Re: [Bug 280838] Re: xfce4-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_screen_get_monitor_geometry()
Hi Charlie, I'm not sure. Twinview is a way to a means for me, so I encountered this bug during reconfiguration. The problem is: if I don't use a two step approach, my TV will switch off as soon as the VGA signal disappears, and while I wished my DVI input would have the same behaviour, I have to manually switch off after bringing my PC down. Anyhow, I am running 2.6.27-9 generic now and am not seeing any problematic behaviour now. I have however some other problems since my last upgrade, like updates not being downloaded and applied, mythfrontend and backend not starting automatically (some message about my last session only 10 secs) but at a loss how to troubleshoot. Luckily my wife succumbed to typing it in in the mean time. Hope to upgrade to 2.6.28 soon. [Bug 280871] [NEW] NVidia screen setup becomes invalid after apply was successful and xorg.conf is active after reboot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings Version: Linux pandora 2.6.27-6-generic #1 SMP Tue Oct 7 04:15:23 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux Was working fine in 2.6.27-3 Setup: Sony TV connected with both VGA cable and DVI cable to the same Asrock motherboard with NVidia 7050 chip. I had to reconfigure because the system always defaults to xforcevesa when upgrading to higher kernel. I start off on the VGA screen, because the DVI screen will default to virtual 1024 X 768, which leaves essential controls off the screen. Then I configure the NIVidia driver and reboot to activate. Then I activate the DFP port (DVI/HDMI) to Twinview mode. Then I disable the VGA (CRT) port. I press apply and only the DVI port now shows a screen. One thing to note here is that the screen is split as if both side by side views are now on this one physical screen. I see the same thing in VNC mode: twice the width. NOw I save to xorg.conf, but this always fails. So, I use preview mode to save the contents, get into vi and create a new file and then copy it over the existing xorg.conf. Then I reboot. During reboot, it gives me a message that xorg.conf is invalid and I have to start from scratch. I will restore a xorg.conf from before sunday, and see if that works. ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NVidia screen setup becomes invalid after apply was successful and xorg.conf is active after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280871 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 280095] Re: NVidia configuration utility fails to write to xorg.conf
I dunno what you mean with DKMS love, (I'm not entirey new to Linux but have been mainly a Windows guy) but as long as it fixes it, it's OK with me. I'm just looking at bug 59618 and if you see that discussion, you see what I mean. This is one of my big grudges: just getting standard hardware is a pain, and keeping it running takes a half a day at a time. I still don't have a working configuration, and still trying to figure out what xforcevesa is supposed to do. I'm afraid there's one more bug: once you install Mythbuntu from a LiveCD, and are forced to use safe mode graphics, grub has this as a standard option, and you end up using vesa all the time. As a matter of fact, this may be the source of all my hell. So, as soon as I've understood how to read a menu.lst, I might even be able to confirm to this, as I will be forced to build a new kernel for my Digital Everywhere FloppyDTV card. I will have to go through this again I think. Thanks anyway that you spend time on it! 2008/10/8 Jonathan Carter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Seems like it could do with a bit more DKMS love. [Bug 280106] [NEW] NVidia configuration window size exceeds VGA, which is hard in recovery mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings When I connect my Sony LCD TV to my NVidia driven DVI port, the screen size is VGA until an appriopriate driver is available. So, whenever nvidia settings or any graphics settings are needed, the window whould be restricted to 640X480. At this time, I need to connect a VGA cable to VGA out and to my DSub connector on my TV< then configure, then disable the port later on. This procedure adds 30 minutes to any configuration. Combined to various other problems (NVidia driver not preserved when switching kernel versions, display not autodetected, xorg.conf not being saved, it is a real nightmare to move ahead. Symptoms: when you have the correct driver running, the VGA port will be in 640X480 mode. To change anything on the screen, you need to guess where you are, or know all shortcuts on buttons to be able to reconfigure. This is because the buttons are beyond the bottom edge of the screen, when in VGA mode. ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NVidia configuration window size exceeds VGA, which is hard in recovery mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 280095] [NEW] NVidia configuration utility fails to write to xorg.conf
Public bug reported: After every kernel upgrade (using the normal dev updates, no making or compiling) I need to configure my NVidia restricted driver again. After loading and activating the driver, I need to configure it for my Sony LCD TV which is connected on the DVI connector. It can not be detected automatically, which is also fine. After setting the DVO port and making the port the primary display, I apply changes. This works. Now when I try to save the changes, I can never save the xorg.conf, it says access denied. I need to copy the text and then manually change the settings in xorg.conf or overwrite the settings.
