[Bug 1584953] [NEW] backport fix for /proc/net issues with containers

2016-05-23 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

Request to backport Kernel changes from Kernel 4.5 to lts kernel 4.4 for
xenial and if possible to lts kernel for 14.04

Change upstream:
netfilter: Set /proc/net entries owner to root in namespace
http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/pablo/nf-next.git/commit/?id=f13f2aeed154da8e48f90b85e720f8ba39b1e881

This is the Kernel-side part of the fix for "iptables-save does not work inside
lxd containers"
https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/1978#issuecomment-220998013

The necessary changes in lxc landed in lxc/lxd
https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/1014 and is available in version 2.0.1,
currently in xenial-proposed.

It would be great if this would be backported asap. As it allows to
manage the firewall within lxd instances using Puppet and probably other
configuration management systems. And to use iptables-save manually

If the bug is fixed, can it be backported to the LTS? As rhythmbox is part of
the default application set and a playing CDs a major feature of a music
player.
This bug is also marked, that it affects OEM Priority Projects. But the bug is

[Bug 1103547] Re: drag and drop does not work language support not complete

2013-02-10 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Thank you!
In my case, that will solve the problem.

But if you don't want to deliver full language support e.g. don't
install gimp-help-de you will still encounter the drag'n'drop bug.

I tried to reproduce the bug in a 32bit and in a 64bit virtualbox
precise installation, with and without Guest Additions (3D-Acceleration)
there the Bug is NOT reproduceable.

But on my real system 64bit, nvidia proprietary driver the bug is
reproduceable, as it is on a few machines at work. I'll try to check
whether the nvidia-driver is the jumping point.

[Bug 1103547] Re: drag and drop does not work language support not complete

2013-02-10 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Update: It's not driver related. It's some kind of randomness.
I removed the nvidia-drivers on my machine and retried it. Sometimes it
worked, sometimes it didn't. I couldn't figure out a pattern, it seems I can do
the same procedure once it worked, and the next time, it didn't, and again the
next time it worked again.
I checked whether it makes a difference whether I first unfold the list and
focus it, but it looks really random.
Here's a screencast: http://ubuntuone.com/3Zz7NvwEV8xlnHF7hgTjXX

After I recognised, that it is random, I retried it in virtualbox
(64bit32bit, 3D Unity) and the second time I tried, the bug was there
too.

[Bug 1103547] Re: drag and drop does not work language support not complete

2013-02-08 Thread Philipp Gassmann
The bug fixed is the -frami issue on raring, but not on precise.

But the main point of my report was the drag and drop that is not
working.

I also think that this fix should be backported to precise because of
its usage in enterprises, where multiple locales are more common and the
preferences of users diverse.

[Bug 1103547] [NEW] drag and drop does not work language support not complete

2013-01-23 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

After dismissing the notification, that language-support is incomplete,
drag and drop of the available languages does not work.

Workaround:
1. Press Ctrl and Drag something Does not change order.
2. Release Ctrl. Drag and drop ordering works.

Related Problem: The frami versions of the German hunspell packs are not
recognised as a replacement for the default hunspell.
(e.g. hunspell-de-ch-frami is enhanced variant of hunspell-de-ch)
So every time gnome-language-selector is started, it asks to install
hunspell-de-ch which conflicts without any notice!

[Bug 1100190] [NEW] I/O Error while opening file from WebDAV over GVFS from Nautilus

2013-01-16 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

Problem description:
Error when opening a file from Nautilus with LibreOffice when the file is
WebDAV mounted with GVFS.

The Same file can be opened from the same location from within
LibreOffice, with the Open File Dialogue. Then you get asked for the
Username and Password and Libreoffice seems to access the file directly
over HTTP.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Mount a DAV Folder with Nautilus.
URL in my Case:
dav://admin@10.1.10.58:8080/alfresco/webdav/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco%20WebDAV%20Test/
2. Open a file with LibreOffice by doubleclick or context menu from Nautilus.
4. Error occurs.
Exact message:
(-) «General input/output error while accessing /home/pgassmann/.gvfs/WebDAV\
als\ admin\ auf\ 10.1.10.58%3A8080/Sites/puzzletest/documentLibrary/Alfresco\
WebDAV\ Test/Neu.odt.» [OK]

Working Variant:
1. = 1. above
2. Start LibreOffice
3. Open File dialogue from LibreOffice
4. Select the same file and click Open.
5. LibreOffice Dialogue: Authentication Required, Enter user name and
password for: Alfresco DAV Server on 10.1.10.58
6. Enter Username and password, click OK
7. File opens correctly

LibreOffice Version:
3.5.2-2ubuntu1

Involved Software:
LibreOffice, Nautilus, GVFS, Alfresco

Current behavior:
Opening file from Nautilus causes Error,
Opening from LibreOffice Open File dialogue asks for credentials and works
correctly

Expected behavior:
Opening from Nautilus works.
Opening from Open File dialog works without asking for credentials.

