[Bug 104465] Re: gaim (aim connection) says "waiting for network connection"

2007-04-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Same (similar) problem here.

I guess it's the same problem for all bug-reports reading "waiting for
network connection". The reason is network-manager.

As I have a imobile computer using wlan I don't use network-manager,
because the log-in to the wireless LAN only appears on per-user base.
Network-manager seems to think that there is not (W)LAN-connection and
reports this to gaim and also liferea. This is probably ment as a
feature, but network-manager seems to mis-behave here.

Public bug reported:

Clicking e.g. "Places/Home Folder" in gnome-panel doesn't open $HOME in
nautilus, but creates a dialog telling me:

Could not open location 'file:///home/oleid'

No application is registered as handling this file

Creating a new user with an empty home directory it works fine. Removing
$HOME/.gnome* doesn't fix the problem.

Note: I use this home direcory a long time now with different
distributions and using it in arch linux works fine, right now.

What could I do to diagnose the problem further? In what config file (in
my home directory) is stored, what app is called to handle
file:///somedir?

[Bug 260492] Re: opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly

2008-10-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
The default application for folders in gnome should be nautilus-folder-
handler, as it contains:

MimeType=x-directory/gnome-default-
handler;x-directory/normal;inode/directory;application/x-gnome-saved-
search;

Experimenting with ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I get the
following result:

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

==> I can't open the home folder from gnome-panel

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;

Everything works as expected. So I suspect something is wrong with
nautilus-folder-handler.desktop on my intrepid system.

Using strace I found out that there was a local nautilus-folder-
handler.conf in ~/.local/share/applications/

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than

happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

[Bug 289517] [NEW] banshee does not use gstreamer default settings

2008-10-26 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I'm using two sound devices on my computer (internal and usb-speakers).
Therefore I configured pulse to create a combined output device and use
it as it's default. Using gstreamer-properties I set pulse as default
output device.

All apps using gstreamer as totem and rhythmbox play properly on both
devices but not banshee. It is reported as pulse client, but there is no
sound (currently I've only connected usb speakers).

Unloading the driver of the internal sound card banshee plays properly
the music using the usb device.

That's why I assume that -- although it plays it's sound using pulse --
it uses the first pulse output device, not the combined one which is
default. Even changing gstreamer to explicitly use the combined device,
not the default doesn't make banshee behave right.

During a quick search in banshees source code I couldn't find the proper
place to change this behavior. Maybe someone else is more lucky.

Yes, as I assumed it plays on the first device, not the combined out

I know, that's why it's strange... But something is definitively
different, as other gstreamer apps use the combined output by default.

[Bug 280729] [NEW] Can't open location in "Places"

2008-10-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 260492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260492

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

MimeType=x-directory/gnome-default-
handler;x-directory/normal;inode/directory;application/x-gnome-saved-
search;

Experimenting with ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I get the
following result:

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

==> I can't open the home folder from gnome-panel

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;

Everything works as expected. So I suspect something is wrong with
nautilus-folder-handler.desktop on my intrepid system.

Using strace I found out that there was a local nautilus-folder-
handler.conf in ~/.local/share/applications/

Deleting it solved the problem, as the system wide file seems to work.
But this arises two questions:

1. How did this file come to my $HOME?
2. Why didn't it work?

It seems as if this file is from gnome-2.20. Restoring the local version and
setting Hidden=false everything works, too - but not using Hidden=true.
Was this attribute ignored before?

2008-10-26 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Oh yeah... sorry, I forgot

I'm using intrepid and therefor it's banshee 1.2.1-3ubuntu1.

> Could you open pavucontrol and see which stream Banshee is playing on?
That's exactly what I was looking for...

Yes, as I assumed it plays on the first device, not the combined out
while rhythmbox uses the combined output.

> Banshee doesn't play media directly, it tells gstreamer to play it. In other
> words, it should work fine.

I know, that's why it's strange... But something is definitively
different, as other gstreamer apps use the combined output by default.

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than
high. I'm currently using intrepid, but if I recall right this also
happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

This is maybe related to http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg579375.html, but when removing
-dAutoRotatePages=/None from epstopdf (--> patch) it doesn't occur
anymore. That's why the easiest fix is to patch epstopdf and that's why
I report it here.

Well, in those cases file:// was handled by another application, im my
case it is no app.

The links from places in natulus sidebar work fine in nautilus and in
the gtk filechooser.

As described, I could make it work again by right-clicking any folder in
nautilus and use "open with other app" and select nautilus.

Shouldn't be nautilus the fall-back application in gnome-panel if no app
is registered?

Btw.: #260492 is hard to find when looking for a problem with gnome-

Now, as this bug exists. But I searched for dupes before creating this
bug and I couldn't find one, as I had the impression there was a bug in
gnome-panel and searched for it's error message.

When searching for the error message again this bug isn't found, as it
is reported as a duplicate (which is okay), but people experiencing
this bug will create another report, as bug #260492 is hard to find
when looking for a problem with gnome-panel (even if gnome-panel isn't
the problem).

