[Bug 412274] Re: Input Freezes in Jaunty (Not Xorg)

2009-08-12 Thread Philip Morrell
Thank you for reporting a bug in Linux Mint. Unfortunately I cannot
reproduce your problem, so it's likely that you've changed something as
root (using sudo) that has messed up your configuration. If you can
reproduce the bug in a fresh install (probably a virtual machine, or a
new user account) then please detail the steps necessary, including any
extra software you added. Please also check out the Linux Mint Forums,
where there are many more people available to help out with diagnosing
any problems you have. You might also like to check out this article:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html This is a
standard response, so it may not be entirely appropriate.

Additionally, this sounds like a hardware problem, so more info on that
would be useful. Have you tried booting into recovery/safe mode which
should allow you to diagnose the problem, and allow you to get the
output of the inxi -F hardware info command too.

[Bug 399464] Re: Mint cannot fully resume from sleep

2009-07-20 Thread Philip Morrell
Actually, F11 uses the 2.6.29 kernel series, whereas Jaunty/Gloria use
2.6.28, which obviously has less hardware support, so you can't be using
the same driver versions on both installs. Seeing as you said it
happens on Ubuntu too, I've forwarded it upstream, but it's unlikely
they'll be able to help you either. If you want to increase your
chances, paste the output of the "inxi -F" command for the various
hardware information.

According to Launchpad Janitor (from archive auto-sync), this bug has
been fixed, so status was changed from confirmed to fix released.
However the original bug-report dealt only with the emblem issue, so the
status should in reality be invalid for nautilus-shares and confirmed
for nautilus. I admit it doesn't help that I hi-jacked this thread by
forwarding a second, related bug from altair at the same time as
confirming this one, when in fact I really should have opened a new bug.
I guess the easiest (rather than correct) way to sort this would just be
to edit the original bug report to reflect the write issue too.

p.s. thanks for all your help in the rapid resolution of the writable
issue though!

Altair confirms that the emblem bug is only for the base folders e.g.

Also, I've just noticed that the original bug report was for intrepid.
Altair provides these version numbers for his situation:

nautilus 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2
nautilus-share 0.7.2-4ubuntu1
kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
arch i686 (32 bit)
distro Linux Mint 7 Gloria - Main Edition (based on Jaunty)

[Bug 280480] Re: Sharing Icons don't show except for Downloads folder

2009-06-17 Thread Philip Morrell
Ok, drifting into the area of speculation here: I seem to remember
reading somewhere that there's a package (or even just a util) that
deals with the naming of these base folders for internationalisation
reasons (if you login with a new language, it'll dynamically rename the
folders to account for this change). Could this perhaps be affecting
the issue at all, as it's another base-folder specific manipulation
tool. If not, no worries, it was just speculation, though you seem to
have identified exactly where the issue is.

[Bug 280480] Re: Sharing Icons don't show except for Downloads folder

2009-06-16 Thread Philip Morrell
Daniel: that'd be great thanks, I'm sure altair will test it to check it
works (he is following this bug, but just doesn't have lp acc.).

from Altair:
emblem: It will happen to any and all folders not just Documents. I just shared
Documents, Pictures, and Videos. Logout - login - share icon lost.
write: that's good news, thanks
properties: The Properties > Share tab being cleared of options is tricky. It
doesn't completely vanish at a predictable number of reboots or logins. I can
appreciate his difficulty on this one.

[Bug 280480] Re: Sharing Icons don't show except for Downloads folder

2009-06-16 Thread Philip Morrell
It's about to get stranger - Altair details the steps he took:

(1) "Un-shared" my Documents share
(2) Rebooted - just in case
(3) Started nautilus from a terminal and from within nautilus recreated my
Documents share. ( share / write / guest = yes )
(4) Logged off and on again
(5) Launched nautilus from a terminal
(6) Looked at Properties > Share to verify that it was still broke

There was no output in the terminal of any kind.

Note: In this particular case the icon was in an "unshared" state but
the properties > share state indicated that it was still shared with
guest access enabled but "write" was disabled. As I stated in my
original post it takes repeated logins before the properties tab is
completely cleared of ticked options. And I was able to write from a
remote machine

I can confirm this bug, we've had several people report this in the mint
forums. It also affects the properties tab of the shared folder reporting that
it's no longer shared, when full access is possible from other machines:

[Bug 213948] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV with flash plugin

2008-04-10 Thread Philip Morrell
Just some more info about its reproducability:
https://www.bwin.com/ crashes without fail approximately 3 seconds after the
page seems to have finished loading, this happens in forground and background
tabs, with and without mouse action
http://youtube.com/ crashes infrequently, always upon loading a video (i.e. if
the video has started, you're safe), reloading the same video will not
reproduce the bug

various other sites crash very rarely: http://www.miniclip.com/
http://www.megavideo.com/

flashplugin-nonfree9.0.124.0ubuntu1
firefox 3.0 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

hope this helps

[Bug 209516] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2008-04-09 Thread Philip Morrell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 213948 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213948

I think this is not a duplicate, because this one mentions using
"shockwave flash 9.0 r115 plugin". I would suggest ignoring it since I
had the flash crashing problem only with the Gnash plugin (unfortunately
not mature enough yet it seems, though I can't remember the version
number), completely removing it and installing the non-free plugin
(listed in the "add-ons" dialogue as the r115 mentioned) solved the
problem.

[Bug 213948] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV with flash plugin

2008-04-09 Thread Philip Morrell
I can confirm this bug when using the gnash plugin, only occasionally
leading to a full crash, more often than not just either collapsing or
blanking the flash content area. Removing the plugin, then installing
the non-free adobe plugin (labelled as version 9.0 r115) solves the
problem.