Attachment: strace log from following actions:
LANG=C libreoffice --strace
successfully Open File from LibreOffice dialogue.

[Bug 958848] [NEW] nouveau remains blacklisted after uninstall of nvidia drivers

2012-03-18 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

After apt-get remove nvidia-* the file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-
current_hybrid.conf remains and blocks the loading of the nouveau-
driver.

So, Ubuntu works great, with 3D Unity and nouveau. Then I installed the
nvidia-driver but didn't like all the consequences of that proprietary driver
that doesn't integrate.
 - No proper Monitor detection (separate tool, forwarded to system as single
monitor)
 - No color profiles
 - Ugly boot screen
 - etc.

But after uninstall of nvidia. It got me back to unity-2d, no 2nd
Monitor (mission hdmi support)

I tried to reinstall nouveau, but driver still doesn't load.
Then I found out that the nouveau driver is still blacklisted. Manually removed
that file, rebooted, it worked again.

There's a second file that blacklists nouveau, but gets removed after
uninstall of nvidia-current. /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-
drivers.conf

content of /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf:

# This file was installed by nvidia-current
# Do not edit this file manually

[Bug 905748] Re: Create WPA2 adhoc is Open, not encrypted

2012-03-16 Thread Philipp Gassmann
@mathieu-tl can you rely on your quick test connecting with android?
Android doesn't support Adhoc per default. With the App Wifi-Analyzer
you can see some details.

When I create an AdHoc and select WPA, it's now recognised as WPA. WPA2
would be better, I guess. But before it was open.

Why is it so difficult? It did work in earlier releases (ubuntu 11.04 or
before, not shure)

[Bug 905748] Re: Create WPA2 adhoc is Open, not encrypted

2012-03-16 Thread Philipp Gassmann
@mathieu-tl Stock Android does not support ad hoc wlan. See here
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=82 (Second most stars
of all issues there)

There are some custom roms like Cyanogenmod7 that support ad-hoc. And
there are ways to replace wpa_supplicant manually with a version that
supports ad hoc.

I will try to test it with an ISO of earlier release of ubuntu and save
some information.

[Bug 905748] Re: Create WPA2 adhoc is Open, not encrypted

2012-03-16 Thread Philipp Gassmann
I checked the behaviour of previous releases with LiveCDs.
On 11.04 creating a WPA WLAN leads to an open network.
On 10.10 I saw a WEP secured net (in Wifi Analyzer, Android) but the connection
information in Ubuntu said WPA.

I think it's the behaviour or Ubuntu 10.10 which led me to think it
worked in a previous release, because I was asked for a password, but I
wasn't aware, that it wasn't WPA but WEP. I'm sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 956511] [NEW] No true Fullscreen after using HUD

2012-03-15 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 - Launch Firefox
 - Enter Fullscreen (F11)
 - Press Alt to reveal HUD
 - Press Alt again or ESC to close HUD

What happens:
 - The launcher and toppanel get revealed when leaving HUD

What should happen:
 - Firefox should be in Fullscreen mode with no panel or launcher visible after
leaving HUD

Notes:
 - The Reveal and Hide works correctly with the Dash (Super-Key)
 - You have to switch to another application and back to get fullscreen again.
Klicking on the Icon in the launcher is not enough.

** Description changed:

When I create a new network with networkmanager, select wpa2 personal
and enter a password, the network that gets created is actually Open. In
the connection information on Ubuntu, the network ist shown as WPA2
secured, but I can connect with other devices without entering any key.
The network is discovered on windows and on Android (CM7) as OPEN!

  Using ubuntu 11.10, network-manager 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5.1

I couldn't find any reference to this behaviour on the net or in the bug
tracker.
  bug 322902 seems similar
+
+ Note: With standard Android, it's not possible to connect to an adhoc
+ wifi. With cyanogenmod or other mods it's possible.

2011-10-26 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Workaround:
Edit /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-speaker.conf

Change [Element Front] and [Element Speaker]
;switch = mute
;volume = merge
switch = ignore
volume = ignore

you can then use alsamixer for the levels of Speaker / Headphone
Pulseaudio affects Master and PCM.
execute killall pulseaudio to reload config

[Bug 762505] Re: Outdated in Natty, please merge from Sid

2011-05-20 Thread Philipp Gassmann
When I upgraded to natty something went wrong, so I was looking into the
logs (=/var/log/messages). When I saw that it is empty I was shure that
the system ist definitely fucked up, if not even the logging is working.

