[Bug 162603] bwbar do not start with the init.d script

Public bug reported:

Under feisty fawn server, /et/init.d/bwbar does not start the daemon :

Panayiotis,
I confirm that your package works PERFECTLY on my Acer Aspire 5024 wlmi with

I use the Broadcom bcm43xx GTK installer
(http://blakecmartin.googlepages.com/index.html) to install auto-magically the
driver OR ndiswrapper that fit the best to my computer !

Now we should work on a gutsy gibbon package (and maybon a edgy and

Panayiotis,
I totaly agree with you ...
Let's "merge" all this stuff in the acer-laptop-wifi project on Launchpad ...
let us join together our forces ! :o)
(even though i'm a bit confused with the launchpad behavior ...)
I will package (as soon as i have time before me ...) my own acer-acpi .deb
relying on your .diff file.
After this, i will submit it to a MOTU i know. He will tell me if the package
is ok and maybe he could "sponsor" me or you ... to get the acer-acpi package
inserted in the next Ubuntu release (Hardy Heron) ... wait and see ...

In an other hand, i would be very pleased to speak about this project with you.

2007-09-30 Thread Olivier Prieur
GREAT news Panayk ! Thanx a lot !

I will try your package as soon as possible as i run a 32 bits Ubuntu feisty
fawn for now ...
As i am a beginner in packaging, i was mistaken and confused packaging a kernel
module ... I had several compilation errors in the pbuilder part and i didn't
know how to write the postinst, postrm, etc. files ! :o) I've tried twice
packaging this stuff but without any probing result ...

Is there any chance you make a 32 bits version of your package ???

One of the "blocking" errors was this one :

Hi !
I've got an Acer Aspire 5024 WLMI which is quite the same laptop, excepting the
CPU ... and some other stuffs ... (3020 and 5020 series are very similar)
I've installed Feisty Fawn on my laptop and ran into the same problems :
X hngs up with a black (it should have been corrected but not ! Same results
since Dapper ...)
For the wifi, i use acer_acpi which is a MUST on this computer.

I've made some tutorials about acer aspire (in french !) on my blog
(http://www.mumblyworld.info) and i've just made a beta realease .deb package
of acer_acpi-0.5 (new version). You will find it there :
http://repository.mumblyworld.info. I'm still waiting for feedbacks about it as
it is one of my first packages ... ever ! :o)
Hope it helps !

what are the results of the following commands :
iwconfig
iwlist eth0 scan (assuming eth0 is your wireless interface... Replace by the
right interface if needed ...)
As you can see networks within range, it "seems" that your wirelless interface
is working ... (well or not, that is the question ! :o) )

[Bug 105881] Re: acer_acpi [Needs packaging]

2007-04-12 Thread Olivier Prieur
** Description changed:

  acer_acpi
  Hardware Control for Acer Laptops
  Version 0.4 released 2007-03-31

acer_acpi is a Linux kernel module to allow control of some of the hardware
on later model Acer (and other Wistron OEM) laptops.
acer_acpi was originally developed to enable the wireless LAN card of an Acer
Aspire 5024 under 64-bit Linux. The previous solution to hardware access on
these laptops, Olaf Tauber's acerhk, relied on BIOS calls to work -
unfortunately, it is not possible to call a 32-bit BIOS routine from a 64 bit
operating system, so acer_acpi was born.

2006-09-28 Thread Olivier Prieur
As i try to boot from the Edgy knot 3 live-cd :
- if i boot with the "test or install Ubuntu" : it boots but i've got a black
screen (I can hear the Gnome music)
- if i boot with the "failed safe graphics" option (i.e. xforcevesa option), it
is the same result : black screen but i hear the gnome music

so i switch to another console and run a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg,
choosing the vesa driver and it works !!! But in 1024*768 and not in
1280*800 (15.4'' laptop screen)

BUT if choose the ati driver, it does not work at all !

I don't even have tested the fglrx driver ...

[Bug 62413] Black screen with a ATI graphic card

2006-09-26 Thread Olivier Prieur
Public bug reported:

Acer Aspire 5024 WLMI
Graphic card : ATI Mobility Radeon X700 PCI Express 128 MB VRAM

Got a black screen with a Ubuntu Edgy Knot 3.
I got a black screen even though i choose xforcevesa (fail safe graphic)

I can hear the gnome sound but no screen : BLACK !
A dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, choosing the vesa driver, make it run ...but
in 1024*768 and not in 1280*800.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 38263] Re: freeze at startup

2006-09-19 Thread Olivier Prieur
Edgy Knot3 : same probleme
... and the computer boots with these options :
acpi=off
irqpoll
xforcevesa
... but it seems xforcevesa does not "work" ...
with a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, choosing vesa graphic driver, it works...

[Bug 38263] Re: freeze at startup

2006-09-11 Thread Olivier Prieur
I had the same probleme !

Computer : Acer Aspire 5024 WLMI (turion)
ubuntu version : Edgy Eft knot 2
Can't boot with traditionnal options ...

But the computer boots with these options :
acpi=off
irqpoll
xforcevesa

But : i've got a black screen. Gnome seems to open because i can hear
the music ... but no image even in safe graphic mode !

So i had to switch for another console and make a dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg with vesa solution ... AND IT WORKED !
