[Bug 700574] [NEW] wl module (5.100.82.38) fails to compile on 2.6.37-12

2011-01-08 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

WL module fails to compile, apparently new kernel (2.6.37) no longer has
init_MUTEX -function. Network stops working once one puts computer into
hibernation, suspend or reboots.
Workaround is to replace init_MUTEX(wl-sem); with sema_init(wl-sem,
1);, then depmod and modprobe wl.

[Bug 690755] Re: poor graphics performance with nvidia-current in maverick

2010-12-23 Thread Pasi Savolainen
I also failed to get VDPAU acceleration on 10.10. The fix was to create
a link to /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so in /usr/lib
(it already existed in /usr/lib32) like so:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so
/usr/lib/libvdpau_nvidia.so

After this, both xbmc (Dharma) and mplayer -vo vdpau seemed to use vdpau OK.
Prior to fix, the error was: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

AFAIK this affects 64bit systems only.

[Bug 582349] [NEW] stops updating after suspend

2010-05-18 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber stops updating the streams (at least facebook) after machine has gone
through poweron-suspend-resume -cycle.
Seems to work nicely on first cold boot, then I suspend machine, resume and it
will show old messages but will not fetch new.

Refresh does not do anything, CloseWindow and Quit don't work either. Edit
Accounts/Preferences bring up their dialogs as did the reportbug. Window closes
with the [X] of window decoration. Indicator applet shows that I'm offline (X),
-bubble.
After starting from Applications menu, stream is updated again.

[Bug 257045] Re: 0.7 Nokia E71 via USB not detected

2010-04-12 Thread Pasi Savolainen
This seems to have resurfaced in Lucid. When I connect my E71 (Bus 005
Device 020: ID 0421:00ab Nokia Mobile Phones E71 (PC Suite mode)) or
(0421:00aa, mass storage mode). NM will not recognize it.

If I modprobe cdc_acm module, then NM recognizes and uses the 3G
connection. This works across suspends/hibernates, but not reboots
(obviously).

It seems hal-info is dead now, but I don't know which package this
should be reported against.

Thanks.

[Bug 438275] [NEW] ugly icon when not using empathy

2009-09-28 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

When not using empathy (ie. it's not running) the icon is quite unattractive
gray bubble with minus in there.
This could be something else, functional in other way. The icon also does not
give any indication that it could be used to suspend/hibernate computer, which
is the most used functionality (at least for me).
I'd suggest to use the AboutMe avatar + some overlay that there is no
connection etc.

2009-09-28 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Sorry, can't see how this is a human-theme problem (bug originally filed
against indicator-applet) since the icon from human-theme semantically
means correct thing but indicator-applet uses it in wrong/misleading
context. So I oppose switching of package.

[Bug 342889] [NEW] keeps showing openoffice.org entries

2009-03-14 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-listchanges

apt-listchanges keeps showing changelog entries for openoffice.org even though
they've been shown many times now.
Oldest visible change is openoffice.org2 (1.9.66-0ubuntu1) hoary; urgency=low
and latest openoffice.org (1:3.0.1-5ubuntu2) jaunty; urgency=low so it spams
badly.

There are also some entries with package name openoffice.org2 inbetween.

There are entries downto openoffice (0.638c-1) unstable; urgency=low
in /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-core/changelog.Debian.gz (though it's
not necessarily that package that got updated).

[Bug 282164] [NEW] Can't open a binary file

2008-10-12 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

gedit does not allow to open binary files (even selecting iso8859-1
encoding fails, probably because of '0'/NULL characters).

An option to show it as read-only (possibly with 'hd/bsdmainutils'
transform) should be offered.

Reasoning: dropping down to terminal while working through a HD full of
old files is not nice. And refusing to show file contents just because
some of the bytes are a bit funky is not nice either.

[Bug 147209] Re: app opened thru Open With becomes default for filetype

Hi,
I think following applies here:

I opened a folder via Open With and then kdirstat, after this when I tried
opening Places-HomeFolder it opened it with kdirstat.
Thats highly undesirable. This was corrected by opening a folder open
with-nautilus.

This is on intrepid beta1 + some updated packages from repositories.

