[Bug 1458322] Re: NetworkManager doesn't hide virtual interfaces (e.g. Docker, VMWare)

2018-11-07 Thread José Pedro Saraiva
Unreal, 3 years later and this is still a thing.
It's not even an issue exclusive to ubuntu, it's present in most, if not all,
linux distros and then we wonder why people have switched to OSX.

[Bug 573619] [NEW] Black screen before X start on intel 855GM

2010-05-02 Thread Pedro Saraiva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic

Booting the Lucid Live CD gives a black screen when it tries to launch X.
Adding i915.nomodeset=0 gives the same results.
I was able to boot in low graphics mode using i915.nomodeset=0 xforcevesa.

I then installed Lucid on the hard drive and it also gives the same results.
Using kernel 2.33.3 from ppa it boots with modeset activated, compiz is working
and video playback is fine.

[Bug 270726] Re: [upstream] openoffice.org PDF conversion puts lines into background

2009-10-25 Thread Pedro Saraiva
@Adrian Busolini

Hello,

I don't know what libs google docs use to convert/display pdf, but the
white lines are present on the gradient. Not tried with acrobat reader,
but with foxit reader (there's a linux version!) it shows the gradient
fine. So I guess it's not a openoffice issue.

Best regards,

Pedro Saraiva

Re: [Bug 395932] Re: [i855] No Xv support for 82852/855GM (KMS bug)

2009-10-16 Thread Pedro Saraiva
The fix is disable kernel mode setting... Put nomodeset in the kernel boot
options in grub config file.
Or compile your own kernel and patch it, witch I'll do when I've time...

2009/10/16 Matteo Settenvini matteo...@member.fsf.org

So, what's the proper fix for karmic? I can't watch any video without it
stuttering and the CPU going to 100%... DVD are absolutely unwatchable.

I made three different installations of jaunty this week, and all three
have an Intel 82852/855GM. It may be a coincidence, but at least here in
Italy for laptops bought in the years 2003-2007 it's a fairly common
 integrated video card.

Expect some complaining from users that update to karmic with this bug
 still unsolved...

[Bug 431812] Re: i915: black screen on boot

2009-10-02 Thread Pedro Saraiva
I've installed karmic beta yesterday, and now I can boot to the desktop.
With alpha 6 the only thing I could see was a black screen where nothing
could be done, even the caps locks key failed to work.

However it seems that the new xsplash doesn't work, as I'm getting no
splash at all, only the boot messages till the brown flashy splash
appears. It's odd because with the live CD, it shows the ubuntu logo on
a black background and then the brown flashy splash.

[Bug 345355] Re: No /proc/acpi/video in Clevo M860TU

2009-08-14 Thread José Pedro Saraiva
I'm guessing this is either a BIOS/dsdt bug or lack of support for this
barebone within the linux kernel itself.

Eitherway, it's a really annoying bug... when the laptop battery goes
under a certain percentage my lcd brightness dims (as it's supposed to)
but in order to restore the brightness (after having the laptop plugged
in) I _MUST_ boot up windows. Linux is not able to restore the
brightness on it's own. Also, if X crashes I can't access any
maintenance console terminals, so the only solution is a reboot.

But as you can see, nobody is paying attention to this, it's the first
reply in almost 6 mounths. Anyways, glad to know I'm not alone on this
one :)

[Bug 193578] Re: Basic graphics operations makes audio skip (1 sec pauses)

2009-05-08 Thread José Pedro Saraiva
I can confirm this bug is not rhythmbox specific.
I experience the same bug with exaile, though not so often.

As far as I understand it, this is a firefox/compiz issue, the same high
cpu scrolling issue that haunts firefox in linux for months.

I managed to solve the slow scrolling issue in big pages (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/125970)
installing the latest nvidia drivers (180) but started to experience
this bug with the sound.

The crossfading fix solved it for me, although scrolling on big pages
still causes high cpu usage.

[Bug 352373] Re: [jaunty] System randomly freezes

2009-04-27 Thread Pedro Saraiva
I'm getting system freezes too. If I remember all of them occurred when
I was browsing with firefox. The hole desktop freezes, I can't switch to
terminal, can't restart gdm, can't enable/disable caps-lock. The only
thing that can be done is move the mouse pointer around...

I'm using the final version of Jaunty with all updates released so far.
My system is an Acer laptop, Pentium M 1.7, with an integrated intel
855GM graphics card. The distribution is installed on a ext4 partition,
and the home directory is a ext3 partition.

Hope this gets fixed soon. If more information is needed, please ask.

Thanks for reading,

[Bug 345355] [NEW] No /proc/acpi/video in Clevo M860TU

2009-03-19 Thread José Pedro Saraiva
Public bug reported:

I own a Clevo M860TU with a nVidia 9800 GT and I get no /proc/acpi/video
(empty directory) in Intrepid. As a result my display cannot respond to
state changes nor brightness hotkeys, this is particularly upsettings
since I can't get any console terminals (outside X).

Same here, using intel ipw2915, on hardy it worked perfectly.
Network manager refuses to connect to WPA Enterprise with TKIP and PEAP.
Using a script to deactivate network manager and connect directly via

[Bug 205000] Re: [HARDY]IPN2220: after kernel 2.6.22 wlan0 does not connnect anymore

2008-04-25 Thread Pedro Saraiva
Hello,

Same problem here using the final version of hardy... In gutsy all when fine
with some hacks.
The ndiswrapper is working, but the card refuses to connect to the wireless
network.

I'm using WPA Pessoal encryption... i've not tested without encryption,
maybe someone could test this? I don't have much time to do so.

My hardware is an acer travelmate 2301 wlmi with the infamous Improcomm
IPN2220 card.

Thanks,

[Bug 161895] Re: ipn2220 with ndiswrapper behaves weird in gutsy

2007-12-16 Thread Pedro Saraiva
On, my laptop with gutsy, I can't get the card working... The led light
is always off...

I then install the kernel from feisty, and load ubuntu with it, then I
do modprob ndiswrapper and the light enables, and the card is working.
Then if I reboot to the kernel from gutsy, and modprobe ndiswrapper
the card works..

If I shutdown the computer, and remove the laptop battery and disconnect
the pc from power, and reboot I need to go again to the older kernel and
enable the card, so I can use it in the new kernel...

I guess it's a kernel bug...

Any thoughts?
