[Bug 409819] Re: [regression] Built-in mic not working after pulse updates on Karmic. Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) sound card.

2009-09-26 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
It took me a few minutes to figure this out too. Although this works,
it seems that my selection gets reset after shutting down the computer.
In other words, this doesn't seem to get saved here. Does anybody have
the same problem?

William,

I downloaded the patches, applied them, and rebuilt the packages. It
works! So my particular problem is solved. I hope this also solves the
issue that other people were seeing. Thanks again.

[Bug 267611] Re: [intrepid] cannot see touchpad tab in mouse configuration

2008-10-11 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Ah, now I see, thanks for the explanation.

Wow, good eyes. I had only noticed that the first four values were the
same, then thought there was corruption. So basically 04 00 00 00 is
being inserted in the middle, when it should come at the end.
Unfortunately, I don't know what to make out of this. If you have any
suspicion of which source code I should look at, please don't hesitate
to give me directions.

[Bug 267611] Re: [intrepid] cannot see touchpad tab in mouse configuration

2008-10-11 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
William,

Very strange, could it be that the x86_64 version is using incompatible
variable types? So the issue is more low level than what I had thought,
since you found this behavior with libxi. Does hal rely on it too to
change settings? I ask that because in my case making changes through
hal seems to work.

2008-10-10 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
OK -- I installed the i386 image and upgraded from the latest packages
from the main servers. xinput still works like it did on the live CD.
So it seems that, at least in my case, the issue has to do with x86_64.

What information can I supply from both installations that would be
helpful? Also, if you have other bugs that you suspect are platform-
dependent, feel free to ask me for a test. Before I wipe out the 32bit
installation. : )

[Bug 210672] Re: linux-image-2.6.24-13-openvz refuses to boot

Lars,

I didn't have sound either. Did you try what I said in a previous
message? In my case I had to delete all existing openvz modules I had
in /lib/modules/ and run depmod -a. Perhaps checking the output of
dmesg would tell you more about the problem you have.

For other people who are not sure what packages are required, read this:

You need:

Will,

Which issue? The booting problem? Or the problem with modules that I
had? If it is the booting problem, you can either compile the kernel by
yourself (just follow Karoly's instructions, it's that simple) or wait
until the new binaries are generated and uploaded to the repositories.

[Bug 210672] Re: linux-image-2.6.24-13-openvz refuses to boot

2008-04-16 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Please disregard my previous message, I found what I was doing wrong.
Just in case somebody runs into the same issue, the problem is that I
was installing the new kernel without properly removing the previous
one. I had to purge the openvz kernel packages, manually delete the
corresponding directory in /lib/modules/, and only then install the
kernel I compiled.

Now everything seems to be working properly.

Thanks. I hope the patch makes into the kernel soon.

Stefan et al.,

The problem with openvz that Karoly and I were reporting seems to be fixed with
the patch at the bottom of this thread (it worked for both of us):

It should hit the git repository soon.

Speaking for myself, the compiled openvz kernel still doesn't have
sound. With the debian kernel, everything worked fine.

Same thing here. It's weird that there wasn't much activity in the git

[Bug 137911] Re: qla1280 module missing

2007-09-15 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
I believe this bug is of utmost importance, because it prevents us from
installing any recent Ubuntu release. I've tried Gutsy, Feisty, but
could only get the installer to recognize the scsi drives with Dapper
(6.06). Dist-upgrading does not work. I'm about to try to compile the
module from the source, as suggested by Jan.

Also, the bug is more general than just qla1280. In my case it involves
qla2200.

Please let me know what information I can provide. I hope we can fix
this before releasing Gutsy.

[Bug 124473] Re: Installing libghc6-gtk-dev takes forever (really doesn't complete)

2007-07-10 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
When I installed it, a while ago, I noticed the same thing. I thought
my computer had frozen. But after a long period it did complete and it
works. It definitely did not take 45 min, though. I'd say that for
about 5 minutes I couldn't even move the mouse cursor. This happened
both on my laptop and on my desktop, both core 2 duo machines.

Maybe we should take a look at the (pre/post) installation scripts.

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100 and 150

2007-04-10 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
I suspect I attached my desktop's dmesg in the first post -- I'm doing
things remotely. Please ignore that one. Here's the real dmesg.

