[Bug 1876350] Re: python-pylibacl-doc package exists but not python-pylibacl

2020-11-29 Thread Patola
Ah. Dont worry with me. Due to bigoted attitudes like these, I already
migrated away to Arch from Ubuntu. In Arch, I can still fully use sc-
controller with pylibacl (which is required for newer games that don't
run on 18.04 anymore like Planetary Annihilation Titans) or even choose
later versions. I still dual-boot with Ubuntu 20.04 because I support
lots of novice users on group chats in Telegram, but your advice tells
me that maybe I should have dropped that too.

[Bug 1876350] Re: python-pylibacl-doc package exists but not python-pylibacl

2020-11-29 Thread Patola
No, this is not a support question. Did you even read the description?
The python2 version is needed by sc-controller. This is not a question
about nomenclature, it's about a missing requisite package for an
important application.

[Bug 1890815] Re: vainfo requires a nvidia sofile not in repositories

2020-09-18 Thread Patola
And this bug is left unattended for 42 days now. Is this a new record or
something? Congratulations for the incompetence in dealing even with the
most basic and easy to fix bugs, Canonical. Just for the sake of it, I
opened a bug in Arch Linux stating the same thing, even referencing this
one. The result? Assigned and closed with the solution in less than one
hour and a half. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/67932

Learn how to deal with bugs, Canonical. You don't just let them
lingering around.

2020-09-18 Thread Patola
For anyone looking at this bug report, if you use debian's packages it
works. It's vdpau-va-driver:

64 bits:
http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/pool/main/v/vdpau-video/vdpau-va-driver_0.7.4-7_amd64.deb

32 bits:
http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/pool/main/v/vdpau-video/vdpau-va-driver_0.7.4-7_i386.deb

Install both. Then run vainfo.

[Bug 1890815] [NEW] vainfo requires a nvidia sofile not in repositories

2020-08-07 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

$ vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 1.7.0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so
libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1

ls: cannot access '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so': No such
file or directory
$ apt-file search nvidia_drv_video.so
$

The bug report interface does not allow me to say it's in the 'vainfo'
package, so I had to use what ubuntu-bug made me use, libva-utils.

[Bug 1884100] [NEW] Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac fails in linux-firmware 1.187

2020-06-18 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

This bug is done for a friend. I do talk to him occasionally and he
sends me data. As he's a newbie, he doesn't know how to create a proper
bug report.

Basically, his notebook has the Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac
wireless network adapter (rev 32). He had Ubuntu 19.10 and it worked. He
updated to 20.04 and it stopped working. He installed 20.04 from scratch
and it did not work.

20.04's linux-firmware is 1.187. This version does not work for Qualcomm
Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac.

I asked him to download 19.10's linux-firmware package from the ubuntu
repositories, which is at 1.183. After he installed, apt-marked hold the
package so that it would not be upgrade, and rebooted, his wifi worked.

I saw the other bug reports regarding this adapter but they are old, the
newer one has expired and it seems to be related to the unsigned kernel.

[Bug 1882121] [NEW] The ORA importer/exporter is not in the package anymore

2020-06-04 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

System information:
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS - 32 GB RAM - Ryzen 7 2700
package gimp-plugin-registry=9.20180625ubuntu2 from the universe repository
it should have the OpenRaster (.ORA files from MyPaint) importer/exporter:

[19:37] [9019] [patola@risadinha patola]% apt-cache show gimp-plugin-registry |
grep -A 3 -B 3 -i openraster
   * lqr (0.7.1): Liquid Rescale
Content-aware rescaling. Keeps the features of the image while
 rescaling along a single direction.
   * openraster (20110529-1d32622): OpenRaster load/save handler
OpenRaster is an effort by the Create project[1] to offer a standardized
and open interchange format for raster-based applications. This plugin
allows one to load and save files in the OpenRaster format.
   * planet-render (1-2): Planet Render
Creates a planet. Color, size and sun orientation
 can be set.