[Bug 194472] Re: Entering password in Terminal gives no visual feedback

2010-09-21 Thread Philipp Gassmann
I'm pleased that the discussion is open again.
May I ask the Server Security team to clarify what it means 1. has a security
impact on the server where no other application gives password feedback.
Where does the security issue lie? I can't imagine a case, where anyone or any
program could see the asterisks but not be able to register at least the
keyboard-strokes.
And if it is, wouldn't it be enough to be able to disable it for the ones who
care about such fine grained security. Ubuntu is anyway not the safest server
environment with much features enabled by default.

[Bug 539426] Re: Rhythmbox cannot be quickly opened from Indicator Applet

2010-04-26 Thread Philipp Gassmann
I really miss the single click options on the tray icon (play/pause,
hide/show, volume control)
I used to have a additional starter (rhythmbox-client --next) which starts the
next track.

Now that the behaviour changed, you need at least two clicks for every
action.

Is there a possibility/workaround to get the old behaviour? Is this a
changed configuration, which I can revert or is this changed code in
rhythmbox?

[Bug 508632] Re: [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-04-26 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Now that it's too late to change it back, I thought over it and how it
could be solved intuitively.

When you click on the right side of the buttons, it should switch to
text mode, and back after leaving it. additionally it could set the
cursor to the right position if you click on the space in between the
buttons.

I created a video Mockup of it:

[Bug 508632] Re: Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-04-03 Thread Philipp Gassmann
The problem with Ctrl+L is, that almost nobody knows it. I found it
here. And I am almost angry, that some developers who think they know
better remove such a every-day use feature. Sometimes i like to paste a
url, and when i know where i want to go, your much faster in text mode
than with searching the folder. And no, Ctrl+L is not an option, it's a
shortcut for powerusers.

BTW you can leave the mode with Esc.

If it is really security-relevant for servers (which i doubt), why not

Can anyone explain why this would be a security issue?
I think, if someone or a tool can read the output of the visual feedback. The
person or tool has already other ways of getting the length of the password.

[Bug 194472] Re: Please enhance the sudo explanation message

2009-11-26 Thread Philipp Gassmann
David Siegel This is definitely not a paper cut, as average users will
never open a terminal, and therefore never use sudo.

That's where I don't agree. In Forum posts and Support sites etc, you find a
lot of command-line commands, that you're advised to execute to install a
certain package or just to execute something and post the output.
No visual feedback is just confusing.

I just don't see why its better to have no visual feedback.

Also when entering the pw when you login to a shell is not visible (not only
sudo), and this gave me some trouble recently:
I had a problem with the graphic card driver and was in Textmode. Because of a
problem with the driver or whatever, not every keystroke was accepted. I had to
log in in text mode. for the username, I saw the characters, so i could retype
a char if the keystroke wasn't accepted, but when entering the pw i had a real
problem.

So, its not only useful for newbies

[Bug 324506] Re: Mouse has suddenly no contact, till X-Server restart

2009-09-12 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Hi Bryce

Because the dual-screen setup made also a few other problems i plugged the
second screen off for a while.
Recently I plugged it in again. I don't have enough time at the moment to test
development releases as I'm only at home at the weekend. I use up to date
Jaunty.

The case that the mouse had no contact didn't occur again, but other
issues, I couldn't yet file a bug for.

Examples:
 - At Startup, when Gnome is starting, for a moment, the area where I can move
the mouse is a field in the upper left of screen 1 with the size of the
resolution of the second screen
 - Suddenly I can't reach the second screen with the mouse, when I reach the
border of screen 1 the mouse jumps back to the other side of the same screen.
- Splash-Screens of Apps like OpenOffice appear ugly somewhere near the border
between the screens
- Java Apps have problems with this setup. e.g. JAlbum crashes on startup; In
TuxGuitar the lines have the lenght of both screens, even though the window is
smaller Vertical scrolling necessary
- When one changes the screen with the mouse, an image of the cursor rests on
the last position on the previous screen.
- (My smaller screen 2 is aligned right bottom of screen 1) When you slip
with the mouse over the upper right border of s1, the cursor jumps down to
where s2 begins. This is annoying. Better: in Windows (Sorry) the cursor stops
like in every other border, except where the second screen touches, the border
is open.

Perhaps you can use it, when I have more time, i will test it with the
developement release.

Don't hesitate to ask, I will try to answer.

[Bug 324506] Re: Mouse has suddenly no contact, till X-Server restart

2009-03-01 Thread Philipp Gassmann
The last time it happened i took an envelope and jotted down what
happened. Quite complicated, somehow it was funny. I hope someone can
figure out where the weak point is, i tried to write down exactly what
was working and how...

I had two nautilus-windows open, one local, one FTP.
Copied a file to FTP (D'n'D). pressed [F2], I wanted to rename the file on the
Server but the local file was active/marked so I used the mouse to click in
the FTP-Window.

