2012-05-15 Thread Petter Aas
Public bug reported:

After upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 it tried to upgrade mysql-server-5.1 to
mysql-server-5.5 this upgrade broke. I didn't really have an y needed
databases, so I purged all mysql-server related packages. After this I'm
still unable to get mysql-server-5.5 installed.

sudo aptitude install mysql-server breaks after I've set root password.

[Bug 436527] Re: nfs-kernel-server, several shares in /etc/exports shows same partition on client

2009-09-27 Thread Petter Aas
update:

I removed my existing /etc/exports and wrote a new one after reading
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/nfs-server-and-client-configuration-in-
ubuntu.html

:

/pub 10.0.0.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)
/pub2 10.0.0.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)
/p 10.0.0.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)

df -hT on client now:
10.0.0.2:/pub nfs 2,3T 1,1T 1,2T 48% /pub
10.0.0.2:/pub2 nfs1,8T 915G 827G 53% /pub2
10.0.0.2:/p nfs299G 49G 250G 17% /p

so perhaps its not a bug afterall, but I still find it peculiar that my
old exports worked in 9.04 and not 9.10...

[Bug 436527] Re: nfs-kernel-server, several shares in /etc/exports shows same partition on client

2009-09-25 Thread Petter Aas
update:

I've just found this in /var/log/daemon.log on nfs server

Sep 26 00:01:11 nfs-server mountd[8861]: /pub2 and /pub have same filehandle
for 10.0.0.0/24, using first
Sep 26 00:01:11 nfs-server mountd[8861]: /pub2 and /private have same
filehandle for 10.0.0.0/24, using first

has there been any significant changes to the way /etc/exports is
supposed to look like in ubuntu 9.10?

[Bug 436527] [NEW] nfs-kernel-server, several shares in /etc/exports shows same partition on client

2009-09-25 Thread Petter Aas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nfs-kernel-server

after updating a private file-server from 9.04 to 9.10 I got a strange
problem with my nfs shares on it,

/etc/exports :
/pub2 10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)
/pub10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)
/p 10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)

df -hT on nfs server:
/dev/md6 ext41,8T 915G 827G 53% /pub2
/dev/sdg btrfs2,3T 1,1T 1,2T 48% /pub
/dev/sde1 reiserfs299G 55G 244G 19% /p

df -hT on a client with nfs shares from the server:
10.0.0.2:/pub nfs1,8T 915G 827G 53% /pub
10.0.0.2:/pub2 nfs1,8T 915G 827G 53% /pub2
10.0.0.2:/p nfs1,8T 915G 827G 53% /p

( ps: look at disk sizes)

( I have three client with the same result, one 9.04, one 9.10 and a
PopCornHour A110)

so you see that the client gets three version of 'pub2' under the
'correct' names, if I resort /etc/exports to something else like

/p 10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)
/pub2 10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)
/pub10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,subtree_check)

the client will get three versions of '/p' still with the 'correct'
names. Except for sorting the shares in various ways, I have not done
any other changes to /etc/exports after updating from 9.04 to 9.10...

[Bug 115283] Re: random system freeze when desktop-effects activated

2007-09-14 Thread Petter Aas
Well the thing is after a few more upgrades, I couldn't start compiz at
all, but then i read a post at ubuntuforums where a user had the same
problem, he made a new "clean" user and with that he could get compiz
running, this works for me on my x60s (intel card), but on two other
laptops I've tried it (an older CL56 (ati card) and a brand new T61
(nvidia card)) making a new user and running "compiz --replace -c
emerald &" just crashes in the same way as with the original user.

the error I get when compiz crashes is:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ compiz --replace -c emerald &
[1] 29727
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Checking for Xgl: not present.
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Error: Couldn't load

I think I saw something like this reported as another bug already, so I
will lookup that again instead of going more o.t. here.

back on topic: as of yet I haven't seen the bug described in this thread
when running compiz with the second user on my x60s, so I really can't
give you anymore details than in my earlier posts on how to reproduce
the "freeze"...

[Bug 115283] Re: random system freeze when desktop-effects activated

2007-08-31 Thread Petter Aas
This is mostly the same as I have experienced (and still do) on a
Thinkpad x60s.

It all started after a "aptitude upgrade" sometime sunday (GMT+1) two
weeks ago, and also after I (for other reasons) did a full reinstall
with Gutsy (tribe5) yesterday.

I'm not quite sure if it is totally random because it happens almost
everytime I try to resize a xterm window with the mouse, cursor is then
"looked" in "resize mode", but I can still move it. I can't remember to
have seen this when not resizing a xterm.

The only way I can get out of the "freeze" is by doing a hard shutdown
(aka pulling the plug), when I start the computer again after that
compiz is up but I have to do a "emerald --replace &" to get emerald up.

I have not tried to ssh in while in "freeze", I can try that next time
it happens, but as I consider "pulling the plug" a pretty fatal action I
don't want to do it more than absolutely necessary.

And yes it only happens with Compiz activated.