But it doesn't, directory /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins doesn't have it:
[19:37] [9021] [patola@risadinha patola]% dpkg -L gimp-plugin-registry | grep
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

The save version of gimp 2.10.18-1 in snap format has this plugin working
correctly.
Of course, the openraster importer/export is also not in gimp=2.10.18-1 deb.

[Bug 1860101] [NEW] smc (Secret Maryo Chronicles) is not on Bionic's repositories anymore

2020-01-17 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Prior to Ubuntu 18.04 the game Secret Maryo Chronicles was on the
repositories. Suddenly it isn't anymore, no justification. The last bug

repositories.

[Bug 1849260] [NEW] libvulkan-dev package doesn't have vk_layer_dispatch_table.h

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with latest patches as of Oct 22, 2019.

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release:18.04

Using ppa:graphics-drivers

packages libvulkan-dev:amd64=1.1.114.0-1~gpu18.04.1 and libvulkan-
dev:i386=1.1.114.0-1~gpu18.04.1from PPA graphics-drivers do not have
/usr/include/vulkan/vk_layer_dispatch_table.h necessary for compilation
of some vulkan programs (e.g. https://github.com/DadSchoorse/vkBasalt).
Also they have .so binary files (e.g. libVkLayer_core_validation.so)

Sorry for that. I was trying a few things to get rid of that problem and I

I copied it elsewhere and I reinstated the original package version. This is

[Bug 1775554] [NEW] mpv zsh completion hangs with specially crafter dirnames

2018-06-07 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

This is regarding /usr/share/zsh/vendor-completions/_mpv which is in the
package "mpv".

If you make a dirname with lots of dots and open bracket and close
bracket, like:

/tmp/XXX.X.X.X.X.X.XX.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.XX-X.X.X.X.X.X.X[X]

Put some media files inside, and try to autocomplete with:

mpv
/tmp/XXX.X.X.X.X.X.XX.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.XX-X.X.X.X.X.X.X\[X\]/

zsh gets into a loop that depending on the disk might take dozens of
minutes or hours to complete. In a network file system it might
practically hangs forever. Using zsh -xv to check the completion I see
that the completion has increasingly bigger hangs after this part
repeats:

+compadd:9>
PREFIX='(#a20)/tmp/XXX.X.X.X.X.X.XX.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.X.XX-X.X.X.X.X.X.X\[X\]/'
+compadd:12> ((  1 && 5  ))
+compadd:13> _correct_expl[_correct_group]=-J
+compadd:15> compadd -J corrections -X '- corrections - (errors 20})' -S '' -J
urls -X '- URL -' cdda:// rtmp:// rtsp:// https:// mms:// mmst:// mmshttp://
rtp:// httpproxy:// hls:// rtmpe:// rtmps:// rtmpt:// rtmpte:// rtmpts://
srtp:// data:// lavf:// ffmpeg:// udp:// ftp:// tcp:// tls:// unix:// sftp://
md5:// concat:// avdevice:// av:// dvb:// smb:// file:// dvdread:// file://
dvd:// dvdnav:// file:// bd:// br:// bluray:// bdnav:// brnav:// bluraynav://
memory:// hex:// null:// mf:// edl:// rar:// file:// fd:// fdclose://

The delay to get to the next part seems to increase exponentially. I am
attaching an excerpt of the zsh -xv run. A similar symptom happens with
mplayer but it does not take as long - a couple minutes instead of more
than half an hour. After it finishes, it doesn't match any media file,
although there are mkv files in there: No matches for: `video file',
`media file', `URL', `URL prefix', or `corrections'

This does not seem to occur with any other programs, media or otherwise.
For media players I tried ffmpeg kmplayer totem xine avconv avplay.

[Bug 1766555] Re: openscad package missing from 18.04

2018-06-03 Thread Patola
OpenSCAD is utterly important for my work. It was very irresponsible
that the Ubuntu maintainers took if off the distribution's official
repositories just because it wasn't compiling in a platform Ubuntu
doesn't even have builds for.

