[Bug 63789] FEATURE REQUEST: include linux-phc patch in kernel

2006-10-03 Thread Philipp Dreimann
Public bug reported:

For many users with Pentium M processors this patch is really nice.

Webpage: https://www.dedigentoo.org/trac/linux-phc/

Another idea might be a seperate kernel package for Pentium M users;
with all optimations possible for them.

It's not easy to compile an own kernel for many users because e.g. the
restricted modules packages don't work with an own kernel... maybe that
should be made more easy..

[Bug 36424] Re: oo2 failed to load file from ftp in nautilus

2006-10-25 Thread Philipp Dreimann
I've the same problem here with OO 2.0.4-0ubuntu2.

I tried to open a file with the open-dialog in openoffice. In the
"Places"-area on the left side there is a saved ftp-connection. I'm able
to list files and directories there but it's not possible to open or
save a file to that ftp-connection with openoffice.

The ftp-connection needs an username and an password to login.

I'm using edgy.

2006-12-04 Thread Philipp Dreimann
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63789 ***

i dont think that this bug is a duplicate of #63789 .

 - on my laptop only speedstep-centrino gets loaded on a clean edgy install
 - with 2.6.17 i only have two steps; with 2.6.18 (also without the phc patch)
4 or 5.

--> it has nothing todo with the phc patch imho

2006-11-12 Thread Philipp Dreimann
i talked to the maintainers and they told me that to include it in the
mainline kernel is nearly impossible. Look at
http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/7/4/246 .

if the patch can't get in ubuntu, maybe a seperate package with the
patched speedstep-centrino module will help the users to use this
feature...

i'm working on a test package.

[Bug 72429] the radeon module doesn't allow my processor to go in another power state than c2

2006-11-19 Thread Philipp Dreimann

Normally since edgy (afaik) the radeon module is loaded at boot time.

/proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power tells me that my processor uses only the
c2 state when the module is loaded and X is running on the active

Without the module loaded, my processor uses the states c2 to -4.

surprisingly everything works.

[Bug 63789] Re: FEATURE REQUEST: include linux-phc patch in kernel

2007-03-22 Thread Philipp Dreimann
Is it only a problem when users overvolt their hardware or also when
they undervolt the hardware (beside freezes of course!) ?

If only overclocking is a real problem I think that it shouldn't be that
hard to implement a limit based on the cpu default tables...

For users with bad acpi tables the build in frequency tables are a
solution, but my intention was to have the undervolt functionality in
Ubuntu to have much longer battery runtime...

Beside this all: Why should Ubuntu protect it's users more than Microsoft..?

[Bug 248725] [NEW] fingerprinter authentication occasionally disappears

2008-07-15 Thread Philipp Dreimann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I'm running gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 and I installed the
thinkfinger tools.

When I resume my system from standby, I often have to enter a wrong
password be able to use the fingerprint authentication.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1 with the linux-image-2.6.26-3-generic kernel
from Intrepid because my fingerprint reader was not deteced by the hardy
kernel.

Beside the problem with the gnome-screensaver the finger printer works
as expected.

The thinkfinger-tools have version 0.3+r118-0ubuntu3.

[Bug 63789] Re: FEATURE REQUEST: include linux-phc patch in kernel

2007-04-19 Thread Philipp Dreimann
its confirmed by ben but should IMHO not be treated as already fixed!

** Description changed:

For many users with Pentium M processors this patch is really nice.

  Webpage: https://www.dedigentoo.org/trac/linux-phc/

  Another idea might be a seperate kernel package for Pentium M users;
with all optimations possible for them.

It's not easy to compile an own kernel for many users because e.g. the
restricted modules packages don't work with an own kernel... maybe that
  should be made more easy..
+
+ [added 2007-04-19]
+ As the discussion shows below we'd like to have the wohl linux-phc patch
included especially the manual undervolting part!

[Bug 281235] [NEW] regression (hardy -> Intrepid) fingerprinter authentication requires now a new user action

2008-10-10 Thread Philipp Dreimann
Public bug reported:

When authenticating via libpam-thinkfinger the following should happen:

1. User wants to authenticate itself
2. Program (e.g. sudo, gksudo, ..) promts for password or fingerprint
2.1 in case of password authentication the user must say that the password is
complete in the provided place by the program with pressing ok somewhere
3a. If a problem occured back to 1 or to an error message
3b. If everythings fine the authentication is successful.

In Hardy is was nearly like described above. There was not in every case a
error message when the fingerprinter authentication failed but that was
somewhat okay.

Now after using the fingerprinter programs like sudo oder gksudo are
waiting for an action of the user to say "okay, the fingerprint is now
okay". So in case of sudo return has to be pressed. I think the behavior
should be changed again to the hardy state.

I disable bluetooth by using the Fn+F5 key combination. (Which is the

I looked at the bluetooth entries in the places you told me. But nothing
seems to happen there.

Here is are some information from dmesg:

[Bug 274731] Re: weather radar picture doesn't show up

2008-09-26 Thread Philipp Dreimann
As I never see a picture I think it is reproducible.

The steps are:

1. Add the weather applet to you panel.
2. Go to the settings and activate the radar.
3. Choose any location you'd like to. ( I tried several including e.g. Budapest)
4. Open the detailed view and switch to the radar tab.

[Bug 248725] [NEW] fingerprinter authentication occasionally disappears

2008-07-15 Thread Philipp Dreimann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I'm running gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 and I installed the
thinkfinger tools.

When I resume my system from standby, I often have to enter a wrong
password be able to use the fingerprint authentication.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1 with the linux-image-2.6.26-3-generic kernel
from Intrepid because my fingerprint reader was not deteced by the hardy
kernel.

Beside the problem with the gnome-screensaver the finger printer works
as expected.

The thinkfinger-tools have version 0.3+r118-0ubuntu3.
