[Bug 2076081] Re: Gnome-kiosk-search-appliance hangs at login in Ubuntu 24.04
I thought I almost got this working but nope: * I made a systemd gnome-session target.d folder and specifying per session requirements there (just like the script session already does) * It would start a session but it wouldn't start Firefox, so I created an org.gnome.Kiosk.SearchApp.service file in /user/lib/systemd/user. Wrote the exec command so that it starts an sh script that first runs Firefox and when that process exits it calls gnome-session-quite --no-prompt. That got Firefox started, but also displayed an error dialog saying that Firefox is already running... * ...so I then removed the requirement for the search app .desktop file from the Gnome session file in /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions. But after that I was back to Firefox not starting. So if I use both the .desktop file and a custom systemd .service file, Firefox starts twice, but if I don't use either, it doesn't start at all. I just can't make sense of how all of this is supposed to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2076081 Title: Gnome-kiosk-search-appliance hangs at login in Ubuntu 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-kiosk/+bug/2076081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2060193] Re: iwlwifi microcode crash when using wrong password to join a WPA3 access point
Cold rebooted several times to no effect. But updating the RUT241 firmware from 07.06.x to 07.07 fixes this problem for me - no more microcode crash if the password is wrong. 07.07 contains an updated wifi driver which probably is what fixes this problem with that router. [Bug 2058226] Re: iwlwifi repeatedly logging microcode crashes
I'm not sure what happened but I did the following: - Disabled Bluetooth - Switched to another access point - Used the PC for some time - Noticed I wasn't getting these errors any more, and decided I want to reproduce the issue - Re-enabled Bluetooth - Switched back to original access point -> Still not observing a microcode crash with the same signature. I do get microcode crashes but those are a different story. Firmware is still the same version and access point is still using the same firmware version as well. Another nearby access point has been updated to a new firmware version but that shouldn't matter here as when the failures occurred the computer wasn't connected to that AP. Until I figure out how to reproduce the same failure it's probably impossible to find and fix this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058226 Title: iwlwifi repeatedly logging microcode crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2058226/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Another instruction which appears to have issues with memory operands and breakpoint on the instruction is vpmuludq. [Bug 1850258] Re: First breakpoint at AVX instruction with memory operand causes SIGSEGV when tring to continue execution
A bit more debugging I see that signal comes from kernel (si_code=0x80) but it claims null pointer reference. I don't understand how it could be a null pointer I would need to have better understanding what happens in gdb and kernel to trigger the SIGSEGV. I found out also that workaround is to have breakpoint but disable it after stopping on the problematic instruction. If breakpoint isn't active then execution continues without issues. Only issues is that I don't know full set of instructions which actually trigger this issue. I have had issues with some other memory referencing VEX coded instructions. But I also have examples of memory reference instructions which don't trigger the bug. I attached updated test2.cc which has now signal handling dumping siginfo. Reading symbols from ./test2... [Bug 1850258] Re: First breakpoint at AVX instruction with memory operand causes SIGSEGV when tring to continue execution
Actually it seems like it is more restricted towards a few instructions with memory operand. But if breakpoint is set to them at any point of execution they crash. That means also breakpoint before and single stepping to problematic breakpoint will crash application. But single stepping over problematic instruction without breakpoint doesn't crash. That was adding to my earlier confusion why application crashes looked so random. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850258 Title: First breakpoint at AVX instruction with memory operand causes SIGSEGV when tring to continue execution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdb/+bug/1850258/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1850258] [NEW] First breakpoint at AVX instruction with memory operand causes SIGSEGV when tring to continue execution
Public bug reported: I noticed random looking SIGSEGV to application when trying to continue execution after first breakpoint. I now seem to have narrowed the issue to SIMD instruction with memory operand as first breakpoint location. I haven't managed to figure out why the SIGSEGV is delivered to the debugger application. It is important have first breakpoint exactly at a problematic instructions. If I first break on a different instruction then later breakpoints won't reproduce that crash I haven't tested if this is a hardware specific issue. I managed to write a simple test case which reproduces the crash if breakpoint is set. I attached the test.cc which includes compilation and testing instructions. test.cc is supposed to generate a simple main function like: Dump of assembler code for function main(): => 0x4520 <+0>: vmovdqa 0x1af8(%rip),%xmm0# 0x6020 0x4528 <+8>: vmovd %xmm0,%eax 0x452c <+12>:retq I set breakpoint with: b main Then either continue or stepping causes SIGSEGV to the debugged application. This was happening already with disco. I only now figured out enough details to make a simple test case which is worth a bug report. [Bug 1702767] [NEW] pname (Process name) completion script fails to handle wine generated path names
