I can confirm that the latest Ubuntu kernel 3.2.0-27 works on my MacBook
Air 3,2. Thank you!

[Bug 1001825] Re: apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse: conflict between ubuntu and OS X

2012-07-05 Thread Peter Hedlund
The script works with the Magic Trackpad. I just have to be a bit
patient on startup until everything is loaded.

I wrote a wrapper init script and an install script. They are simple
adaptations of other scripts so they should be harmless, but no
guarantees. This way I avoid running your main script on shutdown
(runlevel 0, which defaults to stop and now does nothing).

I renamed your script apple-keyboard, but otherwise it is unaltered.
Actually, with this solution it should be possible to remove the loop
again.

OK, so that works. An ignorant question (and I have not tested) but
would it not be simpler to not include the script in runlevel 0?

2012-06-19 Thread Peter Hedlund
Thank you for the script. I modified it with the correct values for my
devices and added it to /etc/init.d but I do not see any positive
effects. What exactly is it supposed to help with?

If my keyboard and trackpad have been used in OSX I have a very hard
time getting them to connect in Ubuntu. They often seem to connect for a
few seconds but then immediately disconnect. A dialog about granting
access keeps popping up and I repeatedly check always grant access but
that of course does not happen.

[Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-06-05 Thread Peter Hedlund
Yes, assuming that is the relevant patch. I have not done any
compilation, but the code is in a file called nouveau_connector.c and
3.4 and 3.5 are similar enough to do a backport. In the Precise kernel
3.2 the code is very different.

However, right now I don't really see the point. Precise works fine with
a 3.3 kernel and I assume Quantal will use 3.5 or 3.6. We just have to
make sure there are no further regressions.

2012-06-04 Thread Peter Hedlund
I think 3.4 is a lost cause. The problem is fixed in 3.5-rc1 although I
have had some instability issues that I hope will improve. The drm pull
request for 3.5 (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-
devel/2012-May/023395.html) contains this comment which I think is the
relevant part:

Well, 12.04 runs fine with a 3.3 kernel. The real problem is that the
bug is back in the 3.4 kernel including the final release and there has
been no fix during the entire rc-cycle. Also, so far no comment from an
involved developer.

This problem is still present in Precise. I just printed this page.
Cups-pdf took several minutes, spiked one cpu core and finally generated

pages rendered as text.

[Bug 911064] Re: Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Fn key not working

2012-05-04 Thread Peter Hedlund
Well, it's a backporting problem if you are running vanilla Precise. The
other part of the problem is that running Precise with a newer kernel
that supposedly has the devices added doesn't help. I would be happy to
file an upstream bug if someone can confirm that the device IDs are
indeed included in recent mainline kernels or is comment #14 still
valid?

[Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-03-21 Thread Peter Hedlund
Yes, wireless works fine. For an earlier kernel (3.0 I believe) I had
blacklisted the bcma module. For 3.3 I removed the blacklisting and
wireless started working.

2012-03-14 Thread Peter Hedlund
I can also confirm that the issue is fixed in kernel 3.3. I am running
rc7 from mainline. There appears to be confirmation from Fedora also
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=650949.

Any chance we can see relevant parts backported to precise?

[Bug 898784]

2012-02-19 Thread Peter Hedlund
Since this is a regression I am interested in trying to walk backwards
to try to identify the problem. Is it likely that the problem is in xf86
-video-nouveau or someplace else? Is cgit.freedesktop.org down or where
do I browse the code? I would appreciate any hints on how to go about
this.

A photo of the screen shows the distortion. It does not matter if an
external monitor is attached or not. The internal monitor works fine in
Oneiric. A live CD with Fedora 16 shows the same regression.

The internal display is distorted with vertical bands of different

bands and black and white noise
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-

[Bug 845137] Re: Second monitor doesn't work on MacBookAir3, 1 with noveau driver (Experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards)

2011-11-08 Thread Peter Hedlund
I installed the kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/drm-next/2011-10-28-oneiric/ on my MacBook Air 3,2 but it
would not boot. Probably due to other drivers not being
updated/compatible.

Is there anything else we can start testing?

[Bug 845137] Re: Second monitor doesn't work on MacBookAir3, 1 with noveau driver (Experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards)

2011-11-08 Thread Peter Hedlund
I was able to install and boot the 3.2 rc1 kernel. It did not improve
things. Nouveau graphics was heavily distorted with flicker and a
missing color channel. Adding xorg-edgers on top did not improve things.
Still a long way to go...

[Bug 870308] [NEW] Dodge windows does not work after connecting external display

2011-10-07 Thread Peter Hedlund
Public bug reported:

After connecting and switching to an external display Dodge Windows no
longer works. Running unity --replace remedies the problem. Another
workaround is to activate Reveal Mode BottomLeft. There seems to be an
issue specifically with Reveal Mode Left.

[Bug 846740] Re: MacBook Air 3,2 does not resume from suspend

2011-09-19 Thread Peter Hedlund
Sorry for the confusion. The report does apply to the nouveau driver. I
was pleasantly surprised to see it working at all, as it did not in
Natty.

I had to install the binary driver to get a more useful system.

The same applies to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/846741.

[Bug 840454] Re: Power preferences does not have an option for Laptop Lid Close behavior

2011-09-13 Thread Peter Hedlund
In my opinion it is very important to be able to close the lid without
suspending when connecting external monitor, keyboard and mouse.

[Bug 795342] [NEW] Email clients fail to reconnect after ip address change

2011-06-09 Thread Peter Hedlund
Public bug reported:

Email clients (tested with KMail and Thunderbird) fail to reconnect when
my laptop has been suspended and moved to a different location and then
resumed. Wifi reconnects just fine and I can use any browser, but tested
email programs fail to connect to IMAP servers.

KMail usually shows a message about retrieving folders for namespace
whereas Thunderbird just hangs. KMail works somewhat better as network
activity can be canceled and restarted within the program whereas
Thunderbird needs to be terminated and restarted.

Here is an old KDE bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74484 but
this does not only affect KMail.

[Bug 745220] Re: Kerneloops in mac20811 on Macbook Air

2011-04-04 Thread Peter Hedlund
Thanks for your response. But that is a little like saying I might find
running Mac OS X even more stable...

Being able to use the new in-kernel driver was one major reason for
upgrading to Natty. It is fairly stable and the fact that it reconnects
almost instantly when resuming from sleep is a major step forward.

I have the same problem when trying to report an issue probably in the
mac80211 driver on Kubuntu Natty.

[Bug 624562] Re: Reporting kerneloops fails with permission denied

2011-03-29 Thread Peter Hedlund
It seems that there are a couple of workarounds:

Alt-F2 to run kdesu ubuntu-bug linux works.

Running ubuntu-bug -p linux in a terminal also works.
