[Bug 974938] Re: Process gsettings prevents logging in
Hi All, I think this bug is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/870874 I'm not sure and I will not mark it as such, but symptoms seems the same: LDAP/NFS users, gsettings preventing session open with blackscreen. Various workarounds seem to work with mitigated results (installing nscd, removing /etc/X11/XSession.d/90qt-a11y…). For me, disabling the XSession.d script worked the first time, then not the subsequents. Did not try installing nscd yet, but caching LDAP results is not an option, it will just hide/mask an underlying network problem IMHO. regards, Olivier -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974938 Title: Process gsettings prevents logging in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/974938/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 969032] Re: Python os module lacks the chflags/lchflags methods
Yes, I know `chattr` and I already use it on Linux. But referring to http://docs.python.org/library/os.html#os.chflags the flags feature IS the chattr on Linux (Availability: Unix, not just MacOS and FreeBSD). Reading further http://bugs.python.org/issue1490190 , the flags/chattr seems understood as different by upstream, but it is really the same system call. Though it has not the same name, it does the same thing (both flags and chattr have SF_IMMUTABLE, SF_APPEND, and more in common). Doing `os.chflags()` in python on Linux should make the `chattr` equivalent syscall on Linux, if I understand the Python documentation correctly. Only some flags values would be different (some missing and some more than on other OSes). It seems to be a good candidate for an upstream bug, though. I will investigate a little more in this direction. ** Bug watch added: Python Roundup #1490190 http://bugs.python.org/issue1490190 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969032 Title: Python os module lacks the chflags/lchflags methods To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.7/+bug/969032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 969032] [NEW] Python os module lacks the chflags/lchflags methods
Public bug reported: Reading http://docs.python.org/library/os.html#os.stat , I noticed that on Linux the flags or chattr features have a Python interface since version 2.6. However, on up-to-date Precise (Python 2.7.3rc2) and Oneiric (Python Python 2.7.2+), the following commands : import os os.chflags report AttributeError in a Python shell. Grepping in /usr/lib/python2.7, the only reference to chflags is in the `shutil.py` file which just checks if the python method is present or not. As the system interface is OK (I can successfully use chattr and lsattr in the shell on both Ubuntu versions, and historically this features has been present since I started using Linux), I think the flags part of the Python distribution should be activated on Ubuntu. Currently I need this feature in my Python application to see if some files have the IMMUTABLE or APPEND flag, but generally speaking I can't see any good reason why this feature is not active while beeing part of the standard Python distribution. regards, -- Olivier ** Affects: python2.7 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969032 Title: Python os module lacks the chflags/lchflags methods To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.7/+bug/969032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 274278] Re: DRM Breaks Resume from Suspend
It seems it hit the same bug (latest intrepid, Sony Vaio BZ11XN + Intel GMA X4500MHD, HW info located @ http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony) : - when I suspend, everything seems fine ; the machine shuts down and the yellow led starts blinking. - on resume, all kbd leds blink one time (kbd reset i presume), the LCD goes on (only backlight), disk led blinks a little, LCD goes off then back on with X cursor, - but the X cursor is stuck. caps lock doesn't work, sysrq doesn't work. only solution is 4-seconds press on power off (no reset button on my vaio). This has happened from Intrepid kernel 2.6.27-3. I followed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend, did the suspend/resume cycle with and without external usb devices pluged in, and only got (every time) : [4.723037] Magic number: 0:953:373 [4.723096] hash matches /build/buildd/linux-2.6.27/drivers/base/power/main.c:390 No more hash matches when getting dmesg from a recovery boot just after the power-off following the kernel freeze. - I didn't test previous Intrepid 2.6.26 yet. - I didn't test on hardy because this hardware is very recent and there isn't video support in xorg for my card in hardy. - i didn't test to put a touch in every pm-files, but as suggested by jason, this will not help that much. - i will test with drm kernel module blacklisted (next thing to do to confirm this is the same exact bug). - i will try to recompile a kernel with ACPI_DEBUG=y, but i haven't compiled a kernel for years (thanks to ubuntu, i didn't touch xorg.conf for years too… ;-) ), this will take a little time. Any more advice on how to nail down the problem ? I know without the kernel oops this is kind of stunning difficulty, but i'd be happy to provide this oops because suspend/resume is kind of important feature for me. -- DRM Breaks Resume from Suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 274278] Re: DRM Breaks Resume from Suspend
