[Bug 151556] Compiz put plugin does not allow setting keyboard actions in Gutsy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main Hi Folks: Although I can set the keyboard shortcuts for most of the compiz plugins with the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings manager, the settings I enter for the Put plugin to not take effect. I am on a T61 laptop running the latest updates of Gutsy and do not have the KP keys, so I'd really like to remap so that I can place windows with the keyboard. What happens is that I enter the new keyboard shortcut under the Bindings heading in the Actions tab of the Put plugin and they show up for a split second, then the Bindings hierarchical menu closes and the setting is erased. What is the actual file that holds these settings? Perhaps I can try setting it manually there to see if it works. [Bug 150739] Re: GUTSY - Won't boot after update - Tries to boot A USB FLASH/PEN Drive and then hangs if none is inserted then it just hangs with or without it inserted with both .13 .14 kernels - .
So, what's the common denominator here? We have three people who can not boot with the new kernels 2.6.22-13 or 2.6.22-14, but can boot with earlier kernels or releases of that kernel. If this problem was happening on all machines they would not of released those kernels. Are we all on laptops with SATA hard drives? I have colleagues who have no problem booting into the 2.6.22-14 kernel on their desktop machine. I am on a Thinkpad T61, which has one of the blacklisted Hitachi hard drives in it, though I have no idea what it means for a HD to be blacklisted. It was booting just fine in the 2.6.22-12 kernel, which I'm still running so that I can work. Thanks for trying to solve this problem. There is as yet no indication that anyone who has anything to do with the kernel in Ubuntu has looked at this bug. [Bug 151556] Re: Compiz Put plugin does not allow setting keyboard actions in Gutsy
I think I've found a clue to help solve the problem. I tried editing the setting using the gconf-editor and, although most plugins are listed and I can set them there, the Put plugin is not listed. So, it could be that the plugin is failing to write out its settings because there is no node specified there to use. Hope this helps solve the problem, Per -- Compiz Put plugin does not allow setting keyboard actions in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 151556] Re: Compiz Put plugin does not allow setting keyboard actions in Gutsy
Indeed it did help locate the problem, which seemed to be in the metacity window-keybindings configuration in gconf-editor. As it turned out, all the settings for moving a window around the desktop/viewport, such as move_to_corner_ne, were set to be integers, but they needed to be strings. Once I changed them all to strings, the CompizConfig settings manager was able to set the keybindings. I'm not sure what application creates the original settings for the metacity keybindings that you can see with gconf-editor, but that's where the bug is. So, from the launchpad update history it looks like the error was introduced in: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-13-generic (2.6.22-13.33) to 2.6.22-13.34 I'm going to add linux-ubuntu-modules as the other error because the source is obviously not broken, it's some way in which they are compiling the modules. No need to figure out the Baltix :) I accidentally added it in, but couldn't figure out how to remove it. [Bug 150739] Re: GUTSY - Won't boot after update - for either -13 or -14 kernels
I'm guessing this is a related bug, so I'm adding the comment here. I, too, can not boot either the 2.6.22-13 or the 2.6.22-14 kernel, but can boot with the 2.6.22-12. I am running Gutsy with the latest dist- upgrade on a Thinkpad T61. The boot hangs at this line: ata3: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300) and then eventually drops into a busybox terminal.
