*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 858122 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/858122 Newbie here, sorry. This post is regarding comment #9, by Paul Crook. Firstly, what are the exact command lines to be used? Secondly, my file system already has a /run directory, populated with sub-directories such as /lock, /mount, and /udev. This is a different set of sub-directories when compared to /var/run. Given the above, can I really move the latter set of sub-directories (/var/run) over to the former (/run)? Won't I override files or merge sub-directories in a way that can damage my system? [Bug 114714] Re: Lack support to gksu
I don't understand what you mean by add the user at lpadmin too -- can you explain what you mean by that? On Debian and Ubuntu, there two type of users allowed to change CUPS admin options (share printers and like) by default. They are: root and members of lpadmin group. Currently Ubuntu locks root user so you can't change to user by its password since it has no password set and it's locked down. It uses sudo to auth as root. (Jani, have I missed something here?). In this specific case, I haven't found a way to allow a user to be able to change printer options _without_ adding him/her to lpadmin group. Iif root account weren't locked, we might provide root password but it's locked. I'd like to have a centralized place where I can say who has admin rights on this machine and then this specific person will have full control (usually allowing him/her to use sudo to move to root). My specific issue here is it won't work since I cannot auth on sudo on s-c-p. I hope I was clear now. [Bug 114714] Re: Lack support to gksu
Well, as Ubuntu, many Desktop target systems are currently using sudo and locking their root account. On this specific case you won't be able to change server permissions except if you add the user at lpadmin too. My idea is to use gksu to ask the password and then start a new instance of s-c-p as root making possible to change the need server params and like. -- Lack support to gksu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114714 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 114714] Re: Lack support to gksu
Yes, it's an option but it's not good IMHO since you'd need to add every user that would be admin not only at sudo but also at lpadmin group too. Yes, I'm suggesting it or something that provides the same fuctionality for enduser. [Bug 114714] Lack support to gksu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-config-printer I'm doing the packaging for Debian using current Ubuntu source as basis and found that it currently lacks support for gksu while it's really need for Ubuntu and many other distributions to be able to use this properly. I'd like to discuss what alternatives we have to workaround this bug or how difficult might to be add the need support on it. [Bug 114714] Re: Lack support to gksu
My initial idea might be add something on gconf that could change the way of privilage scale is handled and then starting a new instance of system-config-printer if the user provide the right gksu password. It looks enough to most of scenarios I can think about. Re: [Bug 76523] Re: when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. It's not the first time and sometimes the crash became a system crash
No, I don't think that's the case. The files I downloaded after and unless my memory is playing some tricks, firefox was able to report the progress percentage. About my hardware, it is pretty new, a Pentium D 820 processor. I can give you the full specs later, I can't recall them right now at work. Regards, Otavio You have a relatively old system? If so, there are known performance bugs if you have the download progress window open and you download a file for which the server does not tell the total size ... maybe you can confirm this? - Alexander -- when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. Re: [Bug 76523] Re: when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. It's not the first time and sometimes the crash became a system crash
Alexander, it's a while since a last had the issue, but at the time of the report, all I could remember about the pages was this: I was with 6 tabs open, two of them using javascript (gmail and yahoo! finance page), a google search for graph visualization java the main page of jgraph open, another java graph visualization page and the free download page of jgraph, when I clicked on the binary package to download, CPU went high (beat 100%, then back to 70%) and firefox crashed. recently I got the bug again, but I was in a hurry and couldn't collect the trace, but the only thing I can remember is that I was with gmail and yahoo! finance open, then went to download something, and got the bug again. I'm tempted to thing that it might have something to do with heavy js use. I can't tell for sure, but I might have www.pandora.com open at the 2nd crash. Sorry for the poor help on this, Otavio On 3/7/07, Alexander Sack [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Mon, Mar 05, 2007 at 05:35:32PM -, guido983 wrote: I can't be sure. Expecially the swap is always 4% (4,4% max). I think it's okay. But it's not a moment of crisis, and I don't know when exactly this arrives. bye Can you tell which pages you have open when this happen ... so we can construct a reproducible testcase out of this? - Alexander -- when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. Re: [Bug 76523] Re: when firefox is working, cpu start to work heavy and at the end firefox crash. It's not the first time and sometimes the crash became a system crash
The swap is configured on a 512Mb partition, same amount of RAM in my machine. But I didn't notice changes in memory or swap use, although if my memory isn't playing tricks, RAM usage was about 90% and swap about 10%. I'll keep my eyes open case the bug shows himself again.