The bug doesn't seem to be related to drm, at least on my machine : - I switched to console, stopped gdm (and thus X) and unloaded drm kernel module. - echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace ; /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force - machine suspended successfully - on resume, hard drive led blincked a few times, but console screen never appeared, caps lock didn't work, nor SysRQ… this happens on -6 intrepid kernel, -7 is currently downloading. I will test with it and post a new comment here. I don't think recompiling a kernel will help me, as I can't get any output from the kernel anyway when it crashes… ** Description changed: - Kernel version 2.6.27-4, having the drm module loaded results in suspend + Kernel version 2.6.27-4, having the drm module loaded results in resume (90% of the time) not returning from suspend. Going into Xorg.conf and disabling acceleration is not enough on its own to prevent the hang, you have to ensure the drm module itself is not loaded, even if it is not in use. This bug can be confirmed for all versions of the Intrepid kernels (my hardware only runs on intrepid) with the exception of the linux-rt kernel, which suspends prefectly with DRM. The crash happens after X is brought back up and tasks are being resumed. The mouse cursor is displayed but cannot be moved, the machine is entirely non-responsive to everything. This is not just hung video, the kernel is completely down. No kernel oops is displayed. Log files only show a successful suspend and then the eventual boot after the cold restart. Occasionally (depending on how quickly tasks resume I guess) some of the post resume scripts get to run. I added touch commands to each of them so I could trace them and it gets through a semi-random number of them each time. Occasionally it will even get through all of them before the hard lock. The hard lock does not itself seem to be in pm-utils and its scripts, but rather inside drm in some sort. System Specs: Thinkpad T500 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz 3GB RAM Intel X4500HD integrated video using i915.ko running latest intrepid as of Sep 25. -- DRM Breaks Resume from Suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 274278] Re: DRM Breaks Resume from Suspend
Some news after nearly 2h of tests… - latest 2.6.27-7 produces the same crash/freeze on resume (x cursor stuck, no sysrq). Sometimes the unlock dialog can appear before the freeze (but only the frame, not the input field, the photo, the user name…), sometimes only the X cursor. - freeze happens on 100% of suspend/resume tries for me, when using any of Intrepid's 2.6.27-* kernels (tried -3, -5, -6, -7) - trying the 2.6.26-rt from universe, the suspend resume cycle works perfectly, modulo the following workaround-able problem : - first suspend/resume brought me to a strange situation : the computer resumed correctly, but screensaver corrupted the screen (moving the mouse makes screen flicker, doesn't stop screensaver, doesn't bring unlock dialog). - pressing control-alt-f1 to get to console gets me to a black screen (backlight is on, but nothing displayed, not event a cursor). I can [blindly] enter my username and my password, then killall gnome- screensaver (with the space). returning to X shows the cursor still making the screen blink/flicker (seems normal). - logging in from SSH and killing gnome-screensaver makes the X screen come back to normal, and computer is fully usable (at least visually : external USB mouse ok, network manager wired OK, wifi OK, webcam ok with Cheese, gnome-power-manager OK, compiz OK…). - I disable screensaver (uncheck activate screensaver when idle), try another suspend/resume cycle. - on resume, I get a black screen, but my caps lock works and X seems OK (because I inverted control and caps lock, and the control-key puts the caps led on and off) - going to console strangely gets me a working console (in which i logged in a few minutes ago to kill gnome- screensaver and notice my previous typo). - pressing control-alt-f7 brings me