[Bug 1242029] Re: openjdk-7 crashed while running vuze

2014-06-25 Thread o...@atkinsontech.com
By the way, that is for the original issue, vuze crashing. Also, I
don't know if it matters but I am currently running

Linux atkinson-phenomIIx4 3.13.11-03131103-generic #201406131635 SMP Fri
Jun 13 20:36:17 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I can go back to the standard if it matters.

[Bug 1316092] [NEW] When the launcher is hidden, tearing occurs when scrolling/switching contents inside one window

2014-05-05 Thread Oleg O Andreev
Public bug reported:

When launcher is hidden, scrolling or switching in the maximized window
tears along the vertical line, where the launcher would've ended if it
was shown (i.e. (48, 0) - (48, screen height) if the launcher is 48px
wide). The easiest way to see is opening two tabs with black and white
backgrounds correspondingly and constantly switching between them.

I am not certain, but it looks like redrawing the part under the
hidden launcher is sometimes delayed for one frame.

Neither fullscreen windows nor switching between windows exhibit the
problem.

The bug did not manifest in Ubuntu 13.10.

[Bug 1311911] [NEW] Append remote hostname to gnome-terminal title by default

2014-04-23 Thread Jorge O. Castro
Public bug reported:

The window matching in 14.04 is perfect for finding windows you think
you've lost. Sysadmins usually use a bunch of terminals, it would be
cool if Super-W then typing in a remote hostname would Just Work with
Unity's spread and searching.

To do this we need to set gnome-terminal's title when a person ssh'es to
a machine to have something like jorge@remotehost in the title. This
would allow the spread to search for those windows.

[Bug 1294005] Re: Please remove jenkins from trusty

2014-04-17 Thread Jorge O. Castro
To the charmer who is reviewing this, the install hook needs to grab
from these sources:

http://pkg.jenkins-ci.org/debian/

We'd also need a config option for the version so that a user can
specify a specific Jenkins release if they want, but should just default
to current.

[Bug 1307615] Re: update-notifier broken/missing icon in notification area

2014-04-17 Thread Steve O
Do you have a specific version you would like me to downgrade? I usually
do all of my updates from the CLI so I almost never see the notification
icons, therefore I cannot pinpoint when exactly it broke.

I can tell you that I did a fresh install of Beta2 on April 6/7
(previously I was just updating from Alpha 1) I am not sure if that
helps or not. I can also provide update logs/dates if that also helps

[Bug 1303317] [NEW] dots not lined up on lock screen

2014-04-06 Thread John O
Public bug reported:

I understand a similar bug was fixed a week or two ago involving the
login screen, whereby the dots pattern did not line up properly with
the new default wallpaper.

Now when locking the screen I have noticed that the dots pattern is in
the wrong place, if the right place is where they are on the login
screen. They also go through the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS logo in the bottom
left rather than around it, and the central dot on the screen is
slightly below the central point of the default wallpaper, as opposed to
rows above and below the centre as in the login screen.

I am running through an NVIDEA GTX 650 with screen resolution 1920x1080.
This doesn't seem to be limited to me though, as you can see the same
thing in the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpagev=ZAREcpd6_eE#t=100
by Joey Sneddon (1:40)

appropriate package; please advise if it is not!

[AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series]. after resume an external

BUT I can make the screen turn on after suspend with the next command:
 sudo pm-suspend --quirk-test --quirk-s3-bios

whoa, that worked as well for me! I'll try to dissect unless someone
else jumps to it, and then make good on my promise above :)

[Bug 1300306] [NEW] ubuntu-drivers needs a manpage

2014-03-31 Thread Jorge O. Castro
Public bug reported:

`ubuntu-drivers --help` is nice but this tool needs a real manpage as
there could be situations where the user won't have a graphical desktop

[Bug 479226] Re: Cannot authenticate using PolicyKit dialogs with domain credentials, prompts for local user

