[Bug 522299] Re: Nepomuk-based search returns no results

2010-02-16 Thread Philipp Ehses
I have a similar problem in karmic with KDE 4.4 installed (from kubuntu-
ppa backports).

However, shared-desktop-ontologies was already installed by default.
Search in dolphin AND krunner does not return any results at all
(krunner only returns installed programs).

arstechnica.com seems to have the same problem: I didn't have much luck
getting the search feature to work in Dolphin during my tests, but I
suspect that the problems I encountered were due to distro integration
issues. (http://arstechnica.com/open-source/reviews/2010/02/hands-on-

Rebuild the index and it seems to work now (maybe shared-desktop-
ontologies was installed during a recent update?). Although short search
terms (like 3 letters) still don't work.

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2009-10-31 Thread Philipp Ehses

Just to clear things up, this was the error message I was getting:

iwlagn :0c:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x8200.

The u-code files from opensuse fixed this bug completely for me - weird that
I'm apparently the exception...

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2009-10-29 Thread Philipp Ehses
Hi Steve,

sorry, I wasn't aware of the licensing issue.

The firmware comes from openSuSE 11.1. I did a quick search and found
out that they are included in the following (rpm) packages:

iwl3945-ucode
iwl4965-ucode
iwl5000-ucode

zypper info returns this (shortened)::

Name: iwl3945-ucode
Version: 15.28.1.8-1.7

Name: iwl4965-ucode
Version: 228.57.2.23-1.1.1

Name: iwl5000-ucode
Version: 5.4.A.11-2.9

I had a quick look in the README and LICENSE files which come with the
firmware, and it seems that redistribution is allowed as long as the binaries
are unchanged and the license files are attached (which I can easily provide,
or we can just get the rpm packages which include them as well). Here's an
excerpt:

Redistribution. Redistribution and use in binary form, without
modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are
met:

* Redistributions must reproduce the above copyright notice and the
following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials

2009-10-28 Thread Philipp Ehses
Hey Jordi, thanks for suggesting a very obvious and simple solution -
just using a different u-code ;-)

I just copied iwlwifi-4965-1.ucode and iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode from my
opensuse partition to the ubuntu partition and it seems to work just
fine! I have attached all iwlwifi firmwares I found in opensuse in case
anyone else wants to try this. Btw Jordi, copying the firmware into
/usr/lib/firmware should be everything you need to do (apart from
reloading the modules which you can do with rmmod/modprobe or - easier -
a reboot).

Therefore this bug seems to be ubuntu-related and not a bug from

[Bug 275288] [NEW] search options in resolv.conf are separated by \032 instead of a blank

2008-09-27 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

NetworkManager creates a faulty resolv.conf on my university computer.
It worked before with hardy (and also with earlier versions of intrepid)
so I don't think it's a problem with the dhcp server. The automatically
created resolv.conf looks like this (i removed ips and changed domain
names):

# Generated by NetworkManager
domain domain1.de
search domain1.de\032domain2.de\032domain3.de
nameserver x.x.x
nameserver x.x.x

As you can see, the search domains are separated by \032 instead of a simple
blank. Therefore I have to add the domain name in order to reach a computer on
my network (or change the faulty line in resolv.conf after each reboot...). A
minor annoyance which I can live with or can fix by myself but I'm wondering if
anybody else experiences a similar problem?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: guidance-power-manager

Whenever I switch to powersave policy in guidance-powermanager the
screen goes black and the screen gets locked (like after a resume).
Disabling Lock screen on resume will help with the latter but the
screen still goes black for a second or so.

Switching to dynamic or performance works fine, though (no black or
locked screen at all).

intrepid kubuntu (kde4.1) on a dell xps m1330 with intel graphics.

[Bug 160928] no X with nvidia-glx-new and gf 7300le

2007-11-08 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

I'm fully aware that there are a many nvidia-related bug-report right
now but I didn't find one which matches my problem:

I'm trying to get 3D-acceleration to work with an Geforce 7300LE card
(with 1600x1200 resolution).

First step: Restricted Driver Management - didn't work, then envy -
didn't work either, manually editing xorg.conf ...

I have absolutely no idea what went wrong.

[Bug 127522] gutsy: system freezes in battery mode

2007-07-22 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

I'm running kubuntu gutsy with the latest update and kernel
(2.6.22-8-generic) on an Samsung X20 V (pentium M, 1.6 GHz, intel 915gm
chipset graphics)

Since some recent updates my system freezes while running on battery. It
seems that the hard disk doesn't come out of standby mode but I'm not
sure. Connecting it to the power socket again seems to wake up the hard
disk but doesn't help with the freeze. Only a reboot helps.

There is already bug #123463 which may be related. It is only reported
for xfce, tough.

[Bug 105454] gtk styles fonts: can't switch back to use another font

2007-04-11 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

I switched from kubuntu feisty's default setting use another font to
use my kde fonts in gtk applications. Now I would like to change the
setting back to its original state. I can do that but the new setting is
not saved (after a restart of systemsettings use my kde fonts... is
selected again - and yes I did hit the apply button).

Problem is that since I first changed this setting, the fonts in matlab
(the Mathworks) got really tiny (maximum font size of 48pt is barely
readable). I'm not really sure if this setting caused this weird
behaviour or if it is related to an update of another package.

[Bug 92925] Impossible to change mountpoint for non-linux partitions in kubuntu-desktop install

2007-03-16 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

The kubuntu-installer (from the live-desktop-cd, feisty herd5) mounts
ntfs-partitions to /media/devicename (e.g. /media/hda1).

It is not straightforward to change this mountpoint - the only
possibility is to change the partition type temporarily to ext3 (or xfs
or whatever) so that the mountpoint can be changed (e.g.
/media/windows). After changing the partition type back to ntfs
everything works fine.

A simple and minor bug which should be easily fixable.

Btw: Wouldn't it be nice if windows partitions would be bound to
/media/windows (1, 2, 3, etc.) by default, so that new users wouldn't be
puzzled by these cryptic device names?

[Bug 62840] can't access kerry's search results

2006-09-28 Thread Philipp Ehses
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kerry

Since kerry got a new face, clicking on search results won't open the
associated document. Right clicking and chosing 'open' or 'reveal in
folder' or 'email' won't work either.

Btw., there are no file-type icons shown, too.

I'm using kubuntu edgy knot-3 (last dist-upgrade 5 min ago).
