[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-06-19 Thread Oliver.Sutton
reverting to
X.Org X Server 1.7.7 (from stable=squeeze) xserver-xorg-core_1.7.7-14_amd64.deb
and 1:7.5+8+squeeze1 with associated packages/modules (ie evdev,...)
nvidia 285
works.

it was no pain to downgrade, xserver-xorg-core does not want latest libc, and
newest libs do not depend on latest xorg server.

no change on kernel (3.2.0-2-amd64) and libc (2.13-33)

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-06-18 Thread Oliver.Sutton
i'm on debian with

05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT]
(rev a1)
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [GeForce 8400 GS]
(rev a1)
07:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev
a2)

[240346.551] (II) NVIDIA GLX Module 302.17 Tue Jun 12 16:22:45 PDT 2012
X.Org X Server 1.12.1.902 (1.12.2 RC 2)
vmlinuz-3.2.0-2-amd64

with nvidia version 290 i have to use startx — -ignoreABI, but it doesnt
work

with nvidia 302.17 or 295.59 it's working with 9wm (as a window manager, but
not fvwm , not twm)
i can start chrome and iceweasel and browse the web and youtube.com

if i start xmessage, or xclock, it crashes.

upgraded from bios 2.3.1 to 2.5.3, it fixed the problem, i can reboot
correctly.
