[Bug 739068] Re: Cycling through app windows and apps themselves need improvement
Ctrl-TAB has been suggested above - however, this is already used to cycle through tabs of a particular window of an open application. For an application (which, in general, will have multiple tabs per window) wouldn't a new keyboard shortcut be required ? I agree that there is a usability issue at present regarding this, as it seems that only effective way to switch is via expo at present (which can be tedious). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/739068 Title: Cycling through app windows and apps themselves need improvement -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 579709] Re: No window decorations on login in Lucid
A possible workaround for this issue (as recommended by a Lucid user in #compiz) was to use fusion-icon to launch compiz. To achieve this, if fusion icon is not already installed, start Ubuntu Software Center and install the package "Compiz Fusion Icon". Then, in GNOME, System -> Preferences -> Appearance, click the "Visual Effects" tab and select "None". Then System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications and add a new Startup Program with Name "Compiz Fusion" (or similar) and with command line /usr/bin/fusion-icon. Log out and in again. I have been trialling this configuration for a while and haven't seen the issue reoccur. My compiz args are now (as the result of a "ps aux | grep compiz"): "compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp" -- No window decorations on login in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can people who are affected by this bug please try a "ps aux |grep compiz" and advise whether compiz (on affected systems) has any arguments ? @Juan: One workaround that I use is to install the compiz-fusion icon package. I agree - there is a usability issue here. After clicking on a group of applications there is no way to close a particular instance - only select (or switch) to an existing instance. @Yann - Do you have an nVidia based graphics card (and, if so, what driver are you using) ? I noticed that Gabe has an nVidia card (Jonathan doesn't but his situation was permanent). I do have an nVidia card as follows: # lspci |grep -i nvidia 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8500 GT] (rev a1) # dmesg |grep -i nvidia 740:[ 11.248101] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. 746:[ 12.176942] nvidia :01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 747:[ 12.176950] nvidia :01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 749:[ 12.177262] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 195.36.15 Thu Mar 11 21:41:46 PST 2010 -- No window decorations on login in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm Yann's observation as this issue occurring approximately 1 in 5 startups. If you have the Compiz Fusion icon installed then you can right click, "Reload Window Manager" (which I presume is equivalent to "gtk-window-decorator --replace" as detailed by the bug reporter). -- No window decorations on login in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 584079] Re: Adobe Reader Dutch version not uninstalling
This is secondary but the name of this package in the Ubuntu Software Center should be changed from "Adobe Reader" to "Adobe Reader 9 (Dutch Version)". Aside from the name of the package being "adobereader-deu", there is no indication that the package is not English (even in the "more info" section). I suspect that this is the reason why people are installing this by mistake. Screenshot attached. ** Attachment added: "Ubuntu Software Center_002.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50043559/Ubuntu%20Software%20Center_002.png -- Adobe Reader Dutch version not uninstalling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584079 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 591498] [NEW] gnome-screenshot appears to free image copied to clipboard if cancel subsequently clicked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils Steps to reproduce this issue in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 1. Start gnome-screenshot 2. Click "Copy to Clipboard" 3. Click "Cancel" to dismiss the dialog. 4. Start OpenOffice Writer (as an example of another app to paste the image on the clipboard). Within this application, attempt to paste the image in (Edit -> Paste). 5. The Application will segfault (i.e. tail /var/log/messages) Jun 9 10:11:14 IT040035 kernel: [ 906.571706] soffice.bin[1888]: segfault at 2ae05e9 ip 02ae05e9 sp b356c1a0 error 4 in libsvxli.so[2b82000+31a000] Notes A. If the steps are repeated without Step 3 then the fault does not occur. B. It should be possible to dismiss the gnome-screenshot dialog after an image is copied to the clipboard. There doesn't appear to be any other way to do so without clicking "Cancel" (the only other options are Save and Help). I would therefore argue that "Copy to Clipboard" followed by "Cancel" is a legitimate use. (Suggestion: Why not change "Cancel" to "Close" after "Copy to Clipboard" is used - this would be more intuitive.) At the very least, the image should not be freed on the clipboard (which is what I suspect is happening here). C. I suspect that this should be forwarded upstream - if someone on the Ubuntu team could first please check and confirm this issue then I would be happy to do so. ** Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-screenshot appears to free image copied to clipboard if cancel subsequently clicked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591498 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Reassigning from tightvnc to gtk+2.0 due to additional information that has been obtained. Have investigated this issue using a divide & conquer approach within a VM (i.e. clean install - applying all updates then rolling back and applying half of the updates etc).
