Re: [Bug 567606] Re: Power option "switch from .." gives black screen

2011-02-23 Thread Peter Ralph
I have just tried it with Ubuntu 10.10 and it does not happen. I
also tried it with Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-25 and it did not happen there
either.

I am happy to do any other trials.

However, if I start, * switch to another user * and then try to

Re: [Bug 500791] Re: package grub-pc 1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-02-08 Thread Peter Ralph
Hi, particularly to Jean-Baptiste Lallement,

I confirm that I am using SATA RAID.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the error no longer causes me
trouble because there has been an update to Ubuntu 9.10 and that
installed? everything properly.

  Regards and Thank you ,
 Peter Ralph

Reminder: The symptoms of the original report is simply
Setting up grub-pc (1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4.1) ...
dpkg: error processing grub-pc (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 1

@Gohan: Your error is
Generating grub.cfg ...
No path or device is specified.
Try ``grub-probe --help'' for more information.

You probably changed something in /etc/grub.d/ ( in 05_debian_theme ?)

@Cubunt: Your problem is
Generating core.img
grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for `isw_ebbebjhjjj_ubla1'
Auto-detection of a filesystem module failed.

This is likely that you're using SATA Raid.

Definitely not the same problem as the original poster.

[Bug 489778] Re: package grub-pc 1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-12-06 Thread Peter Ralph
I started Linux 2.6.31-14 earlier this afternoon and shortly after I got a
screen telling me there were important updates. I downloaded and installed
them and am now running Linux 2.6.31-16, the default os in grub. So the
problem with 31-15 is of no importance to me now.
Problem solved?

[Bug 489778] [NEW] package grub-pc 1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-11-28 Thread Peter Ralph
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

Very new to Ubuntu problems.I had 9.04 installed and running and
have just installed 9.10 from live CD.Accepted defaults during
installation. Whilst running "Mines" or some other game, got told
there were a pile of updates so updated and installed them. About 100
MB? download, included FireFox 3.5 and help shows FireFox is 3.5.5.
Installation ended up asking for restart bur on restarting it fails to
find some dev and ends up with a DOS directory initramfs and says type
help.I don't understand it and typing in exit does not get me out.
ctrl/alt£&del gets me restarted. Tried starting second choice, a
recovery choice, but that ends up with the same fault.

Restarted and selected the third choice, finishes with 14 rather than
15?, and everything works normally and I found this crash report in the
top RH corner.

Using Raid 5 with three H/D on an AMD64 quad cpu
