[Bug 1574700] Re: Silent mode does not turn off ALL sounds
Then this should be rephrased as a change request. I think the fact that there is ABSOLUTELY no option to ensure that apps DO NOT play sound UNEXPECTEDLY is unacceptable. This should either be a sound setting or a browser option, or an app permissions option, but there should be some way of reaching this functionality without the user having to carry a dummy jack plug with him Or there should be a dialog box, mainly in the browser, that sais "You are currently in silent mode but the website abcd would like to play sound. Would you like this site to start sound playback?" Alarms are a different thing because you set them yourself, and are well aware of the fact that they will - and should always - sound. I personally encountered this problem once when I wanted to look up the translation of the text of a musical work while I was at a concert, and the website which contained the text actually started playing the music. I think there is no more need to explain how embarrassing that is. Another time I wanted to look up a timetable at a bus stop and it turned out that the transport company's website had an advertisement which played back sound. Loudly. So all in all I really think that this is an issue which should have a solution at some software level. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574700 Title: Silent mode does not turn off ALL sounds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/1574700/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995319] [NEW] Scrollbars in Dash are way too narrow, usability affected
Public bug reported: This is not a bug as such, but an important usability issue. Many users not acquainted with Ubuntu's application names have the situation quite often, that they would like to look through the list of all installed apps in order to find something. You open Dash, switch to the appropriate tab, see the list of apps - however, the 3px wide scrollbar found here is very very awkward to use. Many people do not have a mouse wheel, so I would suggest offering a better solution here. - either by implementing the standard scrolling in Ubuntu 12.04 with the small "handle" popping up - or by making the scrollbar wider - and last but not least: I'd personally make a very small area left and right of the scrollbar click-insensitive. It happens very often with me that I try to catch the scrollbar but I click a pixel too far and the whole Dash disappears. ** Affects: dash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995319 Title: Scrollbars in Dash are way too narrow, usability affected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dash/+bug/995319/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995303] [NEW] Ubiquity terminated at the user picture selection screen
Public bug reported: I tried to install Ubuntu by using a bootable USB key. At first, ubiquity hung shortly after detecting my webcam and presenting me with the user avatar selection screen. The message that appeared was something like: a critical error has occured, you will be presented a desktop session to resolve the problem. Apport did not appear at this point. >From this desktop session I relaunched ubiquity. This time it hung straight away, presenting an Apport bug tracing screen. I unfortunately cannot tell you anything else about this error because Apport terminated and thus I was not presented with a log. At my third try an error occured at the same pont as the first time, with the slight difference that Ubiquity simply terminated (the window diesappeared) without calling any error handling routine. At my fourth try it succeeded I'm using an ASUS X52s Laptop with a built-in webcam. [Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information
Thanks, Michael, now the picture is getting clear to me. I thought the functionality thus far was that update-manager just appeared under all windows (there was some discussion about a pop-under), showing up only after all windows have been closed or its taskbar button has been clicked. The reason why I didn't know was that as updmanager showed no trace at my PC at all since my Jaunty upgrade, thus I got used to checking for updates manually every day. So if the taskbar button really gets some kind of a flashing effect then it's a good approach indeed. -- [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332945 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