The kern.log file is correct, though.

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100 and 150

2007-04-10 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Line 623 shows the first time I booted the Feisty kernel, after
upgrading from Dapper.

Unfortunately, I fail to see any problem with keyboard or USB
throughout. I do remember the keyboard was not working. Pressing caps
lock or num lock had no effect.

I hope you can spot something. Let me know if there's other information
that might be helpful.

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100 and 150

2007-04-09 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Fabio,

Thanks for the attention, it's really appreciated.
Unfortunately, the Feisty installer isn't working either. So it's hard to get
debugging information.

When I dist-upgraded from Dapper, the keyboard was still not working. HOWEVER,
after a second reboot it started to work. I don't know what happened, but the
things I remember doing (through SSH) were:
1. dpkg-reconfigure console-setup (switched from Sun Type 5 to PC 104 keys)
2. depmod and update-initramfs

Unfortunately because of all this, I don't think my dmesg will be very
helpful. I tried to read old copies to find one in which I still had
the problem, but everything seems to be fine. I'll attach one anyway.

If there's a way of getting information from the installer without
keyboard, let me know and I'll boot from it.

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100 and 150

2007-04-07 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Of course, I couldn't resist the temptation and went ahead with a dist-
upgrade. Things went relatively smoothly. I will report the issues on
ubuntuforums to avoid going off-topic here.

Related to our problem, the new kernel boots but the keyboard doesn't
work again. Fortunately, I have sshd running, so I can still use the
system from another computer.

This might be good for debugging, because now I can gather information
that we couldn't with the installation disc. Any ideas are appreciated.

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100

2007-04-07 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Voyager,

Here's what I did to be able to read the error messages: I recorded it
with my camera phone. You're right, it goes too fast.

However, I suspect there's more to this problem than that. Following
your description, I got to install Ubuntu 6.06.1 on my Sun Blade 150.
And I get the same error messages (fatal errors with the usb modules).
Despite that, the installer runs just fine. So I don't know what
exactly causes the keyboard problem on Feisty.

I wonder if a dist-upgrade would work...

By the way, I had a thread on ubuntuforums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=402929

It looks like we're in the same boat. Let's wait for a
maintainer/developer's opinion.

[Bug 16247] Re: ndiswrapper hangs on boot if running on battery

[Bug 99790] Sun Blade 150 - Fatal: Module usbkbd not found

2007-04-06 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Voyager,

Are you getting these error messages like me?
FATAL: Module usbkbd not found.
FATAL: Module usbhid not found.
FATAL: Module usbserial not found.

I also found this person with the same complaint:
http://drwetter.org/coolthreads/t2000.Ubuntu_vs_Solaris10_1.html

In my case, I'm trying Feisty Fawn beta on a Sun Blade 150. I've
upgraded OBP to the latest version. As reported by Voyager, the
installer loads but because of those usb errors, the keyboard doesn't
work at all.

Please let me know what additional information I can provide.

Thanks!

[Bug 16247] Re: Dell Inspiron 600m - ndiswrapper hangs on boot if running on battery

2007-03-11 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
This got to be the strangest bug I've ever seen. It got me installing
and reinstalling ndiswrapper over and over again, till I decided to
search launchpad. And indeed, I just had to plug the AC power cord.

This is a Macbook C2D, running Feisty and ndiswrapper 1.38.
Unfortunately, I don't have the SysReq key here. Let me know if there's
an alternative way of doing that.

I hope we fix this. This sure is annoying.

[Bug 90552] Proposal to Change Download Descriptions

2007-03-07 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Public bug reported:

Wiki Entry: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UsabilityTesting/DownloadDescriptions
Ubuntu Forums: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=378395

We propose to change the descriptions of CD images on the Ubuntu
downloads page.

The current download descriptions are too technical for new users. They
also contain wording that might be misleading. This can confuse users
when trying to decide which image to download. In the specific case of
AMD64, it has reportedly caused some users to think the image was not
appropriate for their Intel 64-bit capable processors.

We want to improve the information on the download page to contribute to
an easier decision process. We hope this will decrease the chances of
waste of time, patience, and Internet bandwidth for individuals who are
considering migrating to Ubuntu.

Please check the wiki entry to see the actual proposals. Comments are
most welcome.