1. No Mouse Contact (mouse moving, but clicking takes no action)
2. Focus on Top Panel (Ctrl+Alt+TAB)
3. Got stuck in menu (Apps, Places, System)
4. Move left (keyboard) Applications (top left) and Name (top right)
highlighted
5. Navigating with Keyboard in Panel works
6. (Print Screen) nomouse1.png
7. Window-Management-keys stop working (Alt+TAB Workspace-Switching)
8. Scrolling in now active Window (Firefox) works with the arrow-keys. Alt+F4
closed the window.
9. gedit is now the active Window. Editing works, saving (Ctrl+S) works.
10. Alt+D (Datei, File menu) highlights menu-caption (File) but Menu doesn't
appear.
11. Changing to other menu captions works (Edit,...)
12. At the same time as the menu is active, editing is ALSO activated -
Characters, Keys that are not Hotkeys of the menu captions (*D*atei,
*B*earbeiten,...) are written in the file.
13. Alt+F4 Save?-dialog. (working)
14. Next active window: nautilus
15. Navigating in main-window works (open subfolder)
16. Alt+D Menu-captions Same as gedit
17. I noticed that, for each menu caption, Arrow up/down results a change in
the status bar (shows explanations to Menu entries) Menu is not visible. Only
one entry/explanation for up and one for down is shown, for each menu caption.
18. Hitting ENTER on a explanation has no effect
19. With TAB I can change the focus of the features of Nautilus (tree, Main
window, etc.)
20. No action on e.g. close tree-side-panel
21. But in Tree or Main i can navigate entries (Files/Folders) by entering a
char that is not used as hotkey. Quicksearch field appears (lower right) in
which I can navigate with Arrow-keys and edit all chars)
22. When quicksearch field is away Standard fail behaviour.

* Rhythmbox is running all the time and playing, multimedia-keys ond keyboard

[Bug 324506] [NEW] Mouse has suddenly no contact, till X-Server restart

2009-02-02 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Suddenly the mouse has no more functionality. I can move the mouse, but
i can't click, there is no mouseover etc.

Only X-Server restart brings functionality back.

when i activate in the Mouse configuration the Ctrl. shows mouse i see
the animation in the upper left corner, even though the mouse is not
there.

I wanted to make a printscreen. the printscreen shows the mouse where
the Ctrl. animation is. (Attached)

So i tried taking an printscreen with Gimp. Which showed the mouse and
the animation where they are, but unfortunately in that moment Xserver
crashed fully, image wasn't saved.

When i had gimp open, the mouse cursor changed over a certain area to a
brush-painter, as if the mouse was over the image. but the image canvas
wasn't there. it was on the right screen (Dualscreen), the change
appeared on the left one. Still no functionality (no painting)

---
Configuration:
- nvidia driver version 173
- Dualscreen (Xinerama, separate X-Screens (1280x1024+1024x768)
- Updated Ubuntu 8.10 (Feb 2, 2009)
I used the Report a Problem-function of Firefox. Wrote this report after X
restart and loading site from history.
---
When does it happen?
- It happend multiple times.
- I couldn't find the exact cause.
- It seems to happen when there is a lot of graphical work. (Like flash-videos,
Many layers in Gimp, many windows open, workspace switching)
---
Other issues that could be related:
- Print screen is transparent where right screen should appear. (Gimp Print
Screen works correctly)
- In TTY, the text-cursor remains in upper left when two monitors are
configured. (works correctly when 1 is disabled) No scrolling down,
navigating in commands... Workaround: Switch to another TTY and back to see
result of entered command.

[Bug 290703] Re: GVFS does not respect User Home

2009-01-13 Thread Philipp Gassmann
The bugs importance is higher.

If you don't have the rights to access the root folder, you get an ugly error.
pasting the path doesn't work neither.

[Bug 312722] [NEW] Connect to FTP with Login Error The file is not a directory

2008-12-31 Thread Philipp Gassmann
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04 8.10
Using Nautilus Connect to server, and choosing FTP (with login), entering
(domain/IP) address, user, and hitting Connect.

Prompts for password, and then displays:

The folder contents could not be displayed
Sorry, couldn't display all the contents of / on [host-address/IP]: The file
is not a directory

To me it seems to be a problem with the directory on the server. the
folder for the user is not the root / folder of the server it is:
/d:/www/edvl/domain.ch/html when i connect with FireFTP or other
clients.

So Nautilus tries to connect to domain.ch/ where it has no permission!

When connecting with the ftp (Terminal) to domain.ch/ there is also an error
ftp: domain.ch/: Unknown host
Opening domain.ch leads to prompting the Username and afterwards the pw

Perhaps Nautilus automatically adds the / at the end of the URL and this
causes problems.

Connecting directly to domain.ch/d:/www/edvl/domain.ch/html does not
work neither.
