[Bug 1218641] [NEW] dhclient uses 100% cpu when ipv6 is not igored

2013-08-29 Thread Oli Wade
Public bug reported:

When network manager is set so automatic or automatic (addresses
only) for ipv6, dhclient is observed to use 100% CPU.

There are no apparent errors in the syslog. Setting ipv6 to ignore
solves the problem.

When it is not ignored, ipv6 addressing seems to complete (both dhcp and
sac); when it is ignored only the sac address gets configured.

Typical top output without ignoring ipv6:

Happens also on Ubuntu 11.10 (x64); opening from a terminal the message
Not enough memory is displayed. There are a number of pulseaudio
messages in the syslog.

After following the advice in the thread linked in the skype community,
disabling the login sound seems to have helped somewhat and this has not
occurred so often (today was the first time for a while).

Hi Jeremy.

The bug still occurs, but I am unable to test or upgrade at the moment
since it is my main desktop computer. I expect to move to 10.04 in
October at the end of support for 9.04.

I can attach the apport if you think it would be helpful though there
are some files included already at the beginning of the report.

Stefanos: It is definitely more than 10 seconds; approximately 133 (look
at the bootchart png file)!

Cheers,
   Oli

[Bug 509342] [NEW] two minute delay starting up

2010-01-18 Thread Oli Wade
Public bug reported:

When my computer starts up now there is a two minute delay while the
words starting up are displayed on the screen. I think that this
coincided with a new motherboad, rather than a kernel update. The system
is 64bit Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04).

It happens often but not always; the last time it booted I tried to
remove quiet splash from the grub menu and it started up normally.

On the advice of the forum
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1351511) I have installed
bootchart and attached the output of a delayed boot - one can see that
everything is squashed up on the right hand side.

[Bug 361689] Re: hald crashed with SIGSEGV in hotplug_event_begin_add_blockdev when assembling mdraid devices

2009-06-18 Thread Oli Wade
It happened after a reboot - I blamed this update due to the hal in
the error message.

I've downgraded (sudo apt-get install hal/jaunty libhal1/jaunty libhal-
storage1/jaunty) but the problem remained through several reboots until
I did a shutdown and then poweron.

Therefore I suspect some part(s) of the hardware might have been in a
weird state and there is nothing wrong with the update.

[Bug 278078] Re: The key repeat delay for the down-arrow, left-arrow, and End keys is longer than the other keys

2009-06-15 Thread Oli Wade
Hi Ricardo. Thanks for your suggestion!

I have a dual seat configuration and use the evdev driver, so I'm not
sure that I can (easily) reproduce the same setup with the live CD.

I noticed that above there is a suggestion that the keys do repeat but
take longer while for me they did not repeat at all (at least for 30
seconds of holding down), so maybe there is a slightly different error.

I can post my xorg.conf if you'd like?

[Bug 90587] Re: via unichrome pro (0x1106, 0x3344) unsupported

I also had this problem when using the same (1106:3344) graphics device.
8.04 and openchrome now seem to work great though.

Additionally there is a similar bug in RH:
