Transitional packages would really help users and OO and LO are not installable

[Bug 156765] Re: GIMP 2.4's new print dialog is disabled

2008-01-12 Thread Philipp Sadleder
Today, gutsy-updates/main contains the following update to gimp:

gimp (2.4.0~rc2-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * The gimp package now includes its own Print plug-in, and should
automatically remove the old gimp-print package that was provided by
Gutenprint. If you still want to use the extended Gutenprint Print
plug-in, please install the gimp-gutenprint package.

 -- Ari Pollak [EMAIL PROTECTED]  Tue, 18 Sep 2007 08:25:34 -0400

Unfortunately, the plug-in is simply not installed, /usr/lib/gimp/2.0
/plug-ins/print should be included in the gimp binary package.

[Bug 157076] gimp-print adds wrong diversion

2007-10-25 Thread Philipp Sadleder
Public bug reported:

Although the gimp-print plug-in is located at
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gutenprint, gimp-print adds a diversion from
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/print to /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/print.orig.
This diversion seems to be superfluous.
Even installing the gimp gtk+ plugin (which is normally installed
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/print) in parallel doesn't lead to problems, since
both printing dialogs are offered.

Best regards,

   Philipp

* Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-10-25 12:29]:

 The new rc3 version and the dialog change was just before gutsy and we
 didn't want to switch to a non tested option, we might upload 2.4.0 in
 gutsy-updates but will not likely change the print system there

Well, I think it wouldn't be a problem to install both in parallel.

gimp-print (gutenprint) installs the plug-in to
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/gutenprint (even though it adds a diversion
form [..]/plug-ins/print to [..]/print.orig which seems to be
superfluous [1]), so both plug-ins should be available and usable in
parallel.

If this is not an option for gutsy due to other problems, then it could
be solved with a separate binary package just for the gtk+ print
plug-in, e.g. gimp-gtkprint.

That's why I proposed to have the option to use it available. With a
separate binary package, people have the option to use it if they want
it. Otherwise they have to use third party repositories.
Another option would be to build a package for universe.

For me, gimp-gutenprint didn't work ever, so I'm very happy to have a
working gtk+ print plugin on my Debian machine. But some Ubuntu users I
know are eager to have a working print plugin.

2007-10-25 Thread Philipp Sadleder
Sebastien, that's all fine, this was just a proposal as I found the new
dialog an improvement in the unified desktop printing experience.

But well, it's not difficult to take the plugin from a corresponding
Debian package (/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/print) and put it in that
place on an Ubuntu installation (or to ~/.gimp-2.4/plug-ins).

I can confirm that bug.
The GTK+ print support is explicitly disabled in debian/rules [1]:

[...]

Enabling print support would be a great improvement of the user
experience in using GIMP in Ubuntu.

[Bug 93002] Re: [Feisty] OpenOffice 2.2(rc3) Document Conversion Wizard crashes

2007-07-11 Thread Philipp Sadleder
Hi, as stated in my previous comment in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/93002/comments/4,
the problem got resolved for Debian.
I think the following changelog entry is relevant:

openoffice.org (2.2.0-5) unstable; urgency=low
[...]
- make classes a normal dir again (and add symlinks in it) instead of it
  being a symlink itself since it breaks the UNO bootstrap mechanism
  some stuff (including extensions) seem to rely on...
[...]

In Debian, /usr/lib/openoffice/program/classes is a directory containing
symlinks to /usr/share/java/openoffice/, whereas in Ubuntu Feisty
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/classes is _itself_ a symlink to
/usr/share/java/openoffice/, which seems to break the document
conversion wizard and other wizards as well.

[Bug 108369] Re: Request: Update Feisty's Network Manager to 0.6.5

2007-06-17 Thread Philipp Sadleder
Tonio, could you backport the network-manager 0.6.5 packages in the gutsy
section of your archive to feisty?
This would help many people to test wireless networks that are not accessible
with 0.6.4.

