And I tried with a fresh install so it isn't just upgrades that are
affected (ref comment #1).

[Bug 1160372] Re: Login is not possible

2013-04-27 Thread Oyvind Eriksen
Can confirm what Jürgen Kreileder (jk) said in comment #18.
Building vsftpd 3.0.2-1ubuntu1 with the changes in
vsftpd-drop-newpid-from-clone.patch from
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/162591 fixes the problem.
I basically used this guide if anyone else want to try:

[Bug 997331] [NEW] Some alsa applications play bad sound

2012-05-09 Thread Oyvind Eriksen
Public bug reported:

Some applications using ALSA plays bad sound. One is WINE applications.
Winecfg test sound is distorted (sounds awful). Spotify running WINE
plays songs way too fast. A flash based program play distorted sound.
The common thing for all of them is that under Applications in Sound
settings it says alsa-plugin and it flashes very rapidly between "No
application is currently playing" and alsa-plugin. It almost looks like
flickering. I've testet a normal wave file using aplay and that was
okey, no problems.

[Bug 129852] Kmyfirewall causes login problems under gnome

Kmyfirewall causes login problems under gnome. To reproduce:

- install kmyfirewall in gnome
- use kmyfirewall to set up a firewall and install this firewall (creates
startup scripts)
- reboot computer
- login in
- login now hangs and after a long time the desktop is shown.

- unistall kmyfirewall

[Bug 37768] Re: gnome-volume-manager mounting Partition, while working with GParted

2007-06-12 Thread Oyvind
For those who are struggling with this in feisty, a way around this bug
is the following:

1) Go to System -> Preferences -> Removable Drives and Media
2) Disable "Mount removable media when hot-plugged" and "Mount removable media
when inserted". (I also disable the option "Browse removable media when
inserted", but this should not be necessary.)
3) Close
4) Start Gparted: System -> Administration -> GNOME Partition Editor

When you have finished, you can enable the options in step 2)

It seems that it's not spinning out of control, debug output shows that
it is working and busy scanning the file system. But trying to kill the
indexer shows

  Debug: Shutdown Requested

and it either completely ignored the "request" or it takes incredibly
long time before actually shuts down. This, of course, is hard to see
without any logging :-)

Re: [Bug 60053] Re: BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!

2006-11-01 Thread Oyvind Gronnesby

This was not an error with WiFi cards, since my computer is a regular
desktop and doesn't have one. It was connected with usplash, though.
After an update of that package it stopped hanging on boot, but would
segfault due to missing theme for my screen resolution (or something in
this direction, forgive me if my memory fails me).

A few updates of usplash later I no longer get the lockup during
shutdown, but usplash still doesn't work properly (doesn't update during
the boot sequence and the picture looks awful).

This doesn't sound like the problem the laptop users have, even if they
get the same symptoms. My guess is that this bug shouldn't have been
merged earlier, because the soft lockup issues seems to be resolved.

[Bug 49473] Re: missing jar files in jde

2006-07-10 Thread Oyvind Gronnesby
This bug appears here as well. JDE makes incorrect assumptions about
the location of JAR files (and some of them are not even installed by
itself or dependencies).

It doesn't sound right to put JAR files in site-lisp, and I think what
needs to be changed is the initialize-instance method in jde.el, plus
the correct JAR files need to be pulled in somehow.