Public bug reported: I'm playing The Witcher 3 in wine. The game plays mostly fine except it deadlocks when trying to exit. To clear the deadlocked memory hog process I need to kill it manually. I tried to use killall with tab completion to clear the process but then I noticed pname completion function in /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion doesn't handle windows paths at all. There is two problems in windows names: 1. It may use backslashes (but wine supports also unix paths if application is launched from terminal) 2. There is often spaces in the directory path Attached possible fix is fairly simple addition to sed replace script to handle windows names first before anything else. It only handles .exe files but script could be modified to handle other extensions like -e "s:.*[\/]\([^ ]*\\.\\(exe\\|bat\\)\\):\\1:". But I didn't want to add any other extensions because I haven't seen them used. The possible fix still has a weakness if command line arguments include filenames with exe extension. I just don't see how to write a simple script that handles spaces in directory path and arguments having exe extension. If wanting to handle the extension in argument list corner case it could be done using multi step completion involving parsing /proc//cmdline that has list of null terminate strings making it much simpler to separate arguments from directory path. Too bad ps tool doesn't already offer option to display that information instead of /proc//comm that truncates long command names. I tried to use single quotes to reduces backslashes but that didn't work in completion script. That forced me to choose double quotes and doubled backslashes. I tested the patch in my system completion script directly. killall completion now allows me to complete both windows and native process names without any issues yet. [Bug 1589563] Re: ext4 journaling and swapping to same encrypted SSHD hangs system
.This is a new laptop with fresh install. I received it only a few days before noticing the swapping issue. Laptop model is previous generation meaning that this hardware has been around for nearly two years. I haven't tried older kernels if I can find a stable one. Only relevant looking report about very similar problem pointed to bug being present already in 3.19 kernels. If this is same bug then his report about older kernel being stable means I would need to install quite old kernel to find a stable one. But I might setup kernel build and bisection for the broken commit in a few days. But I wanted first to learn how relevant code behaviors in my system before trying to find the bug. That means I need to read thousands lines of code and setup some kernel traces to see how thread, hw access and irq timings interact. I tested mainline kernel package linux- image-4.7.0-040700rc2-generic_4.7.0-040700rc2.201606051831_amd64.deb There is some changes to system behavior but still underlying bug is present that makes swapping not working on this laptop. Changes in 4.7-rc2 kernel: + SLUB now reports actively about allocation problems + Kernel manages to use about 1G swap space before freezing (so far only one attempt to reproduce) when 4.4 kernel consistently used only about 100M swap before freeze + freeze triggers OOM killer very quickly and system automatically recovers after OOM killer removes the offending compiling process. - Netconsole has become unreliable. There is allocation failures reported from netconsole context that results to lost kernel messages + Local kernel log recorded to disk is complete. There is no report from systemd about ring buffer overflows. Attaching locally recorded kern.log from boot and reproduction attempt. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589563 Title: ext4 journaling and swapping to same encrypted SSHD hangs system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1589563/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

"atk-wrapper went through some quite big updates between 15.04 and 15.10, so I'd be betting on that being the issue (or it somehow triggering a Java edge case)" I don't think that is the primary bug. Bugs in Debian and Redhat are much older and look like perfect match to this bug. It feels like a race condition somewhere but I don't know how to debug jvm. I managed to find a very similar sounding bug that is from year 2012 but it was iced-tea specific: http://icedtea.classpath.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=857 Solution there was to make sure that setLookAndFeel call happens before any other call to swing. [Bug 1507062] [NEW] After suspend resume network manager fails to set default route entry to routing table for mobile broadband connection
