[Bug 1019575] [NEW] starting applications from workspace switcher is buggy
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 Installed: 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://si.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://si.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages >From expo mode (super+S), you should be able to start an application in the >workspace that is selected using the launcher bar, ie upper-left WS is >selected, you open nautilus in it by clicking on the nautilus icon on the bar, >then you select bottom-left WS and you should be able to open for example a >terminal in that one using the launcher bar icon. However, this process is very buggy, it sometimes works sometimes not: very often, when I select another WS with the mouse (WS is highlighted no problem) the window opens in the first WS anyway, it is repeatedly so with all applications on all WS's; but sometimes, it works fine and the window opens in the selected WS as it should... I could not identify a logic underneath this bug. It seems to happen less often when I switch selected WS using the keyboard arrows, but it does happen sometimes so too. Also, when "opening a window in the newly selected WS" does not work, the focus arrows next to launcher icons on unity bar show that we are still on the previously selected WS. So basically, it seems the workspace switching using left click or the keyboard arrows in expo mode sometimes works sometimes not, whereas the intended WS is definitely highlighted after the mouse click or arrow-key pressing... This is quite a usability bug. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019575 Title: starting applications from workspace switcher is buggy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1019575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1011572] [NEW] gnome-power-statistics dislpays a blank window
Public bug reported: When I open a gnome-power-statisics window (either by the icon on the top panel or by the terminal), the first time every thing works fine, but if I close the window and then reopen it (no matter how long after) the display is just blank, only the window frame and control are there but absolutely no content. I can try again as many time ever, no change. This may have to do with the fact, the process is always running in the background and the second time a window is asked for there is something wrong. If I artificially start another power statistics process, like in another account using sudo, then I can get the window to display content for the other times. (and this has nothing to do with the presence of xfce software that appear in the addition infos, it was happening before I installed them...) [Bug 998512] Re: Checking disk drives for errors at every boot
Well, I've tried mounting and then unmounting my filesystem from an earlier Ubuntu, and it stays "not clean" even unmounted. So, you can forget my attempt to diagnose the problem. I'll guess the concerned package is util-linux where we find fsck. ** Description changed: Ubuntu 12.04 - No idea about the package. + util-linux 2.20.1-1ubuntu3 At absolutely every boot, fsck starts a disk drive check, causing a long wait with the message checking disk drives for errors. No error is found though, and the preceding shutdown is done regularly. Whether you let the check finish or cancel it, it will invariably keep coming up in the next boot. I've tried tune2fs -c 0 -i 0 [My boot drive], no difference. However, if I check with tune2fs -l , I see the command has worked fine though. I checked my boot partition from a live boot session with tune2fs -l, without mounting the partition of course, and saw that the filesystem state was set "not clean", whereas it wasn't mounted, which I guess is not normal and may be the cause for the needless systematic disk drive check. So, could the problem be when 12.04 unmounts the boot partition at shutdown? Many have the same issue and you can have a look at this forum thread : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1973178 This seems hugely obvious however I can't see it's been reported... ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998512 Title: Checking disk drives for errors at every boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/998512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 994949] Re: When nautilus opens it is not the active window
A few more steps: I could reproduce the bug with firefox, Software center and with absolutely any application I tried, under a certain condition, and it's interesting. Try this: - launch firefox and do absolutely nothing with the window. - open nautilus : no bug, it works. - Close nautilus, back to firefox. - Click any dummy place on the firefox window - Open nautilus: here is the bug. Now - close nautilus again, back to firefox. - The focus is on the window but don't click anywhere. - Open nautilus: no bug, it works fine. You can repeat it as many time you want I guess with any application. Therefore, it looks like windows can either just have the focus, and then nautilus can get it too; or they can clutch at their focus if you've started clicking, interacting with them (not with their menus though), and then normal applications can grab the focus from each other anyway, but nautilus can't – maybe because it has a special role, being a process that is always running in the background and hence starting it only brings up a window but does not actually starts anything. In other words, it looks like there are two sorts of “having the focus” in Unity, and nautilus is not adapted to it. But it's only an intuition... As for the LibreOffice windows, they seem to directly pass on to the 2nd “clutching focus” without the need to interact with them. Hope this will help ! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994949 Title: When nautilus opens it is not the active window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/994949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995066] Re: Fails to reboot
Ok, sorry again... No, the bug report holds, but it was very unexpected. The bug happens only on battery power, but the behaviour of the reboot is weird even on AC power. So new description: On AC power: system shuts down, the fan seems to restart, after 1 or 2 seconds, power off, wait for about another 2 sec and the computer restarts. Ok. On battery power: all the same as on AC power but after the second 2-second's wait, won't restart, even after 10 or 30 seconds. (and the battery is fully charged) Note that nothing of this happens when I ask Ms Windows to reboot (in the same conditions) : it shuts down, there's no "false restart" pause and then actual restart as with the AC power version here above; the system reboots directly after shutdown, no wait, no abortion or fail. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995066 Title: Fails to reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995066/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

However, other OS's don't have any problem restarting the computer, I have Ms Windows in dual boot that does it perfectly, so it has to do with Ubuntu. The bug was at least already in 11.10 (thought it was too obvious to be worth reporting, but I was wrong, sorry!) Btw, I run an Acer One, if that can help. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995066 Title: Fails to reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995066/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995038] [NEW] Libre Office monopolizes focus in Unity
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 Compiz version : 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1 Launch any LibreOffice application. The focus is on it. Then, call nautilus: the focus isn't on nautilus (no title nor menu bar on the top panel), and the launcher bar shows the focus arrow on the LibreOffice icon. You may open as many nautilus windows as you like, as long as you do it by the unity bar, the focus is lost between nautilus and LibreOffice (no title, window control or menu bar related to LibreOffice either, when you get to that situation, plus you cannot display the LibreOffice window again by clicking the icon since the bar thinks the window is already in focus: so focus seems kind of lost...) Moreover, it appears that most of the time I close a LibreOffice window, the window disappears, but the focus arrow stays: no window anymore, no left arrow next to the icon, but remains the right arrow. However, this doesn't happen every time... ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995038 Title: Libre Office monopolizes focus in Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/995038/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 908241] [NEW] Unity doesn't know that libreoffice started
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.10 If I open a file with LibreOffice writer in a maximized window and I hurry to the area of exit, minimize, maximize buttons before the window appears, during the splash screen, then these buttons don't appear for the maximized window, nor does the launcher know that the application is running (no little arrow next to its icon and clicking on it opens a new window). Yet the program's responding. And nautilus know it's open (if I re-double-click the file, brings the window correctly) So it should concern unity? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908241 Title: Unity doesn't know that libreoffice started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/908241/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
