[Bug 1292820]

2019-09-02 Thread Photon
The patch is not compatible with Xfce 4.14 any more, is there somebody
knowledgeable enough to look into it and check if it can be modified to
work with the new Xfce?

As far as I can see all of the Shutter snaps which are available at

surprise that Shutter cannot be installed using snap...

corqpub, this is actually
https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/1502263

Since fglrx is not in use for several years already, I think, it is safe
to close this bug. Such symptoms in the 2018 world will almost certainly
originate from Wayland usage rather than fglrx.

[Bug 1275416] Re: touchscreen do not work after suspend/resume

2018-05-23 Thread Photon
I'm using a Thinkpad X200T with Manjaro and observe the problem
described here. It doesn't necessarily happen after the first
suspend/resume cycle but after some of them. The solution proposed in
#19 didn't work for me though. I got two devices displayed corresponding
to ttyS0 and ttyS1. Running inputattach for ttyS0 didn't have any
effect, running it for ttyS1 lead to a system freeze such that I had to
hard reset the machine. I will try again when the problem reappears and
report back.

To give everybody an update: I asked for support at the snapcraft.io

stupid, that is, indicated lack of research effort, but I had no time to
learn everything by myself back then). I will try to revive the topic

[Bug 1765726] Re: Optional dependencies are missing for Shutter in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-05-02 Thread Photon
Here is a more or less complete list of optional dependencies (package
names may vary since it is from the Arch Linux PKGBUILD):

optdepends=('gnome-web-photo: web screenshot support'
'perl-image-exiftool: read and write EXIF data'
'nautilus-sendto: send screenshots via mail'
'perl-goo-canvas: editing screenshots'
'perl-gtk2-appindicator: AppIndicators support'
'perl-path-class: Imgur and Dropbox upload support'
'perl-lwp-protocol-https: Imgur and Dropbox upload support'
'perl-net-oauth: Imgur and Dropbox upload support'
'bc: 3D Rotate and 3D Reflection plugins support')

Maybe some Ubuntu user could check which of them are missing in 18.04?

** Description changed:

The ability to edit screenshots using shutter has been broken because
Ubuntu 18.04 no longer provides these packages in its repository:

  1) libgoo-canvas-perl (needed for edit feature)
  2) libgoocanvas-common (needed for edit feature)
  3) libgoocanvas3 (needed for edit feature)
  4) libgtk2-appindicator-perl (needed for AppIndicator)

To understand the usefulness of this (now missing) feature watch this video:
  https://youtu.be/RPkywfQ8BRA

As you can see, Shutter has a streamlined work-flow when it comes to
  1) Capturing Screen-shots
  2) Editing Screen-shots
  3) Sharing screen-shots with others via URL.

It is a wonderfully productive tool for communication. They say a
picture is worth a thousand words. I say that a screen-shot edited in
shutter is worth 2 thousand words. Plus, it is the fastest way I've seen
to accomplish the work-flow shown in the video-link above.

Hi guys, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I still
haven't found time to look into the snap thing. The good news is that
there are .deb packages for libgoo-calvas-perl available:
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2018/04/fix-edit-option-disabled-

[Bug 1765726] Re: libgoo-canvas-perl [needs-packaging]

2018-04-20 Thread Photon
One possibility to revive Shutter would be to crowdfund a professional
to do the necessary development. This worked with Lazarus, a browser
extension for saving web forms: https://github.com/lazarus-
recovery/lazarus_addon/issues/2 In the case of Lazarus the total money
required was about 500$ which was supplied by around 20 users in total.
I think, properly organized, this could also be achieved for Shutter.

However, I fear that the amount of money needed for Shutter would be way
higher (counting just the number of code lines, Shutter is much more
work intensive than just a browser extension). Also, the tasks to do are
a lot (port to GTK3, port to Wayland, etc.). Furthermore, even if all of
this works out, Shutter will become unmaintained again after the work is
done.

[Bug 1765726] Re: libgoo-canvas-perl [needs-packaging]

2018-04-20 Thread Photon
Lonnie, I completely agree, I also like Shutter a lot and that's why I
am trying to fix it up at least a bit. I think, Shutter can survive till
the big distros abandon Xorg and completely shift to Wayland. However,
somebody would need to take care of packaging Shutter and its
dependencies (which are quite some, unfortunately). I maintain Shutter's
PKGBUILD for Arch Linux, so it will hopefully remain available for Arch
as long as Xorg is alive. OpenSuse still has Shutter in its repos.
Gentoo at least ships the old 0.93.1 version. Debian had Shutter in its
repos so far, but now somebody would need to take care of the Debian
packaging (maybe via a PPA).

2018-04-20 Thread Photon
Jeremy, unfortunately, Shutter's only developer abandoned it several
years ago. It looks like I am the only one who tries to fix it up at
least a little bit (mostly by just applying patches which other people
submitted, because I don't even know perl). A port to GTK3 is completely
out of scope for me, unfortunately...