2008-10-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 260492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260492

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Clicking e.g. "Places/Home Folder" in gnome-panel doesn't open $HOME in
nautilus, but creates a dialog telling me:

Could not open location 'file:///home/oleid'

No application is registered as handling this file

Creating a new user with an empty home directory it works fine. Removing
$HOME/.gnome* doesn't fix the problem.

Note: I use this home direcory a long time now with different
distributions and using it in arch linux works fine, right now.

What could I do to diagnose the problem further? In what config file (in

file:///somedir?

[Bug 82335] Re: network-manager should not set offline mode when it manages no device

2007-04-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Tested today on two machines, one with a LAN card, the other with a
WLAN-card configured in network/interfaces to use dhcp, network doesn't
come up after boot.

an "ifdown eth0 ; ifup eth0" in /etc/rc.local helps as a workaround,
but networkmanager keeps complaining that there is no network

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than
high. I'm currently using intrepid, but if I recall right this also
happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

This is maybe related to http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg579375.html, but when removing
-dAutoRotatePages=/None from epstopdf (--> patch) it doesn't occur
anymore. That's why the easiest fix is to patch epstopdf and that's why
I report it here.

That's exactly what I was looking for...

Yes, as I assumed it plays on the first device, not the combined out
while rhythmbox uses the combined output.

I know, that's why it's strange... But something is definitively
different, as other gstreamer apps use the combined output by default.

This is all I wanted to say *g*

similar problem: (as reported in bug #280729).

But in my case no application is linked with a folder, which is correct
according to [1], but clicking the "Places/Home Folder" or another
directory in gnome-panel doesn't open it.

I don't know what gnome-panel does to execute the launcher, but the
default should be to open a folder in nautilus, if nothing else is set

[Bug 280729] [NEW] Can't open location in "Places"

2008-10-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 260492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260492

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

MimeType=x-directory/gnome-default-
handler;x-directory/normal;inode/directory;application/x-gnome-saved-
search;

Experimenting with ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I get the
following result:

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

==> I can't open the home folder from gnome-panel

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than
high. I'm currently using intrepid, but if I recall right this also
happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

This is maybe related to http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg579375.html, but when removing
-dAutoRotatePages=/None from epstopdf (--> patch) it doesn't occur
anymore. That's why the easiest fix is to patch epstopdf and that's why
I report it here.

Oh yeah... sorry, I forgot

I'm using intrepid and therefor it's banshee 1.2.1-3ubuntu1.

That's exactly what I was looking for...

Yes, as I assumed it plays on the first device, not the combined out
while rhythmbox uses the combined output.

I know, that's why it's strange... But something is definitively
different, as other gstreamer apps use the combined output by default.

[Bug 82335] Re: network-manager should not set offline mode when it manages no device

When searching for the error message again this bug isn't found, as it

the problem).

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 260492 ***

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Clicking e.g. "Places/Home Folder" in gnome-panel doesn't open $HOME in
nautilus, but creates a dialog telling me:

Could not open location 'file:///home/oleid'

No application is registered as handling this file

Creating a new user with an empty home directory it works fine. Removing
$HOME/.gnome* doesn't fix the problem.

Note: I use this home direcory a long time now with different
distributions and using it in arch linux works fine, right now.

What could I do to diagnose the problem further? In what config file (in
my home directory) is stored, what app is called to handle
file:///somedir?

[Bug 260492] Re: opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly

2008-10-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
The default application for folders in gnome should be nautilus-folder-
handler, as it contains:

MimeType=x-directory/gnome-default-
handler;x-directory/normal;inode/directory;application/x-gnome-saved-
search;

Experimenting with ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list I get the
following result:

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;

==> I can't open the home folder from gnome-panel

[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nautilus.desktop;

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than
high. I'm currently using intrepid, but if I recall right this also
happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

This is maybe related to http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-

-dAutoRotatePages=/None from epstopdf (--> patch) it doesn't occur
anymore. That's why the easiest fix is to patch epstopdf and that's why

Yes, as I assumed it plays on the first device, not the combined out
while rhythmbox uses the combined output.

I know, that's why it's strange... But something is definitively
different, as other gstreamer apps use the combined output by default.

[Bug 82335] Re: network-manager should not set offline mode when it manages no device

2007-04-09 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Tested today on two machines, one with a LAN card, the other with a
WLAN-card configured in network/interfaces to use dhcp, network doesn't
come up after boot.

an "ifdown eth0 ; ifup eth0" in /etc/rc.local helps as a workaround,
but networkmanager keeps complaining that there is no network
connection.

[Bug 294809] [NEW] epstopdf: generated pdf files are rotated

2008-11-06 Thread Olaf Leidinger
Public bug reported:

For some reason epstopdf always rotates eps files, which are wider than
high. I'm currently using intrepid, but if I recall right this also
happened in debian-3.1, so it isn't a very new bug.

This is maybe related to http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg579375.html, but when removing
-dAutoRotatePages=/None from epstopdf (--> patch) it doesn't occur
anymore. That's why the easiest fix is to patch epstopdf and that's why
I report it here.

** Affects: texlive-bin (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
