[Bug 767975] Re: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver

2012-06-05 Thread Observer
Same exact situation as Jose #58 for me. Asus 1015b (latest bios),
Ubuntu 12.04pae LTE 32bit, Fusion c50

Trying the acpi_sleep=s3_bios option.
It allows me to resume from sleep quite consistently, but powering down seem to
cause the reboot to hand after bios; I need to take out the battery before I
can power up after that.

Will test a few more times to be sure.

2011-04-20 Thread Observer
I spoke too soon. Easystroke is working now. But it just crashed. I
suspect the crash is a feature of natty and not easystroke, as
practically all the apps that has anything to do with the indicator or
systray has crashed at least once ... or ten times.

Also, now wicd refuses to connect to the internet. Using secondary
netbook to file this.  grrr.

[Bug 764041] Re: gconf-cleaner crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-04-20 Thread Observer
Here's how I reproduce this bug:

I am presently with natty beta installed with the latest update as of 15
minutes ago.
1. Run gconf-cleaner from terminal or menu.
2. Click forward. Gconf-cleaner Analyzes system conf.
(At this point, there are multiple warnings. See gc.log)
3. Step 3, click Save As.
4. Choose default filename and click Save at File Dialog.
5. App core dumps with

GConf-Cleaner:ERROR:main.c:265:_gconf_cleaner_value_to_string: code should not
be reached
Aborted (core dumped)

[Bug 745839] Re: [Xpress 200M] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock() due to compiz loading on rez texture size

2011-04-14 Thread Observer
@Bryce,  you wrote

 No, not really a driver issue. Rather, you're pushing the hardware
beyond its capabilities.

 The X300 radeon card in the Xpress 200M is capable only of a maximum
2048x2048 combined screen dimension when running compiz. See bug
#555641.

Appreciate your time in looking into this, and your explanation.
While I agree that the driver may not support going beyond 2048 x 2048, I
disagree that the hardware is not capable of doing it.

For the past (nearly) two years since Jaunty, I have been using this
same notebook with Xpress 200M, enjoying full compiz capability at
extended desktop mode with 1440x900 (LCD on video out) + 1280x1024
(notebook LCD). All these with the whistle and bells of 3d desktop etc
etc. So, clearly the hardware is capable of compiz effects at larger
than 2048x2048.

Granted, the new driver and driver model (DRM etc) may assume or put
contraints on the Xpress 200M graphics hardware, and understandably,
such constraints cannot be easily fixed.

I'll try with the up-down layout instead of the left-right layout and
update this thread again.

Thanks again for all the replies.

[Bug 757972] Re: Easystroke doesn't recognize button release

2011-04-12 Thread Observer
This is also affecting me.

To add on, it affects not just easystroke, but any other app that uses mouse
right-click.
Further, this behaviour seem to make the right mouse click is stuck once you
click on it. In some cases, it seem to extend to left-click as well. So in
Google Chrome, the grab to scroll extension is stuck with it as a result.

For me, when it goes into this behaviour, I cannot do left click, until
I do a few right clicks and the system snap out of it.

[Bug 745839] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()

2011-03-31 Thread Observer
Yes it did. Unfortunately I can only verify that compiz was working in
Jaunty, 'cos I was not able to get Karmic, Lucid or Maverick to work on
my machine at all.

Thanks! ... any other info that might be useful?

btw, I need to add acpi=off noacpi nolapic in my kernel boot up.
Also, I am using grub 0.97

I can reproduce the bug too.

Metacity works ... but gtk-windows-decorator does not.

[Bug 528941] [NEW] Updating 9.10 netbook remix on external usb drive (FAT32)

2010-02-27 Thread Observer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

Hello,
I'm a Linux newb so feel free to delete the report if it is of no interest for
the developers.
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix to an old 20GB drive in external
USB enclosure (the installer only used the DVD-sized 4.5GB of that FAT32
space). There was also an internal HD with same distro installed on it but not
mounted during the update. When prompted by the update manager I selected the
USB drive (devb or something like that). Attached is the error message I've got.
Thanks to the developers and shalom from Israel.

[Bug 363344] Re: [Jaunty]: Suspend resume breaks wireless

2009-12-30 Thread Observer
Got a workaround fix found in
http://izanbardprince.wordpress.com/category/ubuntu/page/2/

In my case, I put the ifconfig wlan0 down and modprobe -r code in hibernate,
suspend case instead of the resume case.
--

Create a file called 66wireless in /etc/pm/sleep.d:
cd /etc/pm/sleep.d/  gedit 66wireless.sh
And for the Ralink RT61PCI driver which I use, paste this in:
#!/bin/sh
case $1 in
hibernate|suspend)
;;
thaw|resume)
ifconfig wlan0 down
modprobe -r rt61pci
modprobe rt61pci
ifconfig wlan0 up
;;
help)
echo “$( basename $0 ): Reinitializes wireless (rt61pci) after a suspend”
;;
*)
echo “$( basename $0 ): called wrong”
exit 1
;;
esac
And save it, now:
sudo chmod +x 66wireless.sh
and reboot. (rt61pci is the name of my wireless driver module, replace it with
the name of yours) The next time you suspend, your wireless will most likely
survive.