2014-03-11 Thread Steve O
This bug affects me, too (with Likewise Open 6, however). My workaround
is a two-pronged approach. Let's assume that you want the Domain Users
group to have both sudo and administrative rights on the local machine.
(Usually, it's only Domain Admins or another group, but we have a
special configuration where I am.) First, I added the Domain Users group
to the sudoers file (accessed by typing sudo visudo on an account that
already has sudoer rights, or by running visudo simply as root). I
then added the following line on the section with the header Members of
the admin group:

%domain^users ALL=(ALL) ALL

Please note that depending on your setup, you may have to add the domain
explicitly:

%DOMAIN\\domain^users ALL=(ALL) ALL

So now all people in the Domain Users group have sudo access! They can
type sudo command in any command prompt and it should work fine.
BUT, if your users use the GUI, we still have the problem that any
Policy Kit dialog boxes that pop up do not recognize this authority and
demand you log in as root or as a local administrator.

So, following David Norris' suggestion, I navigated to
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/ and added a new file called 52
-likewise-admin.conf. The 52 is just because there were already files
in there that started with 50 and 51, and I know that the
configuration files get loaded in order based on their number. So the
52 is arbitrary. The file contents are as follows:

[Configuration]
AdminIdentities=unix-group:domain^users

AS BEFORE, you may need to explicitly state your domain, as follows:

[Configuration]
AdminIdentities=unix-group:DOMAIN\\domain^users

Of course, change domain^users to domain^admins or other groups as
necessary. I hope this helps some people.

[Bug 1034002]

2014-01-22 Thread Hcb-o
This bug is really old and really annoying as it makes the laptops
unusable for suspend -- what kind of traces would be required to
understand the core of the problem, from what I can tell the display
engine is in a severely hosed state, but I lack documentation to
understand what is wrong.

Does setting out a bounty for this bug help? I'm willing to immediately
cash in at $300.

Re: [Bug 1257058] Re: low graphics mode boot error

2013-12-09 Thread Ron O
Thanks for the info- I thought the unpopulated list was a bug because
the procedure you describe is not that self evident. I have never seen
an unpopulated dropdown list that fills in after you type something into it.

Someone else classified this as medium priority, but it has a lot of
people confused and in danger of being locked out of their systems. Now
every time I do an update, I make sure there is no .failsafe file
reintroduced before I shut down and my system runs fine.

The apport-collect came back with you are not the originator of this
bug.

And I am not sure how comfortable I am at sending out a complete system
snapshot, if that is what it is. Is there a way to run this locally and
then send out the txt file?

[Bug 1058315] Re: ubuntu firefox modifications add-on makes firefox is unresponsive when accessing webserver using windows based authentication

2013-12-02 Thread Steve O
I am also seeing this behavior. It is causing significant problems for
us, unfortunately. HOWEVER, it only seems to happen on pages with
Windows authentication dialog boxes under HTTPS. This does not seem to
be a problem using insecure HTTP. (But since we have to use HTTPS for
security, that observation is moot for us.)

I have tested this on versions of Firefox ranging from 14.0.1 to 25.0.1
(and Ubuntu Firefox Modifications versions 2.1.1 to 2.7) and they all
exhibit the same behavior.

I hope an update comes soon. :)

[Bug 1058315] Re: ubuntu firefox modifications add-on makes firefox is unresponsive when accessing webserver using windows based authentication

2013-12-02 Thread Steve O
Just did a little bit of testing, and this problem does not seem to
occur on basic authentication, only on pages with Windows-based
authentication dialog boxes. To confirm, I used tested Firefox running
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications using the public testing endpoint at
https://httpbin.org/basic-auth/user/passwd (with both HTTP and HTTPS).
The username is user and the password is passwd for this particular
endpoint. No problems were encountered here, since this is basic
authentication instead of Windows authentication.

[Bug 1257058] [NEW] low graphics mode boot error

2013-12-02 Thread Ron O
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit with Gnome fallback

System starts with message the system is running in low graphics mode,
the desktop does not come up, and the system is locked from all further
entries.