Thanks, mr. Schäfer for the workaround.

[Bug 1768995] Re: The "Unlock" button of user administration asks for wrong user

2018-05-03 Thread Patola
Adding to a sudo-enabled group is not enough?
Since /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow do not have 'account type' fields, what does
it mean to be an administrator? Belong to the admin group? adm? sudo?
Why did gnome-control-center asked specifically for patola's password? What if
there were two people with 'administrator' types? Should it instead ask for the
root password then?

[Bug 1768995] [NEW] The "Unlock" button of user administration asks for wrong user

2018-05-03 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

I have just installed a quite vanilla Ubuntu 18.04 setup with just 4
users: patola, razgriz, ayrton, felipe. The first user, uid 1000, was
patola. As patola, I also have done the adduser and passwd for them.
Then razgriz logged in to the machine (he's on the procer3d group). When
he tried to go to control center, details, users, and he clicked on the
"Unlock" button, the dialog asked for patola's password, not his
password

I don't know if the sudoers file has any impact on it, but here it is:

#
# This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root.
#
# Please consider adding local content in /etc/sudoers.d/ instead of
# directly modifying this file.
#
# See the man page for details on how to write a sudoers file.
#

Defaultsmail_badpass

# Allow members of group sudo to execute any command

=
expected behaviour: gnome-control-center should ask for razgriz' password, he
was the one logged in (patola was not at the time). Instead, it asked for
patola's password.

[Bug 1729368] [NEW] [REGRESSION] update-manager no longer informs space needed and filesystem

2017-11-01 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from 17.04 to 17.10:

Previous installations of Ubuntu would eventually fail due to lack of
space in any one of the filesystems, but at least update-manager and/or
do-release-upgrade told me which filesystem was lacking the space and
how much it needed, so I could do an online extend since I'm using LVM.

The newer update-manager doesn't do that, even in the terminal output,
and even by do-release-upgrade. It just tells me:

I understand that Ubuntu is geared towards the novice user, but hiding
this kind of information is not useful to him/her too. I eventually
found out that the logs had a cryptically formatted space requirement
output:

[Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10

2017-07-08 Thread Patola
Sorry for taking so long. I am now using kernel 4.10.0-26-lowlatency and
the module works correctly, no problems at all. I think this issue can
be closed.

[Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10

2017-05-04 Thread Patola
@kaihengfeng no, definitely not. As I said, I take the USB-ethernet
dongle off and insert another, from another brand, and it works
flawlessly. Besides, I have turned off networkmanager and noticed that
even with ifupdown and/or manually raising the interface, it refuses to
work. It seem that at the time of module loading, some firmware
initialization or something like that is not happening. In the kernel
version prior to 4.10 (4.8, 3.3 etc.), when the module was loaded, a
light appeared on the dongle to show activity. Now it doesn't.

[Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10

2017-05-03 Thread Patola
Ok. I installed kernel 4.11 from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11-rc8/

These packages:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11-rc8/linux-headers-4.11.0-041100rc8_4.11.0-041100rc8.201704232131_all.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11-rc8/linux-headers-4.11.0-041100rc8-generic_4.11.0-041100rc8.201704232131_amd64.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11-rc8/linux-image-4.11.0-041100rc8-generic_4.11.0-041100rc8.201704232131_amd64.deb

Booted into 4.11, confirmed it was 4.11, the adapter was plugged. Same
thing: it wouldn't show a link. Changed to the other adapter, and it
worked instantly and got an IP Address.

