It is disappointing as I went through the tedious process of migrating from Evolution to Thunderbird as Evolution used to crash repeatedly two or three versions of Ubuntu ago. I have tried to access the information in bug report #1235164 as suggested in the previous comment but when I click on the link I get the message that the page does not exist!! Tried these Compiz tweaks - still didn't fix the problem. [Bug 322160] [NEW] Evolution doesn't offer options to open attachments with content-type of application/octet-stream
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I am reporting this bug even though it is being reported as fixed - see bug #273736. I perform all updates regularly and the bug is still not fixed. Evolution will not offer options to open attachments when the mailer program incorrectly lists the Content-Type as application/octet- stream. I realise that this is more a problem with the sender's end but it worked perfectly in Hardy and only stopped working after upgrading to Intrepid. This happens to me with many types of attachments - pdf, pps, doc, wmv.