After one or more system restarts it boots normally. Problem discussed
in http://askubuntu.com/questions/141606/how-to-fix-the-system-is-
running-in-low-graphics-mode-error with several possible solutions. One
that works is to sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf - as long as this file is
gone, there are no more boot errors. However this file keeps re-
appearing and it seems to be re-introduced by the update linux-
firmware_1.79.9_all.deb.

fix bucket groups to be based off of a calendar week concept

Attached is a first attempt patch to address this bug.
It aligns the buckets yesterday to week boundaries, and adds a lastWeek
bucket.

I need information on where to get the beginning of calendar week
localization runtime information

Also, I did the English localization, but none of the others. I would
need help with that.

This needs testers to validate that I didn't break something else.

ha, that is funny!
I've been hunting through the UI and code base to find this info, and I
literally just finished a build with preliminary support to pull in the
calendar.week.start preference, after which I started it up to find a new email
with your last comment.

I do think that getting this from the OS with and override from the app is
correct.
To further complicate things, on OS X, I do believe it should be initially
influenced by the Calendar app settings, then by thunderbird mechanisms.

Thanks for staying with me.

[Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI

2013-10-28 Thread O Gopal
Unless I enable hibernation, when power drops critically low Ubuntu
offers only one option: sudden death. And I don't find that out until
after installation. (More precisely: I find out the first time I reach
the low-power threshold and Ubuntu suddenly just quits.)

And if, then, I'd want hibernation and haven't already made a swap
partition big enough to accommodate it, I now have to monkey with my
partitions.

Not friendly.

I'd like the Suspend option.

[Bug 1245096] [NEW] usx2yloader fails - wrong path to firmware

2013-10-26 Thread Jon-o Addleman
Public bug reported:

I'm having trouble with a tascam US-122. In raring, it worked fine, but
on upgrading to saucy, I ran into problems. First of all, the firmware
is no longer available, since medibuntu no longer exists. I installed
the package from alsa-project.org manually though, and made a symlink
from /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/ to /usr/share/alsa/firmware/, since
that's where the old package installed the files.

Then when I plug the device in, it seems to load the initial firmware
just fine - the syslog shows that it detected the 2nd device and ran the
tascam_fpga script. However, the usx2yloader program fails.

When I run it manually, (usx2yloader -c 1) I get the following error
message: usx2yloader: cannot open the index file
/lib/firmware/usx2yloader/us122.conf

Of course, that's not where the us122.conf file is located, but that
path seems hardcoded in usx2yloader. When I made a symlink from sudo ln
-s /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/usx2yloader/ to /lib/firmware/, it
seems to load the firmware just fine.

I think the issue is with the path hardcoded into the utility. it should
be changed to /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/usx2yloader/us122.conf,
since that's where the old package expected the file to be.

2013-10-21 Thread O. R.
I experience similar problem with gnome-mplayer on single computer with intel
graphics and there is also a lot of DPMS logs.
According this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1231857

xset dpms force on
xset dpms force on
xset dpms force on

causes screen flickers.

[Bug 1229500] Re: mir_demo_client_scroll crashed with SIGSEGV in MirConnection::egl_native_display()

2013-10-18 Thread O. R.
After stopping lighdm
sudo stop lightdm
and switching to VirtualTerminal1 with CTRL-ALT-F1 and starting mir server with
sudo mir_demo_server_shell
and switching to VirtualTerminal2 with CTRL-ALT-F2 and
sudo run mir_demo_client_scroll
and switching back to VirtualTerminal1 with CTRL-ALT-F1

demo is working. But there is warning about unsupported platform in
libEGL(null) which other mir demos don't throw.

[Bug 1203847] [NEW] thunderbird process does not end on exiting the application

2013-07-22 Thread John O
Public bug reported:

When closing thunderbird, the process does not stop. As a result, when I
next attempt to start the process, I have to do manually kill the
process in order to reopen thunderbird.

Although this installation was 8 days ago, that was a fresh
installation. Since then, I also wiped my .thunderbird folder.