But now I got some more data for the non-working AX88772 adapter:

[Bug 1688081] Re: USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10

2017-05-03 Thread Patola
Changed status to confirmed as per apport instructions. However, I had
to use apport without the non-working adapter plugged in (another one in
its place), so the hardware information would be wrong. For information,
I plugged the working adapter (Realtek USB 10/100/1000 LAN) four times,
and it worked these four times; the same goes for the non-working
adapter (ASIX AX88x72A)

I have an USB-Ethernet dongle ASIX AX88772 USB 2.0 Ethernet, which uses
the asix.ko module. I just updated from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10 then
  17.04. When I updated to 17.04 it just stopped initializing the dongle;
in ethtool and mii-tool it shows no link detected, although it is
connected and works in dual-booted Windows. I ruled out networkmanager
idiosyncrasies of "managed" and "not managed" because I configured it
both ways and tried also with ifupdown and directly with ifconfig up and
dhclient. And then I changed the model to another ethernet USB adapter
  and it worked.

[Bug 1225612] Re: Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2016-12-30 Thread Patola
@dino99

That is _one_ of the packages. After years. Wings3d is also functional
again, happily. These two improvements are very recent. But the others
are still lacking. No cura, and it has even changed versions (and it has
two repositories, stable and master, from @thopiekar). Pronterface from
the repositories is broken, although the github version works ok. No
octoprint and no repetier server - repetier _host_ went the closed-
source way so I do not think it is eligible anymore.

[Bug 1225612] Re: Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2016-11-10 Thread Patola
This bug report is now 3 years old, and it was a simpe request for
packaging of already existing software. No action was done, no PPA was
integrated, no readily available package was added to the distribution.
Meanwhile, Microsoft massively invested in 3D-printing-related stuff,
released lots of documentation and educational videos about 3D printing,
manufactured a comprehensive, easy and useful 3D printing framework with
lots of necessary libraries, helped draft and standardize the 3d-
printing file format 3MF and even converted their paint software to 3D
modelling and printing.

Should I shout "disappointed" or it is clear enough? I and others take a
lot of effort to get Ubuntu where it should be for people to use it in
"real life" but Canonical completely neglects market directions, users'
expectations and practical usage. All the effort, including in following
the correct path of opening a bug report, was for nothing. You cannot do
that and at the same time say users should report bugs if you do not
give any attention to them. It might be useful internally, but for me,
as an user trying to solve a problem, it is next to useless. That is not
my first bug report to go unattended for a long time, but it is the most
egregious, because it highlights a big gap in Ubuntu, it is quite easy
to initially amend and it involved a really bad attitude from canonical
staff.

Also: I tried exiting yakuake (from its menu, and ensuring it wasn't running)
and calling it again with some changed environment variables.
first export QT_IM_MODULE=xim
then export QT_IM_MODULE=cedilla

These do not seem to have any effect.

[Bug 1636393] [NEW] yakuake does not respect my keyboard settings anymore

2016-10-25 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

I don't know what happened, but for years I have a setup with two
keyboard settings: English (international AltGr dead keys) and English
(US, international with dead keys). They worked OK in yakuake. In the
last few days, however, an update likely broke this keyboard setup in
yakuake. All the environment variables are the same as before, but
suddenly yakuake will not accept my Alt-Gr modifier key to accentuate
letters. I am using yakuake-2.9.9-3 and reverted temporarily to
yakuake-2.9.9-2 to see if it would solve the issue, but it didn't. So it
might be due to an update in another component of KDE or QT, not
necessarily yakuake. Accents work OK in Konsole though, AFAIK yakuake is
the only application affected by this.

[Bug 1575957] Re: huion tablet is not recognized anymore in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-05 Thread Patola
Joseph Salisbury the tablet is already working correctly now. The only
problem was that since I upgraded from Ubuntu 15.10 the digimend-dkms
package (which is not in the xenial repositores - seems to have been
integrated in the kernel) remained. Once I removed this package and
rebooted, the correct modules were loaded and the tablet worked as it
should. It is not a driver issue, it is a packaging issue, the package
needs a "Conflicts: digimend-dkms"

[Bug 1575957] Re: huion tablet is not recognized anymore in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-04-27 Thread Patola
I just noticed that although the tablet does not work with the module
here:

/lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/updates/dkms/hid-uclogic.ko

It *DID* work when I manually removed hid_uclogic (rmmod) from memory
and insmodded /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-
uclogic.ko

New xinput list output:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ 2.4G Wireless Optical Mouse id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ HUION PenTablet Pen stylusid=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ HUION PenTablet Mouse id=16 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ HUION PenTablet Consumer Control id=17 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]

↳ HUION PenTablet Keyboard id=14 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HUION PenTablet System Controlid=15 [slave keyboard (3)]

Now the tablet responds.

The file /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/updates/dkms/hid-uclogic.ko was
installed by the digimend-dkms package from Ubuntu 15.10. Removing this
package fixed that. So I guess a "Conflicts:" tag for the 4.4.0 kernel
package is in place to prevent digimend-dkms from being installed (was
it integrated to the kernel?)

Even xsetwacom now responds:
[22:28] [6961] [patola@ovo patola]% xsetwacom --list devices
HUION PenTablet Pen stylus id: 13 type: STYLUS

[Bug 1575957] [NEW] huion tablet is not recognized anymore in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-04-27 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Gaomon 860T tablet was being used normally and also recognized
automatically in Ubuntu 15.10. However, when I did the upgrade to 16.04
it just stopped being recognized. The USB devices show in dmesg and the
tablet also works normally in the dual-boot windows, also the modules
seem to be loaded, the digimend-dkms package is installed, but the
device(s) simply do not show up at all, as if the tablet was not plugged
in.

dmesg| grep huion shows this:
[ 152.462541] usb 2-1.2.1: Manufacturer: HUION

however, nowhere the devices are being created:
[19:52] [6904] [patola@ovo patola]% xinput list

Compare with the display of xinput list when the tablet worked (in a

[Bug 1562387] Re: digimend / wacom drivers do not recognize chinese clone

2016-04-09 Thread Patola
Jason,

The edits on 10-evdev.conf are not unnecessary. If general-purpose
drivers are loaded before the huion drivers, the huion drivers are not
loaded. The catch-all rule in 10-evdev.conf prevents the correct drivers
from being loaded.

I'll see if I file a bug report in linuxwacom to see if they can
integrate the huion entries. Thank you.

[Bug 1562387] Re: digimend / wacom drivers do not recognize chinese clone

2016-03-26 Thread Patola
However, I was able to get progress on this issue: now xsetwacom works.
What was happening is that the first dbus entry for evdev had a catchall
rule for tablets which assigned evdev drivers to the tablet before the
wacom drivers would have a chance.

So I editted:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf

and commented the catchall tablet rules and then added
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-huion.conf

With these contents:
# Huion tablets
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Huion class"
MatchProduct "HUION"
MatchIsTablet "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "wacom"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Huion buttons"
MatchProduct "HUION"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Huion scroll"
MatchProduct "HUION"
MatchIsPointer "off"
MatchIsKeyboard "off"
MatchIsTouchpad "off"
MatchIsTablet "off"
MatchIsTouchscreen "off"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection

And now the tablet is recognized by xsetwacom:
[17:31] [4961] [patola@trololo patola]% xsetwacom --list

HUION PenTablet Pen stylus id: 10 type: STYLUS
HUION PenTablet Pad pad id: 11 type: PAD

However, the System Settings Wacom entry still does not recognize it,
"No tablet detected". I guess I will have to do it manually in the
meanwhile?

BTW, this is issue #26 from digimend drivers:
https://github.com/DIGImend/digimend-kernel-drivers/issues/26

So there IS a bug to be fixed in xserver-xorg-core:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf and huion configuration.

[Bug 1562387] [NEW] digimend / wacom drivers do not recognize chinese clone

2016-03-26 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

I have a chinese Gaomon 860T tablet, it is a clone of a Huion H610
tablet which in turn should be supported by digimend drivers (which are
installed and loaded). However, it is only partially recognized as such
- xsetwacom does not recognize, but libwacom-list-local-devices does,
also xinput list correctly lists them but the wacom tablet entry in
system settings says "No tablet detected".

I am left-handed and I need the system settings wacom configuration to
work so that I can use the tablet as left-handed tablet. This is a
showstopper for me and I need that working to do my job.

Here are the commands I used. I am using stock digimend-dkms from Ubuntu
repository, which seems to be up-to-date with digimend github:

[Bug 1562244] [NEW] [needs-packaging] papagayo

2016-03-25 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Papagayo is an open-surce lip-synching animation package that has a
plugin for blender and can export files to synfig-studio.

The latest version of papagayo is 2.0b1, but it seems it still does not
compile cleanly for Linux: https://github.com/LostMoho/Papagayo

However, the 1.2 version is available even with a deb package:
http://morevnaproject.org/papagayo/

This page has further detail on what papagayo is: http://lostmarble.com
/papagayo-home/

It doesn't work in Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit though. I tried to run it and had
the following error:

wx._core.PyAssertionError: C++ assertion "m_window" failed at
../src/gtk/dcclient.cpp(2043) in DoGetSize(): GetSize() doesn't work
without window

There are many tutorial for it in youtube and with the upcoming releaze of the
Toonz package as open-source we should see more demand for animation on ubuntu
And example of tutorial is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y0Ox0cnlL4

Please hurry. This is important.

[Bug 1556445] Re: netgen does not start anymore, X error

2016-03-12 Thread Patola
I was able to compile and run netgen 6.0 beta when I noticed it tried to
compile with -lTogl1.7 which does not match the library name
/usr/lib/libTogl.so.1.7. I soft-linked /usr/lib/libTogl1.7.so to the
library and compilation worked. So this whole issue might have to do
with naming the library... Maybe an ld.so.conf.d entry for it would
solve the issue?

[Bug 1556445] Re: netgen does not start anymore, X error

2016-03-12 Thread Patola
I found a little more information about this. I checkinstalled a more
recent version of netgen (properly sed'ing tcl8.6 and tk8.6 to tcl8.5
and tk8.5 in all the Makefiles to prevent stumbling into another bug
related to wrong symbols in linkedition) and found the same problem.
Alas, it is reported in debian, which even suggest a fix in Ubuntu 15.10
(didn't work for me tough):

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=782361

It is also reported in netgen itself (sourceforge but tracker):

This bug has one year and a half and has not been resolved? Oh come on,
Canonical, at least pull the thing off the repositories. Using Ubuntu
15.10 amd64 and I can't believe how this bug could still exist.

For people who do not have a kinect to test or understand, I think this
explains it well enough:

http://robotica.unileon.es/mediawiki/index.php/PCL/OpenNI_tutorial_1:_Installing_and_testing

"PrimeSense drivers: they were released as open source after the the
OpenNI project was created, along with the motion tracking middleware,
NITE, and the SDK. NI stands for Natural Interaction, and the project
tried to enforce a common standard for human input using Kinect-like
sensors. These official drivers are used by ROS (the Robot Operating
System, a massive collection of libraries and tools for robotic
researchers) and PCL (the Point Cloud Library, with everything needed
for 3D point cloud processing). Sadly, version 2.0 of the OpenNI SDK
dropped support for Kinect on Linux due to licensing issues, so for now
PCL relies on legacy 1.x versions. Also, Apple bought PrimeSense on
November 2013, and on April 2014 OpenNI's webpage was closed. The source
is now being maintained by a third party."

Please solve this issue.

2015-12-02 Thread Patola
Just an info to whoever is subscribed to this bug: this problem does not
occur on the kdenlive version of ppa:vpinon/kdenlive-testing - and it
also has not crashed yet as I have tested, whilst the official ubuntu
wily version crashes almost every time I am doing or selecting a title
clip (shame on you, canonical! This software should not be unstable, you
should be more diligent on ensuring stability for your users; the fact
that a voluntary-compiled 'testing' version of the same software works
better than yours is testimonial to your sloppy testing procedure. Or
maybe you are bad in getting feedback from your users, my own bug
requests are left unattended for a long period).