Public bug reported: This is regression from 10.04. It seems to reproduce often but not always which might point to some kind of race condition handled badly. Basic setup: * Huawei USB 3G modem * Network manager set to auto connect with saved pin * Laptop which has very few suspend-resume issues so I use suspending all the time I noticed the bug that modem led and network manager indicated that there was a connection. But connection didn't seems to work. My initial workaround in hurry was just to pull the modem from laptop and restart both modem manager and network manager. (they don't like modem unplugging or individual restarts but those are long standing separated bugs that I haven't cared to report) After restarting connection comes up working. I decided to investigate what is broken after resume and I could narrow issue to be that default route is missing from routing table. That resulted to very simple fix where I can simple manually add the missing default route. This is a response I got from my ISP. I think it's relevant. [Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)
Here's one more data point: I have Realtek PCI adapter that lspci reports as "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)". It uses the rtl8192ce driver. With the default driver and firmware supplied by Ubuntu 13.04 (linux-image-3.8.0-23-generic, 3.8.0-23.34; firmware rtl8192cfw.bin, sha1 4fc1e72c5f82cf95c62050c56cce074d90c3e579) the connection was very unstable, exactly as described in the above comments. That is, reason=6 and reason=15 disconnects, and the link going dead after some time from connection. I obtained Realtek's vendor rtl8192ce driver version 0012.0207.2013 from their download site and built it. First, I forgot to upgrade the firmware, only loading the newly built rtl8192ce.ko. This did not improve the situation, and similar problems as with the Ubuntu-supplied driver persisted. Then, I upgraded also the firmware (to rtl8192cfw.bin, sha1 bbd9b4e2c53e18df3aed03d22eee8d8c22ef9a8e). The connection seems now quite stable, the dropouts seem to be gone now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902557 Title: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/902557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 606594] Re: Multiple instances of Gwibber
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 856284 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856284 This might not be duplicate. I noticed that gwibber-service startup has a huge race issue in the code that tries to prevent starting duplicate services. Basic issue in gwibber-serice code is: 1. Check if dbus service is registered. 2. Do some initialization stuff 3. Register dbus service. This race allows gwibber-service to start multiple instances that would result to gwibber-service reporting same remote service multiple times. I'm not dbus expert but I remember dbus providing feature to start gwibber-service like service automatically on first client requesting the service. I suppose that could eliminate the race in startup making it easily possible quarentee single gwibber-service instance per user login. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606594 Title: Multiple instances of Gwibber To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-messages/+bug/606594/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 890569] Re: Kernel NULL pointer deference in __d_move from vfs_stat ioctl
It was one time crash only for me. But upstream doesn't have much changes in that area. Only patches that I quickly could name even potentially related are in sysfs side: f6d90b4f9ce018bff429d6e01ee672de712b8641 sysfs: Make sysfs_rename safe with sysfs_dirents in rbtrees Mikulas Patocka 's rb_tree changes. in dcache side there is more interesting commits but only one of them talk about d_parent not being NULL. But looking (upstream) code d_parent shouldn't ever be NULL. If same applies to 3.0 kernel then It starts to look like some race condition that I happened to hit only once. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890569 Title: Kernel NULL pointer deference in __d_move from vfs_stat ioctl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/890569/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 890569] [NEW] Kernel NULL pointer deference in __d_move from vfs_stat ioctl
Public bug reported: __d_move crashes in second d_ancestor check where it finds that one of parents for "dentry" variable is NULL. Call comes from sysfs_lookup->d_move->__d_move. The vfs_stat ioctl was initiated from Xorg quickly after I tried to switch user. I have take picture from oops report but I don't have cable for the camera. But I will upload the picture later when I get my hands on the cable. Too bad console font was a bit too large to capture the begin of the oops report. [Bug 227705] Re: hdparm not being triggered with udev
I take my words back. The unmodified file works as well. Setting 'set -x' and running the /lib/udev/hdparm function by hand does show that with DEVNAME=/dev/sda hdparm is called properly with options: /sbin/hdparm -B254 -S1 /dev/sda This does spin down the disk on manual run. After boot the disk is still not spinning down. After wake up from suspend the disk is spinning down. it seems to me that /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm calls "/sbin/hdparm -B254" also, but this should not re-reset the spinning (at least not after manual run).