Thanks for your work on network-manager,

[Bug 93002] Re: [Feisty] OpenOffice 2.2(rc3) Document Conversion Wizard crashes

2007-05-07 Thread Philipp Sadleder
In Debian the problem got fixed by one of the following two uploads:

openoffice.org (2.2.0-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * ooo-build:
- update (r9346)
  + jvmfwk-gij-paths.diff: add /gcj-4.1-71/libjvm.so to fix FTBFS with
new libgcj7-1
  * debian/rules:
- stop creating a xt.jar symlink (closes: #412671)

 -- Rene Engelhard [EMAIL PROTECTED]  Fri,  4 May 2007 23:22:16 +0200

openoffice.org (2.2.0-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * ooo-build:
- switch to ooo-build-2-2 branch
- update (r9331)
  + adds crashfix for impress crashing with STLport5.1 on exit
(closes: #421297)
  * debian/control.in:
- add forgotten Conflicts to -common against older -writer etc due to the
  wrapper scripts/ooqstart changes
- make new -base,-writer,-mobiledev,-officebean pre-depend on new
  -java-common, make java-common conflict against old versions of above
  packages.
  * debian/rules:
- move oovbaapi.rdb into -calc as the rest of VBA stuff is there
- remove unneeded updatefeed.uno.so
- make classes a normal dir again (and add symlinks in it) instead of it
  being a symlink itself since it breaks the UNO bootstrap mechanism
  some stuff (including extensions) seem to rely on...
- add ice* to senddoc again, got lost with the upgrade to 2.2.0
  (closes: #411387)
- install tenmplate.desktop as ooo-template.desktop
- handle new libgcj7-1-awt...
- fix links to the DevelopersGuide (closes: #420803)
- fix openoffice command, symlink to ooffice instead of gone ooo-wrapper
  (closes: #421030)
- fix acor_*.dat fixing (closes: #401651)
- cleanup:
  - split binary-* targets, remove binary-common
  - remove makebinariestar, we now have a -dbg
- fix some links in the UDK Java docs
  * debian/libuno-cil.installcligac.in:
- remove cli_uno_bridge.dll
  *
debian/openoffice.org-{base,writer,officebean,filter-mobiledev,java-common,dev}.preinst.in:
- add; remove classes symlink if found since dpkg doesn't replace a
  symlink with a dir
  * debian/template.desktop.in:
- add from Ubuntu (changed in Debian to read OpenOffice.org
  instead of a OpenOffice.org From Template and remove now obsolete
  translation; and to show it) per user requests...
  * debian/rules, debian/udk-{java,common,cpp}.ref.in:
- register UDK documentation with doc-base (closes: #420805)
  * debian/control.in, debian/rules:
- don't depend on libxerces2-java-gcj, libxalan2-java-gcj on etch
  backports

[Bug 41985] Re: Openoffice won't open files using sftp:// in read/write mode

I can state that opening files read/write remotely via sftp:// with OOo
in Ubuntu feisty works as expected. People who had that problem as well:
please recheck and report back.

What doesn't work now is opening files via sftp:// that have only read
permissions. OOo reports a common error in the internet area
(translated back from german).

[Bug 108152] Re: ipw3945: Feisty hanging on Starting Network Interfaces

2007-04-21 Thread Philipp Sadleder
I'd suggest that this problem (which I see on a laptop with an ipw3945, too) is
due to the missing information which wireless network should be joined.
On a wired NIC, you can simply run dhcp commands and get an IP (or not). On a
wireless NIC, one normally has to specify the SSID of the network.

[Bug 41985] Re: Openoffice won't open files using sftp:// in read/write mode

2007-03-06 Thread Philipp Sadleder
I'd like to withdraw my statement that it works in Debian, which is
_not_ true. Debians OO.o and gnomevfs (whichever is the problem) suffer
from the same issue.

But, as stated above, gedit does open/save files on a sftp share if
either owner or group has read permission, like one would expect it.
Based on that, I think the bug is in OO.o and would like to provide
additional information to help resolve it.

2007-03-06 Thread Philipp Sadleder
The attached file shows a section from OO.o source.
It checks if the remote file has owner or group matches the uid/gid of the
running Openoffice process (!)
This is all just plain wrong:

- Local and remote users/groups aren't necessarily matching.
- Openoffice checks things which lay in the domain of libgnomevfs
- Even if users/groups are in sync on local/remote system, there can be
supplementary groups the user (on both sides) can be part of.

Of course, this is an upstream problem, but I don't know where to report
that in a proper way and I think Ubuntu/Debian maintainers could help
getting that nasty problem fixed.

** Attachment added: read-only check for gnomevfs
   http://librarian.launchpad.net/6646294/content.cxx

** Also affects: openoffice (upstream)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: Unconfirmed

** Changed in: gnome-vfs2 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected
