** Description changed: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (64-bit) version 1.7.4-0ubuntu1 It's an Acer Aspire E 11 (E3-111-C0WA), which should have Synaptics' "Microsoft Precision TouchPad". September 5th: The touchpad worked upon installation, but lost all functionality after I installed the updates and rebooted. I updated gpointing-device-settings through Synaptic.
