[Bug 629881] Re: Matrox G450 Video Board Requires Failsafe GNOME Login
apport information ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop synaptic 0.62.5 I have an old Compaq Evo 32bit Intel system with a Matrox G450 AGP video board (G45FMDHA32DB 971-0302). It is a dualhead video board with the main output spec'd to 2048x1536 and the secondary output spec'd to 1600x1200. The issue is that if I perform a GNOME login, the upper and lower bars of the display are completely offscreen (only the background and mouse are visible), with the result that I can't get to any GUI menu to do anything. If I perform a failsafe GNOME login, the upper and lower bars are visible, but the display resolution is limited to 800x600 and can't be enlarged. [Bug 632702] [NEW] Mindi reports FATAL ERROR. Filesystem UNSUPPORTED not supported for initrd image. Teminating when attempting to create a rescue boot CD.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mindi I have a generic installation of 10.04 on a Dell Inspiron 500m laptop (2 GB RAM, 30 GB HD). I specified the EXT4 filesystem during installation. I installed mondo/mindi from the Ubuntu Software Center (or they were installed by default, I don't remember now...). When I attempt to generate a rescue boot CD, I encountered the message above. Please note that to repair an issue I encountered after installation of 10.04 on the laptop, I applied the fix that resulted in the installation of /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.34-020634-generic. Is this an issue with mindi? I attempted to research this issue with mindi and found some information on their wiki at this link: http://trac.mondorescue.org/wiki/FAQ#Q4HowdoIcreatemymindiFailsafekernel It specifies the following commands to prepare a mindi failsafe kernel: used # cd /usr/share/mindi # cp /boot/vmlinuz-x.y.zz vmlinuz # tar cfj lib.tar.bz2 /lib/modules/x.y.zz However, the /usr/share/mindi directory does not exist as a result of the standard 10.04 install of mondo/mindi. So, should I create this directory into which I copy the kernel file, or should the kernel file be copied elsewhere? I also looked in the Landscape KB for issues on mondo/mindi, but found no hits for either (which seemed surprising). Did I miss something obvious? I want to image my new 10.04 installation to an external USB 1 TB harddrive (failsafe), then test access to that image after booting from the rescue CD. Is this a bug or simply a configuration disconnect between mindi and 10.04? Thanks. [Bug 458922] [NEW] dovecot profile missing entry for dovecot.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apparmor I tried to report directly via launchpad, but that does not work! So I used ubuntu-bug on my workstation, but please note, that this bug is for a server - though both are the same version. Oct 23 09:25:02 unity kernel: [41040.455886] type=1502 audit(1256289902.616:38270): operation=open pid=21650 parent=21648 profile=/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver requested_mask=r:: denied_mask=r:: fsuid=0 ouid=0 name=/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf The issue is, that the dovecot.conf config file is not in the usr.lib.dovecot.deliver profile. Furthermore, it would be nice to now, where the SSL Stuff should be placed to avoid apparmor issues. [Bug 195698] Re: Password asked separately for each tab that requires it
Dialog Boxes are evil - why can't the request be done like the one for invalid certificates? In older version of FF a dialogbox jumped when a certificate was invalid, meanwhile this is done within the tab - same could be done for basic auth requests - so a auth request wouldn't block the browser, nor would it be irritating in the event of multiple simultanous requests. -- Password asked separately for each tab that requires it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 195698] Re: Password asked separately for each tab that requires it
Yes, the login would appear like a form login - just like the cert thing behaves like an AJAX form. Multiple Windows and Pop-Ups are bad Browser Design - it was fine in the days, where users just served one page at a time, but tabbed browsing was the start of recognizing that users are surfing multiple pages at a time, where dialog boxes in pop-up form of any kind are bad usability. As of know, there are about 2 browsers that share the most userbase, where one browser is not really known for being innovative not standard compliance, so I have no troubles is FF would be first cleaning up this issue. -- Password asked separately for each tab that requires it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44335] Re: IMAP/POP3+SSL/TLS are disabled
As bug reporter of bug #132947, who notified Ubuntu Security about the issue, I can barely express myself, as English is not my mother tongue, how poorly this issue is handled - YEARS passed by. Everyone is laughting at Microsoft when it takes them 10 months to fix severe security issues, but seeing this bug, I can well imagine why it takes so long. If I were so, and I was, about building packages everytime myself, I would use Gentoo, Slackware or any BSD - but Ubuntu is a binary distribution, therefore I like to have a binary delivered. I want something that just works. It needs someone to get it done on a political basis - either by fixing the issue or removing the piece of insecure code. my 2c Philipp -- IMAP/POP3+SSL/TLS are disabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It takes a samba-server and an ubuntu client, that has a bookmark pointing to smb://yourserver/ * What ubuntu version do you use? [Bug 398709] Re: Shortcut/Bookmark via Places doesn't work
You missed the point, the samba server does not need to be a local installation, it isn't in my case either. And to access a remote folder might not be the first thing you do as a average private user, but as an average business user you do. And remote folder access support is a default install feature of nautilus, isn't it? So all I do: * opening my nautilus (file-browser), point it to smb://myserver * clicking Bookmarks/Add Bookmark * closing nautilus * clicking on the ubuntu logo in the upper left * moving my mouse onto Places/Windows shares on myserver and clicking on it getting the error ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Status: Invalid = New -- Shortcut/Bookmark via Places doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 346095] Re: notify-osd doesn't honor my preference
Derek,MPT,Sebastian et al: The problem is not that notify-osd won't cater to someone's preferences or old settings or whatever, the problem was with the initial response of MPT(status: bug-invalid,wontfix) and the problems faced by those with poor peripheral vision(MBT).MPT amended himself(after a lot of flames, but he did amend himself),then Sebastian jumped in without reading the thread completely. If he had,he would have seen that possible workarounds had been proposed and the bug was assigned.Nobody's denying that time is required for fixing bugs, but the hullabaloo could have been avoided if MPT had just saidOk,I see your problem,we will get to it;and Sebastian has read the thread before posting.MBT would have been satisfied,notify-osd would have been(hopefully) fixed, and there wouldn't be such a long letter from me. ;) -- notify-osd doesn't honor my preference https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 303351] Re: Cannot connect to Yahoo Messenger
Yahoo just won't allow me to get in. I am no computer expert and Pidgin is just upsetting me. I have been forced to use internet web browser Yahoo just to connect. I have had this problem in the past and a system reboot seemed to fix it when Windows was uninstalled and Linux was installed. Essentially, I have no confidence in Pidgin. [Bug 375371] [NEW] MySQL must not use /tmp
Public bug reported: I noticed that the my.cnd points the tmpdir to /tmp, which IMHO might be fatal. From the MySQL site: If the MySQL server is acting as a replication slave, you should not set --tmpdir to point to a directory on a memory-based file system or to a directory that is cleared when the server host restarts. A replication slave needs some of its temporary files to survive a machine restart so that it can replicate temporary tables or LOAD DATA INFILE operations. If files in the temporary file directory are lost when the server restarts, replication fails. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/temporary-files.html From the FHS: /tmp/ Temporary files (see also /var/tmp). Often not preserved between system reboots. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard It might even be, that Ubuntu clears /tmp. Anyhow, /tmp can be considered lost upon system restart - any file that should survive a system restart belong to /var/tmp /var/tmp/ Temporary files to be preserved between reboots. so please consider tmpdir=/var/tmp I dunno if apparmor needs to be adjusted, but I guess I will soon find out... regards Philipp ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- MySQL must not use /tmp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
