[Bug 743541] Re: indicator-weather crashed with SIGSEGV in dbusmenu_menuitem_build_variant()

2012-11-07 Thread Osmo Laitinen
And as side effect of filled /home nobody was able to login to Unity
after reboot. Luckily I had enough knowledge to use terminal and so on.

But due bugs like this it is very hard to recommend Ubuntu (Linux) as
replacement of some other OS for people with less knowledge or interest
to play with computers.

[Bug 743541] Re: indicator-weather crashed with SIGSEGV in dbusmenu_menuitem_build_variant()

2012-11-07 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Does anybody (Canonical?) even try to fix this bug?
I'm running 12.04, which should be LTS and thus quite stable.
Unfortunately due this bug /home filled up, since it generated million lines of:

"(indicator-weather:2252): LIBDBUSMENU-GLIB-CRITICAL **:
dbusmenu_menuitem_build_variant: assertion `DBUSMENU_IS_MENUITEM(mi)'
failed"

to .xsession-errors file which ended up being size of 90G and then /home
was full.

[Bug 946185] Re: Add a "Save Details" button to crash report dialog

2012-09-22 Thread Osmo Laitinen
And this would be useful. if you want to attach those reports to existing bug.
Now there doesn't seem to be that possibility.
To do that one needs to access text console (ie alt+ctrl+f1) to be able to save
(there keep) the bug report generated by apport-bug.

Is the problem with update-manager or Unity or both?

Yes, last command should show also graphical logins. I don't know how
long this has been broken for me, maybe since gdm was replaced with
lightdm. So, it is also true that this might be something desktop users
won't use much.

And after second boot to 3.4.0-rc1-vanillaice this occured again.

Fixed with:

modprobe usbhid

hhmmm... should I do a script and run that always or something...

[Bug 971854] Re: mouse freezes

2012-04-09 Thread Osmo Laitinen
I was incapable to make nvidia to work with linux-
image-3.4.0-030400rc1-generic or linux-image-3.4.0-030400rc2-generic due
these issues:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1951457
(oh, there is bunch of new suggestions, but...).

Anyway, managed to get it work with vanilla 3.4rc1 kernel:
Linux rock 3.4.0-rc1-vanillaice #1 SMP Fri Apr 6 14:17:04 EEST 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Now I try to reproduce this behaviour.

** Description changed:

Mouse freezes, hangs usually after boot.
This has started after upgrading to 12.04 beta.

I was able to bypass this with:
  rmmod hid_logitech_dj
  rmmod usbhid
  modprobe usbhid

But unfortunately those tricks can't be done by other users of this PC.

[Bug 971854] Re: mouse freezes

2012-04-02 Thread Osmo Laitinen
That computer isn't suspended, it happens usually after fresh boot and
in login screen. But mouse has frozen few times after login as well.

I tried "quickly" with
linux-image-3.4.0-030400rc1-generic_3.4.0-030400rc1.201203312035_amd64.deb and
linux-headers-3.4.0-030400rc1-generic_3.4.0-030400rc1.201203312035_amd64.deb

but system didn't complete the boot. Well, I assumed that due these errors
(related to nvidia):

Might be that I need kernel source as well, but didn't find that deb package,
only a few lengthy instructions which I didn't have time to follow, ie:
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/compile-linux-kernel-3-2-for-ubuntu-11-10/
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile

why not make "linux-source-3.n.*.deb" source packages available as well?

[Bug 665481] Re: X crashes suddenly: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error [lucid]

2012-03-23 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Oh, this is old stuff.
I have not been using lucid for years in, since it had some other issues as
well (wlan connection problems etc, iirc...)

I also think that this problem hasn't occurred for a while, this pc has
11.10 now and will have 12.04 as soon as it is stable.

So, for me it is ok to close this issue.

[Bug 955515] Re: Unity freeze

2012-03-15 Thread Osmo Laitinen
I think the problem is with Unity, not X, since some parts of desktop works and
I can switch to text terminals (alt + f1).
Usually when X has frozen for me only way to gain access is via ssh from
another computer.

[Bug 894767] [NEW] Banshee is unable to retrieve CD stub information from MusicBrainz

2011-11-25 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Public bug reported:

If CD is stub (anonymously submitted track list), more info at
http://musicbrainz.org/doc/CD_Stub
Banshee is not able to retrieve album information.

ie, banshee tried to get this:
GET /ws/1/release/?type=xml&limit=1&discid=awpcpEk9Y9XVcpWlHjQ7l1Mo7Og- HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: Banshee/2.2.1 (http://banshee-project.org/)
Host: musicbrainz.org

but couldn't use provided data.

With "normal" CD it work fine.

[Bug 815585] Re: Rhythmbox unable to retrieve CD title / track information from MusicBrainz

2011-11-16 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Why such decision has been made? Why not give people freedom to choose
software they want to use?

Need to force* people to switch Banshee?
Now, when we are forced to use Banshee, will we be forced to switch back to
Rhythmbox with 12.04?

[Bug 846813] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_find()

2011-09-10 Thread Osmo Laitinen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 809420 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809420

I cannot reproduce it anymore.
Apparently there is no need to enable the account after password is set. That's
good.
But there is another usability problem (maybe this should be reported somewhere
else?):

First account is created and it states like this:
Password: Account disabled

Then you press "Account disabled" and set a password. After that it states:
Password:

Now you don't see is account still disabled or was it enabled while
password was set.

Maybe it should look like:
First case:
Account: Disabled
Password: No password set

After setting password:
Account: enabled
Password:

2011-06-30 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Same thing is happening to my HP mini 5102.
I just updated it (today), not sure when it was updated earlier, within 6-10
days.
Alhtough I may have restarted it few times without problems after updates, not
sure though.

Last line for me is:
Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom ... done

After that display mode (resolution) is changed, then nothing happens.

[Bug 735027] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon going wild

2011-03-14 Thread Osmo Laitinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

User logged out of system, but one process was left behind:
username 1607 1 67 14:59 ?03:55:03
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

That filled .xsession-errors with the following line:
(gnome-settings-daemon:1607): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref:
assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

and as a result .xsession error ended up with size of 157G until disk
was filled and that process was killed with KILL (-9).
