Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
Let me preface by saying that I know that rhythmbox is not the package
at fault, but I am not sure what lower-level package is responsible,
please guide me in the right direction.
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.
0.12.4-1ubuntu1
3) What you expected to happen
I expect that when I plug an Ipod 2nd generation Nano into my HP Netbook
1030NR that it is recognized as being an Ipod and not a generic USB
drive. When mounted, the Ipod is represented in Rhythmbox and the gnome-
mount applet using the Ipod icon. This is the observed behavior under
Jaunty. Having been recognized as an Ipod, rhythmbox is able to
successfully copy files to the device.
4) What happened instead
The ipod is not recognized as an ipod, only usb drive. Chaos ensues.
When mounted, the Ipod is represented in Rhythmbox and the gnome-mount
applet using the generic USB drive icon. While I am able to create
playlists, attempting to copy files to the Ipod from within Rhythmbox
does not appear to result in any action.
5) Other information.
I'm running Gnome and the i386 version of Ubuntu. I did a network (not
CD/DVD) upgrade to Karmic.
I have another machine running Jaunty, and it still recognizes the Ipod
as an Ipod - this appears to be a Karmic regression.
I will happily provide any additional information that is required to
diagnose this problem.
Thanks, and keep up the great work.