Jeremy, I see, looks, like a PPA for Shutter and its dependencies is a
better solution. It has been dropped to AUR (the equivalent of a
centralized PPA) in Arch over a year ago. If somebody feels like
stepping up for this task, let me know! Can't do this myself since I
have no experience with .deb packaging (didn't even manage to update
Shutter's official PPA to 0.94...).

2018-04-06 Thread Photon
I'm not into Ubuntu development and packaging (I am an Arch and Manjaro
user myself, actually), but from the removal entry (first link in my
previous comment) it looks like the reason is that upstream development
is dead and there are no packages in Ubuntu repos which require it
(Shutter only requires it optionally).

I'm not sure what the best way is to get the package back to the Ubuntu
repos...

I think, you are missing an optional dependency, which has been removed
in bionic: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/amd64/libgoo-
canvas-perl It was present in artful: https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful
/libgoo-canvas-perl You can download a .deb here:
https://reposcope.com/package/libgoo-canvas-perl but you won't get any
updates (since the module isn't being developed for some time, this is
likely to be not a big problem).

[Bug 1502263] Re: Shutter does not work in Wayland

If you refer to lightscreen, it is already on github:
https://github.com/ckaiser/Lightscreen If you mean Shutter, it is free
software, so anybody is free to fork it and put the code anywhere. The
only downside is that distro package maintainers will need some time to
realize that the development is going on somewhere else, but I think,
this is a solvable problem.

crashes on newer perl versions, Dropbox upload needs porting to new API.

I need to correct my previous statement. It looks like skypeforlinux is
actually starting the

[Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot

2017-06-28 Thread Photon
I experience the same problem on Manjaro Linux with gnome-keyring
3.20.0+57+g9db67ef6 and skypeforlinux. So it seems to be a bug in gnome-
keyring, not in Ubuntu's package.

Some observations (citing my post on the Manjaro forums
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/skypeforlinux-weird-and-inconsistent-
authentification-behaviour/26076):

I read that the old Skype client will stop working on Juli 1st, that is
in less than two weeks, so I switched to the new client on several
machines. However, the new client behaves in a weird way on starting up:

 1. On some machines the user gets logged in without being asked for his
password
 2. On some machines the user gets a gnome-keyring password dialogue
 3. On some machines the user has to enter the complete Skype user name and
password into the Skype client itself

In the ideal world I would like to have all machines behave as in 1. But
how to do so? Does anybody else experience the same problem?

I have digged deeper into this issue. It turned out that the gnome-
keyring-daemon is running with different command lines in the three
cases.

Case 1:
gnome-keyring-daemon --start --foreground --components=secrets (on my Manjaro
laptop)
gnome-keyring-daemon --start (on my old Arch install)

Case2:
gnome-keyring-daemon is not running at all. It is then launched when
skypeforlinux is started and needs a password to unlock the keyring.

Case3:
gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

So there seem to be two problems: First, the problem that gnome-keyring-
daemon is not launched at login at all, second, if it is launched, it is
launched with a bad command line.

I looked in the Xfce session settings and there is an entry for gnome-
keyring-daemon with the correct (Case 1) command line, but it is not
activated. I activated it, but it seems to have changed nothing, gnome-
keyring is still launched with the wrong command line. It looks like it
is started by some system wide service and then the Xfce session
settings entry collides with the already running instance. But what is
this system wide service and why does it use the wrong command line on
some machines but the right command line on others?

[Bug 1641944] Re: Compiz dbus error message

2017-02-22 Thread Photon
Seeing this when trying to activate the D-Bus plugin on two Manjaro
machines running Compiz 0.9.13.1. Another Manjaro machine and an Arch
Linux machine show no such problem. So, smurf, a workaround is to just
disable the D-Bus plugin in the Compiz settings. However, I'd like to
use the D-Bus plugin. Will try to figure out what the cause of the crash
actually is and report later.

** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Package changed: compiz (Ubuntu) => compiz

@Boyuan Yang: I observed that the plugin names are still messed up after
applying the patch (see attached screenshot). Can it also be fixed?

I have similar problems: Sometimes Alt+F4 is not working. If it is not
working, it keeps not working till I restart Compiz, similarly, if it is
working, it keeps working until I restart Compiz.

[Bug 1067951] Re: Firefox loses window decorations in GNOME Classic and MATE with Compiz

2016-12-12 Thread Photon
I hope, somebody will read this comment though the bug is already
closed.

I experience the same bug in Manjaro Linux Xfce with Xfce + Compiz
0.9.13.1. Looking at the latest comment it seems to me that the fix is
only for Mate, but not for Xfce (only mate.ini has been edited for the
fix by Martin). So I assume that the bug is still present in Xfce and
would like to request a reopening of this bug. Also, please point me at
what exactly has been changed to implement the fix in Mate.

Thanks!

[Bug 1628490] Re: system-wide remote dns for network proxy is needed

2016-10-09 Thread photon
As I learned more about dns and proxy, I'd like to withdraw this feature
request for the following reasons:

Remote dns probably requires application support, so it should not be proper to
make it system wide.
Socks5 supports UDP, which functions for DNS proxy, if the proxy also supports
it well.