Current Add-ons I have installed are:

Autoarchive 0.2.2*
EDS Contact Integration 0.5
Enigmail 1.4.6**
ExQuilla for Microsoft Exchange 21.0*
Global Menu Bar integration 3.6.4
Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration 1.3.1
(More detailed info in Extensions.txt, attached).
Plugins:

DivX (R) Web Player 1.4.0.233
iTunes Application Detector
QuickTiem Plug-in 7.6.6
Shockwave Flash 11,2,202,297
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Videos 3.6.3)
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Videos)

Before you ask, I didn't install most of this. The only add-ons I have
installed personally, that were not already there are labelled with an asterix.
**Installed from Ubuntu repository, NOT Mozilla.

Of course, the bug may well be in an add-on, but similar problems seem
to have been reported in the past regarding other add-ons, but as they
are separate, I would suspect a bug within thunderbird itself.

When closing thunderbird, the process does not stop. As a result, when I
next attempt to start the process, I have to do manually kill the
process in order to reopen thunderbird.

Although this installation was 8 days ago, that was a fresh
installation. Since then, I also wiped my .thunderbird folder.

[Bug 1177394] Re: USB sequence errors in snd_usb_usx2y

2013-07-21 Thread Jon-o Addleman
I think that the 3.03 package is actually a utility for setting up the
bios of multiple laptops at once. It doesn't appear to have an actual
bios in it.

From the readme:
WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES

ThinkPad stores various BIOS settings in its non-volatile memory.
These settings are configured by using the ThinkPad setup menu. In general,
this is done manually by the user. However, from a deployment point of view,
the BIOS settings are expected to be common to all machines and to be
controlled remotely. This program is the Windows based of ThinkPad Setup
  Settings Capture/Playback Utility (SRCMOS.EXE or SRSETUP.EXE).

  Features:
  - Copy ThinkPad setup data settings
  - Copy ThinkPad secure data settings
  - Install and update for power-on password
  - Install for hard disk password

I think BIOS 2.19 (which I have) is the most recent version. (this is
the version of the 'BIOS Update Utility' and the 'BIOS Update Bootable
CD')

[Bug 1015183]

2013-07-19 Thread Dsd-o
Peter fixed a load of stuff and it got merged in xserver master.
Unfortunately there have not been any development releases of xserver
master since that happened, but that will come in time.

If you are still seeing problems, and are definitely using xserver
master, then I suggest explaining your problem here (if you are sure
that you are seeing the same issue), or opening a new bug report (if it
seems like your issue might be unrelated).

[Bug 970200] Re: QT apps won't work - QT_IM_MODULE=xim

2013-06-07 Thread Jon-o Addleman
I did have ibus-qt4 installed. The problem was that the
/etc/X11/xinput.d/ibus script would explicitly set the QT variable to
xim because of an error in the path to the library.

In any case, this was fixed in natty, and in raring, that script seems
to have been replaced with /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70im-config_launch, which
also sets the variables properly. This bug can be closed, I think.

[Bug 1173349]

2013-06-01 Thread O-brian
So here's what I've found so far. My work laptop has an Intel chipset
and a 64-bit install of Fedora 18. I've never had the notification
widget crash the desktop there. My home computer has a nVidia card and
was a 32-built version of Fedora 18 and was having crashes all the time.
I reinstalled with a 64-built Fedora 18 build and still had the issues.
The only way I've been able to keep kwin from dying is to disable the
system tray notifications widget. I've read elsewhere it's a code path
issue in Qt that KDE 4.10+ triggers that wasn't triggered in the past
and could require a significant rewrite of Qt to fix. Also doesn't seem
to happen on either system with compositing disabled, but I like my eye
candy ;)

So for me, it seems to get triggered more often with kwin running
compositing on nVidia cards than Intel cards. You guys having issues
might try disabling the notification widget. Yeah, notifications can
pop in the middle of the screen, but at least the don't bring kwin down
with them.