back to X, fully working. - suspending/resuming again (i really enjoy this functionnality when it works…) works flawlessly. So, my conclusions : - suspend/resume totally crashes my kernel with any of the 2.6.27-* Intrepid kernels. - suspend/resume works correctly with 2.6.26-rt from Intrepid's universe, and I sometimes hit another bug related to Intel GMA/video BIOS/fb problem, which forces me, on resume, to go back to console and back to X, to get X displayed on screen. I know there are some X/Intel/uvesafb problems already reported, i'm subscribed to most, but I can't seem to find which one is the one I encounter ; hope they will all be resolved before release). Now, I will stick to 2.6.26-rt kernel, because suspend/resume works perfectly, and all my devices seem ok. I know this is a bad decision because 2.6.26 is not in main, not the official intrepid kernel… But my kernel/debbuging skills are not enough to find what's wrong in the resume cycle of the 2.6.27. I will be happy to help if someone can guide me. I can even provide an ssh access to a kernel hacker if needed. By the way, I can't confirm with 100% of certainty that my bug is the same as Jason's. But it seems. Hi, Here on a Sony Vaio BZ11XN (HW info @ http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony/) with a volito2 tablet, on latest Ubuntu intrepid: when I click with the stylus, the click action comes (button, menu, etc), but the cursor gets stuck (doesn't move any more). I must move the pen far away from the tablet and back to get the X cursor moving again. [Bug 205990] Re: [hardy] splash screen disappears after a few seconds
Hi, I confirm that this bug can occur on latest Intrepid. I resized my swap, and obviously it changed its UUID. I didn't think I had to update anything more than fstab… But I came across the same problem as in this bug : usplash quits just before “reading files needed to boot” message appears on text console. Using the suggested workaround/fix (blkid → fstab/resume files → rebuild initramfs → reboot) works great and totally solves my problem. USPLASH IS BACK ! YAY !! But it seems usplash is not hardened on latest intrepid than on hardy, regarding to this swap UUID problem. I think that /etc/…/resume should be kept empty (or non-existent) if there is only one swap device referenced in fstab, and the one from fstab should be taken if “resume” file is empty or non-existent. … when redondant/duplicate configuration data leads to problems… regards, -- [hardy] splash screen disappears after a few seconds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, here is my .xsession-errors when the applet is white. Sadly, I crawled it and didn't find anything related to the CPU Freq Applet. Since I reported the bug, the applet has been 5 times all-white, out of approximately 15 times I opened my GNOME session (a little more than once a day). I'm sorry I do not know exactely how to reproduce the conditions of this bug. [Bug 267047] [NEW] cpufreq applet doesn't draw anything (white square) in gnome-panel
Public bug reported: Hi, When my session opens, sometimes cpufreq-applet doens't draw itself on the panel (see attachment). Left/Right button click and changing preferences (which work perfectly per se) doesn't help : at best the white square gets bigger if I choose to display graphic and text instead of just graphic. Removing the applet and adding an identically configured new one to the panel is a workaround, but not acceptable for a standard user I think. On my machine this bug appears 50% of time (this is a rough estimation). Hardware info can be found at http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony/ I'm on up-to-date intrepid, and this behaviour as been seen from alpha 4, when I joined the lucky-alpha-debuggers because my video card was not supported under hardy ;-) My WM is compiz. Hi, I encounter this bug too, on a Sony Vaio BZ11XN (Intel GMA X4500MDH). more info (lspci, dmesg, uname, xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log*) @ http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony/ To work around the problem, I had to delete ~/.gconf/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/xrandr/ and reboot the machine from SSH. Impossible to get a working screen, even with restarting GDM or killing X manually. No return to VTs possible after the black screen. For now, i've forgotten to use an external monitor. The only thing that works is Clone mode : without touching the configuration, X seems to be in clone mode ; un-setting “mirror screens” to this setup with gnome resolution app and setting a different resolution on external monitor (1280x1024) does nothing, and any other changes (rotating screen) results in a ssh-reboot-needed-black-screen.