[Bug 1225612] Re: Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2014-08-01 Thread Patola
Repetier Host is no longer open-source. It's free as in free beer. We
are losing options...

Meanwhile the whole 3D printing community is thriving and Ubuntu with
its focus on mobile has completely lost the train and does not seem too
eager to catch it...

[Bug 1225612] Re: Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2013-12-09 Thread Patola
The most important package is without doubt Repetier Host; it is both a
very competent 3D printer controller, a competent slicer frontend and a
stunning 3D visualization software. However, due to some very recent
perl modules requirements for its slic3r dependence, it might be a
little awkward to make it work (lots of new perl modules would have to
be packaged too).

So the second most important unpackaged software would be the Cura
software package, I think. And it does not seem specially difficult to
do, would take just a few modifications to the package offered by their
developer.

replicatorg and repsnapper are old packages which are not very used
anymore. I think they are very low priority.

It might also be wise to package pronterface. Although sort of a simple
3D printer controller, it has a competent interface for advanced 3d
printing commands, and is certainly required by savvy people.

OpenSCAD version needs updating. Importing from its PPA would be great.

So, in short:
- Repetier Host, complicated to package, but important; packaging it will
require packaging of slic3r too.
- Cura, easy to (re)package, second most important;
- pronterface, also important to advanced users and it's already in a PPA, very
easy to import to mainstream ubuntu.
- openscad could benefit from a newer version, which is in the PPA.

[Bug 1225612] [NEW] Lack of packaged 3D Printing Software

2013-09-15 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Although Ubuntu is a desktop Linux distribution, it is much behind other
distributions regarding 3d printing support.
And that is inadmissible, because 3d printing, hardware-wise, is very simple:
commands sent to a 115200 serial-via-USB connection. The big gap here are the
programs that comprise the chain leading to these commands. E.g.:

* 3d-modelling software: Ubuntu is sort of ok here:
  - blender is on the repositories;
  - meshlab is on the repositories;
  - openscad is on the repositories and there is also a PPA for it:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/chrysn/openscad/ubuntu/
  - but a very useful program, wings3d, is currently uninstallable (depends on
erlang-wx = 1:15.b.1-dfsg which is not installable) - Bug #1185616

* 3D printer control software:
  - the most popular software is repetierhost, an open-source MIT-licensed
software (written in mono) which has a nice download page at
http://www.repetier.com/download/ and nice instructions for installing it in
Ubuntu. It also comes with the object slicer named slic3r, another
open-source software - GPL this time. The most troublesome part of its
installation is that it installs a bunch of perl modules, some of them are not
yet packaged in Ubuntu.
  - repsnapper (open-source), which is sort of ok but not the best
application, is on the repositories;
  - replicatorg (open-source) has a needs packaging bug report open, Bug
#829789
  - cura (open-source), a fantastic application with its own very fast slicer,
is not packaged, and in their page they even offer a packaged download:
http://daid.github.com/Cura/ - this one is very easy to add to Ubuntu, it has
few compiling requisites (mostly wx).
  - pronterface (open-source, formerly printrun): has a packaged version on a
PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/richi-paraeasy/ppa/ubuntu/

* slicer software:
  - as said, slic3r, the most popular slicer, comes with repetierhost, but it
might be needed by other control software and it also works standalone; it has
its own site, with linux downloads - http://slic3r.org/download - and it is
written in C++ and perl (this is why repetierhost needs a bunch of perl
modules). It has a separate elaborate building page for ubuntu:
https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/wiki/Running-Slic3r-from-git-on-GNU-Linux
  - kisslicer (PROPRIETARY!!) has linux versions too:
http://kisslicer.com/download.html. As it is proprietary, it is most likely
unappropriate for packaging. Its use forbids reverse engineering.

