[Bug 1062311] Re: [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 90X3A] suspend/resume failure

2012-10-22 Thread Pascal Hartig
Tested it with 3.6.3-030603-generic and 3.6.2-030602-generic.
Unfortunately, the resuming issue still occurs.

2012-10-10 Thread Pascal Hartig
Thanks Joseph,

I will try this as soon as possible. Unfortunately, my power charger
just broke so I have to wait for a few days to get a new one.

Cheers,
Pascal

[Bug 1062311] [NEW] [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 90X3A] suspend/resume failure

2012-10-05 Thread Pascal Hartig
Public bug reported:

Resuming does not work* if the notebook hasn't been rebooted since it's
been turned on. This is 100% reproducible. If I just boot it, suspend it
and try to resume it doesn't wake up*, if I reboot in between, it works
like a charm.

* Black, unlit screen, caps-lock not responding, no blinking keyboard
status lights, magic sys-rq keys not responding, no log information
since suspend written to disk.

[Bug 894292] Re: Sandybridge suspend/resume regression on 3.0.0-12-generic/3.0.0-13-generic

2011-12-14 Thread Pascal Hartig
I marked this as invalid as it turned out that my results were not fully
reproducible. In fact, I had the exact them problems on -11 for no
apparent reason and I'm now running on -13 for 5 days without any
problems. Until I find a good way to enforce the lock-up, there's no
point in looking for the cause.

Thanks for looking into it, though!

[Bug 894292] Re: Sandybridge suspend/resume regression on 3.0.0-12-generic/3.0.0-13-generic

2011-11-29 Thread Pascal Hartig
Thanks for looking into my issue, Herton. I checked once again and I
found an unfortunate mistake I made. The -12 kernel does still suspend
and resume without problems, it's the -13 version that introduced the
resume issue.

I tried to boot with and without my custom kernel options and ran with
both

Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.22-generic 3.0.6
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-13-generic
root=UUID=d0588ced-58e6-4c9c-a5d8-f5d4e382de31 ro quiet splash
i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.semaphores=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1
i915_enable_fbc=1 pcie_aspm=force vt.handoff=7

and

Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.22-generic 3.0.6
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-13-generic
root=UUID=d0588ced-58e6-4c9c-a5d8-f5d4e382de31 ro

into the same problems. For -11 and -12 there was no difference between
using and not using the extra parameters.

[Bug 894292] [NEW] Sandybridge suspend/resume regression on 3.0.0-12-generic/3.0.0-13-generic

2011-11-24 Thread Pascal Hartig
Public bug reported:

I'm using a Samsung Series 9 notebook (900X3A). With 3.0.0-11-generic
the suspend/resume cycle works flawlessly, but starting with
3.0.0-12-generic the notebook does not wake up anymore. The screen stays
unlit and I can't toggle the Caps Lock or Fn Lock keys. There is no
flashing caps lock key, either.

pm_trace did not bring up anything interesting. 3:366:726 on a first and
3:22:878 on a second test. The first time it matched the loop6 device,
which was probably coincidental.

Manually downgrading to 3.0.0-11-generic works for me.

Is there a way to re-start the migration? I believe evolution crashed

[Bug 568288] Re: init: main process can respawn even when the job is stopping

2011-09-22 Thread Pascal Hartig
Apparently, this is the desired behavior. There is a test for this exact
case:

/* Check that we can handle the running process of a respawn job
 * exiting before the pre-stop process finishes. This should
 * mark the job to be respawned when the pre-stop script finishes
 * instead of making any state change.
 */
TEST_FEATURE ("with respawn of running while pre-stop process");

I don't understand how this is beneficial, though. Isn't pre-stop the
right way to stop a process that does not correctly reacts to signals?

[Bug 792359] Re: gdu-notification-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_start_main()

2011-06-16 Thread Pascal Hartig
I have never seen this crash again since that one time. I suppose it was
a race condition between two instances of the daemon running
simultaneously.

It might be safe to close this issue as it appears to only happen if a
gnome session/Xorg crash occurs prior to this.

[Bug 787469] Re: Broadcom BCM4357 WLAN does not work in Natty

2011-06-06 Thread Pascal Hartig
I have a Samsung 900X3A with a BCM4357. It works with the proprietary
driver, even though the connectivity is really bad. In my case the kill
switch is always on and pressing it doesn't change anything.

So this bug seems to be dependent on other hardware components, rather
than just the wifi controller.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 774978 ***

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After a fresh boot logging in with GDM crashes the X server right after
the gnome desktop has loaded. This seems to happen randomly and I can't
directly enforce it. Repeating the login procedure a few times helps. I
haven't encountered any X crashes except for those directly after the
login.

I'm using a Samsung Series 9 Notebook (Sandy Bridge). These are the
relevant lines from the Xorg logfile:

@vilmos DId you notice any change regarding the power consumption? I
read that the issue is related to power saving and I wonder if the fix
has any impact on that.

[Bug 780053] Re: system freezes randomly

2011-05-26 Thread Pascal Hartig
As the specific experience seems to differ by hardware: On my notebook
(Samsung 900X3A, Sandybridge GMA chip) it happens really frequently -
given an affected kernel. The freezes are only fractions of a seconds,
but clearly noticeable. 2 - 5 freezes per minute are about usual. Each
of them takes < 1s, according to latencytop and dmesg output.

[Bug 780053] Re: system freezes randomly

2011-05-23 Thread Pascal Hartig
I encounter this regularly on my Samsung 900X3A. However, it only
happens for kernel 2.6.38-8-generic and 2.6.39-020639-generic (2.6.39
stable from kernel-mainline-ppa), but not for vmlinuz-2.6.39-999-generic
(mainline build from 3rd of may). Apparently, a patch was either
reverted or a new bug was introduced in the period from the 3rd to the
19th of may.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-02-06 Thread Pascal Hartig
Definitely related to SSDs. Installed 10.04 and 10.10 on HDD and SDD.
Occured only on the latter, in vanilla setup.

** (gnome-settings-daemon:1941): WARNING **: You can only run one xsettings
manager at a time; exiting
** (gnome-settings-daemon:1941): WARNING **: Unable to start xsettings manager:
Could not initialize xsettings manager.

My workaround so far is to kill gsd and nautilus manually:

killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon && gnome-settings-daemon && killall
nautilus

I experience this as well and it does in fact happen quite frequently,
but at least in my case it's cause is pulseaudio, that crashes from time