2008-05-12 Thread Pasi Savolainen
I get freeze after Suspending console(s) on 2.6.24-17.31, but not on -16.30
Both start and seem to hibernate/suspend just fine (power off), but resuming
fails.
Suspending consoles is seen when resuming from hibernate. Resuming from
suspend shows black screen and monitor blinks yellow light instead of green
(ie. graphics card does not have active output).

Hardware: Intel Q6600, nvidia graphics (w/proprietary driver), 4G.

[Bug 162850] strftime(3) segfaults when passed NULL as tm

2007-11-15 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

strftime will cause segmentation fault when passed 0 or NULL as last parameter
(struct tm *tm).
Tested on dapper and gutsy with following:
- test.c -
// gcc -Wall test.c -o strftime.test  ./strftime.test
#include stdio.h
#include time.h
int main(void) {
char temp[80] = ;
printf(formatting\n);
strftime(temp, 80, Now is %c, NULL);
printf(done\n);
printf(temp);
return 0;
}
- -
Output:
- -
formatting
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
- -

The competing (Visual Studio 2005) implementation will fail an assertion on
this, but will continue execution with Now is -string in temp.
Also, glib will segfault even without any % -directives in formatting string.

[Bug 149764] Re: slow gtk popup menus with gtk dual head

2007-11-02 Thread Pasi Savolainen
can confirm. Running 7200GS with nvidia_new, CRT + TV-out, this bug manifests.
Workaround suggested in forums works for me (applied from terminal on already
running X):
- -
compiz --replace --only-current-screen
gtk-window-decorator --replace
- -

[Bug 157191] please enable CONFIG_TASKSTATS, especially CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING

2007-10-25 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Linux kernel has very useful task IO information (reflected into /proc/self/io
and other places) similar to what 'vmstat' gives.
It needs that in kernel configuration CONFIG_TASKSTATS and
CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING are enabled.
In current gutsy (2.6.22.14.21) kernel they are not enabled.

There is also very handy 'iotop.py' program available at
http://guichaz.free.fr/misc/

[Bug 109320] Re: evms blocks access to disk devices

2007-06-25 Thread Pasi Savolainen
For the duplicate bug(s) refugees:
Removing all packages with evms in their name solved booting problem for me.
I also ran 'update-initramfs -u', but don't know if that was really necessary.

[Bug 119915] Re: linux-image-2.6.22 causes udevd to eat-up CPU

2007-06-11 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Can confirm.
I have this same on a SMP 2xAthlon machine. It was so bad that I gave up on
booting and booted back into 2.6.20 series.
I have a LVM partition on a disk, nothing fancy, single partition there.
This is feisty fully dist-upgraded to current gutsy.

[Bug 118845] Re: DMA not activated on ThinkPad 600E

2007-06-05 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Workaround:
- create file /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/thepiix with contents
of what is attached to this message.
- run 'update-initramfs -u'
- when booting append to kernel parameter line 'thepiix root=/dev/hda1'

now DMA will be enabled automatically by kernel.

[Bug 109429] Re: evince does not let me save a copy of file

2007-05-16 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Upstream says that this is because of document placed restrictions, but there
is a gconf key (/apps/evince/override_restrictions) which overrides those.
It worked for me.
Could this be made on-by-default?
I honestly can't think of what kind of ui could make uncopyability clear (apart
of popping up a message dialog in answer to 'saveas').

[Bug 109429] evince does not let me save a copy of file

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

loaded from /tmp or not (that's where firefox put it).

FWIW, the url was this

[Bug 78348] 'backup' -files are included in initrd

2007-01-07 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

I was recently bitten by #76872, and did this fix:
 BenC pitti: I bet it's initramfs-tools
 BenC pitti: Edit: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/udev_helper
 BenC comment out the modprobe for ide-generic at the end, and run sudo
 update-initramfs -u

And my editor (jed) left a
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/udev_helper~ there. Which
update-initramfs apparently included in initrd.
(ie. until I removed it 2.6.20-4-generic would not boot, and yes I did run
update-initramfs every time).

So my request is to please don't include *~ and #*# (emacs temporary) in
initrd.