* Bonus: server-side 3D printer control software
 - repetier server, a quality web 3d printing server:
http://www.repetier.com/repetier-server-download/
 - octoprint, an awesome, feature-packaged but still low footprint 3d printing
server that works even on the raspberry pi: http://octoprint.org/ - the
raspberry pi is better server by a packaged solution called octopi:
http://guysoft.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/octopi/
  - Doboz-Web: http://reprap.org/wiki/Doboz-Web

A very good inspiration for Ubuntu support for 3D printing would be the
Fedora 3D printing page:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/3D_Printing

[Bug 1081848] [NEW] Guake should not autostart in KDE

2012-11-21 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

Even though Guake has X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false in its
/etc/xdg/autostart desktop file, it starts automatically in KDE. I do
not know if it is a failure of Guake or anything else; but it was sort
of fixed by adding NotShowIn=KDE to its desktop file.

[Bug 1077531] [NEW] debhelper lacks example rules files

2012-11-10 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

I was going through a deb package building tutorial at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhoRyd2CEVs and it used Ubuntu. It
mentions a few example rules files under
/usr/share/doc/debhelper/examples: rules.multi, rules.multi2, rules.arch
and rules.indep. I noticed that the current Ubuntu debhelper package
only has rules.tiny under this directory.

I search through apt-file and tried to locate such examples in many
other packages but I was unsuccessful. I browsed through the changelog
of debhelper to see if there was any notice of removal of these files
but also could not find it.

I was able to find the files in the internet here:
http://www.fifi.org/doc/debhelper/examples/

Thus I think that the non-inclusion of these files might be a bug.

[Bug 988925] Re: util-linux no longer provides ddate

2012-07-14 Thread Patola
make install? COME ON! This is too reckless. What's the point in having
a system with such a sophisticated package management if you try to opt
out of it by scattering files around the filesystem? You should be
ashamed.

This is a more responsible recipe (run as root):

$ sudo su -
# apt-get source util-linux
# sed -i 's/2.20.1-1ubuntu3/2.20.1-2/' util-linux-2.20.1/debian/changelog ; sed
-i 's/--enable-raw --enable-rdev --enable-partx/--enable-ddate --enable-raw
--enable-rdev --enable-partx/' util-linux-2.20.1/debian/rules
# ( cd util-linux-2.20.1 dpkg-buildpackage )
# dpkg -i util-linux_2.20.1-2_*.deb
# ddate
Ctrl-D

These commands download, build and install util-linux_2.20.1-2, which is
one minor version more recent than the current util-
linux_2.20.1-1ubuntu3, so until the next version (which I trust will
have this roadblocker bug fixed) you're safe from it wanting to upgrade
everytime.

Never mind what I said. Uncommenting the line Domain = localdomain on

with different defaults; on my 11.10 client machine, this line is
uncommented.

[Bug 991347] [NEW] After upgrade to 12.04 resolvconf seems ok but does not work

2012-04-29 Thread Patola
Public bug reported:

I was using a simple scheme for DNS resolution before upgrading from
11.10 to 12.04: there are three interfaces on the computer, eth0 is the
main one, acquires IP and DNS automatically from 10.0.0.1, which is also
the default route.

But after upgrade to the new DNS scheme on ubuntu 12.04, it does not
work. Everything seems in order:

/etc/network/interfaces:

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface

# The primary network interface

In other words, all these server are the right ones, however, when I try
to do a DNS query, it goes like that:

In other words, it returns a null response!!! No address!

As soon as I change 127.0.0.1 on /etc/resolv.conf to a real DNS server,
it works again. But of course, when configured this way it never uses
dnsmasq. Why has the conversion not worked?

[Bug 991347] Re: After upgrade to 12.04 resolvconf seems ok but does not work

2012-04-29 Thread Patola
Steve Langasek, I do not have bind installed, but I have some packages
named bind9-host, libbind9-60 and libbind9-80. They must not be
interfering with dnsmasq, bind9-host doesn't even have an executable
other than host.

Reducing the number of nameservers actually worked! I editted my
dhcpd.conf on the DHCP server and made it use only 8.8.8.8 (google
server). It resolves ok:
