Hello Evan, I solved the problem you have by doing the following: 1. Run, as you did before: sudo dpkg --configure -a 2. Press CONTROL+C to before the download of Dropbox tries to do anything. 3. Remove dropbox: sudo apt-get purge nautilus-dropbox That should allow you to install other packages again. [Bug 1012375] Re: Lexmark printer firmware upgrade
The problem is certainly valid but it is requesting too large a change to be considered a feature request, and it is not a bug (i.e. there is no programmer error that is preventing the firmware upgrade). See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage#Feature_Requests I cannot find any existing package in Ubuntu that can take on this functionality (i.e. CUPS does not do this and I can't find any dedicated tools, at least in core Ubuntu packages). That's why I suggested going to the Brainstorm portion since we'll need help from design as well as the non-programmers that prowl that section to come up with a design for Ubuntu software, or more likely, to come up a with a nice organized effort to pressure Lexmark to give a toolbox for Linux the same way HP does with hplip. As to your reference to bug 1, for sure the issue of closed firmware is a contributing factor. I used to own a Lexmark X9575 that is a brick under any Linux distro - that and the way its ink started getting expensive caused me to get a new printer. The second thing I checked for the new printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500A) was Linux support, after checking how much the ink cost. --- Ubuntu Bug Squad volunteer triager http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012375 Title: Lexmark printer firmware upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1012375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1007462] Re: Sound unmuted when headphones are unplugged
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command (preferably right after you unplugged the headphones), as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1007462 Also, if you can describe the following, it would also help: 1. Are you headphones attached with the round 3.5mm plug (like normal headphones), or using a USB card/port (like some gaming headsets)? 2. Where the speakers muted before you plugged in the headphones? 3. How did you mute the headphones? (A button on the laptop? In Banshee? In Sound Settings?) When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. - I tried several variations of muting and then unplugging headphones, and this is the only way I got the music to play through the speakers: Note I don't have your type of laptop, so I made do with the following setup setup: Speakers attached to Intel DP67DE motherboard (Realtek audio, analog port out) Headphones attached to Asus Xonar U3 USB sound card. 1. Open Banshee Music Player. 2. Begin playback of music. (I used Daniel Juaraz's Celeste from Jamendo) 3. Make sure volume of speakers is NOT muted. 3a. If speakers are not playing music, select the output device of the Speakers in Sound Settings if needed, to get the speakers to play music. 4. Plug in headphone. 4a. Do step 3a for the headphones. 5. In Banshee, set the volume to 0. 6. Unplug the headphones. (In my case, I unplugged the USB sound card.) Expected result: Mute should have been maintained when swtiching from headphone to speakers. Actual result: The old volume of the speakers is used, so sound ends up playing again. Note if I try to mute using any of the Unity Desktop controls (Sound Settings or the sound icon on the panel next to the clock) the speakers actually stay muted. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007462 Title: Sound unmuted when headphones are unplugged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1007462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1001578] Re: Nautilus on SSD is slower than on external HDD
You may want to bring this discussion over to the Ubuntu forums under: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=332 While using Nautilus, try the following command in a terminal: dmesg | tail If there are any error messages in the dump, there may be a bug here. Otherwise, it may just be configuration. Older or budget SSDs can have their controllers overwhelmed by too many reads called stuttering. Generating the preview with Nautilus causes many such reads. If you are comfortable with editing your /etc/fstab, you can try adding the noatime or relatime option to any partition on the SSD (except swap) and see if that reduces reads enough. I know on my SSD (Kingston SSDNow 128GB) the noatime option worked wonders on my boot time, although my computer is probably too fast to notice any change in nautilus performance... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001578 Title: Nautilus on SSD is slower than on external HDD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1001578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am currently checking whether a trailing slash in $HOME should even be valid. [Bug 999812] Re: Unable to paste password straight from keepass to active form
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 999812 Specifically, may you verify the version of Keepass? The keepass version in the Ubuntu packages is 2.18+dfsg-2, so 2.19 would be unsupported. [Bug 1000838] Re: mouse and keyboard not working after 12.04 update
It sounds like your computer is pretty much useable and you'll be better off getting support from the following sources than sitting around waiting for some software to change: See the following places for support: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=331 http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/chat (the #ubuntu IRC channel) My suggestion as a preliminary step is, if you can get to the terminal, type the following command after you plug a USB mouse or your KVM: dmesg That will print out a lot, but if your mouse doesn't work there will usually be an error message for you that can help find out what your issue is. This is best done from a remote computer if you can as it is evidently difficult to get logs off the affected computer. --- Ubuntu Bug Squad volunteer triager http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1000838 Title: mouse and keyboard not working after 12.04 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1000838/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 985649] Re: Imap or related task crashes with Web-Clients
I'm setting the package to courier-imap as that is what the forum topic refers to. [Bug 985896] Re: Wireless problem 12.04 and minor bugs
Human response here (well at least I'm currently defined as human)... Your bug report seems to be describing multiple problems - a bug report only should report on ONE problem. If you are encountering many issues, you make many bug reports! For your maximize and close buttons, try brining your cursor to the upper-left side of the screen. A maximized window on the unity desktop hides the extra buttons unless your mouse is at the upper-left side of the screen. For the wireless issue, I suggest you re-create the report using the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#A4._Collect_information_about_the_bug Use the package network-manager as that will usually get the attention of the network team. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985896 Title: Wireless problem 12.04 and minor bugs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/985896/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: * Is this reproducible? * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? This will help us to find and resolve the problem. In particular, can you let us know EVERY application you used to do the configuration of your terminal shortcuts? That will help narrow down a package. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986609 Title: Using x-terminal-emulator to open a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-T opens Root Terminal (with normal login) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/986609/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
