali" drivers are compiled-in to the kernel, which means that the "ata_generic" driver is impossible to use. Solution: Change these kernel config parameters: CONFIG_PATA_ALI=y CONFIG_ATA_GENERIC=y To the following: CONFIG_PATA_ALI=m CONFIG_ATA_GENERIC=m Result: 1. For all other users: there will be no functional difference between the original and modified kernel configuration (as long as the logic to automatically modprobe the "ata_generic"/"pata_ali" kernel modules is properly in place) 2. For users with buggy ALI chipsets, they can now take advantage of the kernel boot options "all_generic_ide" and/or to manually blacklist the "pata_ali" driver, which will cause the ata_generic driver to be used (and as a result, ATAPI DMA will work properly). [Bug 521523] Re: severe ecryptfs corruption
I have one file which is corrupted, my VirtualBox config file. VirtualBox reports an XML error, and from looking at the file, I see it is truncated. This happened when my disk space was low. I am going to be reformatting ASAP (in the weekend, I cannot afford to lose my laptop during the week) but I will not be using ecryptfs again. It seems that when ecryptfs experiences a low disk space condition, files get truncated. So far only VirtualBox has been hit. That can be repaired reasonably easily, by deleting the config and letting VB create it again. But I worry that a more important file will be corrupted eventually, so I have backed up all important stuff on to another, non- ecryptfs HDD. The files only get corrupted if they are in use at the time of the disk space condition. Attached is the config file which was damaged, note that it is truncated. ** Attachment added: "truncated file, example of what happens on low disk space" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/40697005/Windows%20XP%20II.xml -- severe ecryptfs corruption https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups
Has there been any progress on this issue? I experience slow DNS lookup times on *all* my machines with Ubuntu (including Lucid), but not on any version of Windows. I can confirm that changing the "hosts" line in /etc/nsswitch.conf from: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 to: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns ...completely resolves the slow DNS lookup times. I assume this effectively enables IPv6 support for avahi-daemon, and taking into consideration that my router and ISP uses IPv4 addressing, I assume that this change will not break other legacy IPv4 setups either.
