This is with Ubuntu Mate, the daily image as of about 9am UTC 12/04/2024 as well as some versions downloaded at other times. [Bug 99348] Re: [apport] totem-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in decode_mb_cavlc()
Several bugs I'm on the list for have been retrospectively marked as 'Critical' after being closed as fixed. There may be a good reason for this in each case, but given that several of them had no priority set or were a lower priority and had been left unsolved for quite some time it does look suspiciously like skewing of statistics. ('we've fixed X critical bugs' or 'we fixed 97% of all critical bugs', etc., except that they weren't critical until after they were fixed) As I said, there may be a very good reason which I've missed or it could be coincidence. I also apologise for posting this here as it may not be the most appropriate place to raise such concerns, but I have no idea of anywhere else more appropriate. -- [apport] totem-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in decode_mb_cavlc() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99348 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 587426] Re: No GPU found
I've found a way to get this to work, at least on my machine. I simply downloaded and manually installed the latest BOINC software direct from Berkeley. The versions in the ubuntu repository and the PPA i tried do not work, but the berkely version does. This is with the default ATI drivers installed through the restricted driver manager in lucid. So, in my case, the problem is with the ubuntu packaged and PPA packaged BOINC software and NOT ATI drivers or anything else. I hope that helps! -- No GPU found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 533907] Re: 10.04 Logitech notebook pro webcam - Regression
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have a Logitech pro for notebook webcam. This worked perfectly with cheese, skype and vlc in 9.10 but under 10.04 32bit (up to date as of 17:30 GMT 7th March 2010) it does not appear to be detected by any of these programs (possibly V4L/V4L2 system not picking it up). Camera (Notebooks Pro) Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub but it is not detected by cheese, vlc, skype or anything else. I am happy to try and provide more information if someone can tell me what information would be helpful and how to get it. [Bug 533907] Re: 10.04 Logitech notebook pro webcam - Regression
This is still a bug and is a regression on previous hardware support. It has a usable workaround: "Unloading (rmmod uvcvideo) and reloading (modprobe uvcvideo) the uvcvideo" Surely the reason for having a bug report system and gathering info on workarounds is so that the system can be made to support the hardware 'out the box' by default, either through pushing out an updated package or in the next version? It seems odd to close a real, known and reproducible regression bug with a known workaround without actually having the problem fixed in the default system. Most people will not want to have to search for this report and then manually unload and reload a kernel module every time the want to use their webcam. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- 10.04 Logitech notebook pro webcam - Regression https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 533907] [NEW] 10.04 Logitech notebook pro webcam - Regression
Public bug reported: I have a Logitech pro for notebook webcam. This worked perfectly with cheese, skype and vlc in 9.10 but under 10.04 32bit (up to date as of 17:30 GMT 7th March 2010) it does not appear to be detected by any of these programs (possibly V4L/V4L2 system not picking it up). So this is a regression in support for this device. The camera is listed under lsusb fine: cris...@loki:~$ lsusb Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:08c3 Logitech, Inc. It would be nice to have this popular and generally very good camera working again in the LTS april release. I can confirm this also on an "X200-S" (the updated model). Battery life MUCH shorter than it should be under Ubuntu. (4 cell --> ubuntu ~1.5hrs, Vista gives just under 3 with similar usage) This is a big issue as the laptop was purchased spescifically for its long battery life when on 9 cell battery and this doesn't reallyhappen under ubuntu. -- Ienovo X200 power consumption - power top https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380293 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 244383] Re: Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts
Can you please run rhythm box this way: rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt That will record everything rhythmbox is doing in the txt file. If you get a file in this way which shows the download failure then please upload it as it will ve valuable in finding the cause of the problem. [Bug 299107] Re: too wide image crashes FF
Adding terminal error message: " [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ firefox www.dobroc.com/kuba/test.gif The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 3287 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)" Also, if i open the file from my downloads folder instead of the URL then instead of closing, the window stays open, cpu use goes to 100% and I get traces on the window by anything i drag over the top of it. Hope some of that helps. Re: [Bug 244383] Re: Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts
Yes, the problem is caused by a weak wireless connection, however, rhythmbox should be tolerant of unreliable networks (if a packet is missing or damaged it should re-request it) or at a bare minimum flag the download as failed and allow you to restart it. It should not mark it as downloaded, only have part of the audio and then refuse to let you redownload it, forcing a manual download. For eg, Firefox never part-downloaded a file but marked it as complete when i was on the poor network, nor wget, aptitude, etc, etc. Rhythmbox is the only program to show this behaviour, the other all either produce a perfect download or recognise that it has failed. So to summarise, the rhythmbox bug is marking failed downloads as successful. It may be an issue for upstream not ubuntu (although its a core ubuntu application), and i'll report upstream if it happens again, but it is a fault with the way rhythmbox responds to damaged/missing network packets. PS: "As said i'm not seeing this behavior, that works fine for me" I was inquiring to kemel as to weather this was when he/she saw the issue, i read above that you have been unable to reproduce the issue. 2008/10/16 Pedro Villavicencio <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > As said i'm not seeing this behavior, that works fine for me, so the > problem was a weak wireless connection, closing the bug then, thanks. > > ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) > Status: Incomplete => Invalid > > -- > Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244383 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > -- Phrase of the [period of time 'till I change it]: "I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code." -- Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To say again, I've never had this problem when downloading over a wired network or a strong wireless signal, only when the wlan signal is week (possibly its due to corrupted packets / lost connection?) [Bug 244383] [NEW] Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Rhythmbox 0.11.5 fails to download podcasts fully, they stop part way through. This is not an issue when the files are downloaded with firefox or wget. There is obviously some error checking or broken download detection and resume built in to firefox / wget, but not rhythmbox. This is extremely frustrating as it leaves me having to manually download podcasts or miss the end of the episodes. Rhythmbox should download the files as reliably as firefox and should flag any incomplete downloads. It should also have a feature to re-download a file, as this can't currently be done. This appears to be due to damaged packets, as it is much more frequent when i am using my wireless network (which occasionally looses connection) than when I am on the wired network. NOTE: This is not a duplicate of the fixed bug as that one relates to specific URLs completely failing to download, where as I am making people aware about the frequent failure to completely download all or a file. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Rhythmbox frequently fails to compleatly download podcasts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yeah, the bug did not exist in 7.10, its new to hardy and seems to afflict all (or atleast lots of) Neomagic 256 series graphics chips. I think we need to get the attention of a driver / graphics guru if we are going to get this fixed. Re: [Bug 194769] Re: xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04)
For a work around, you can use another terminal emulator (aterm, xterm, gnome-terminal, etc, etc) or ctrl+alt+f2 Its not ideal and I hope somone who knows about these things has some time to take a look at it soon. [Bug 194769] Re: xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04)
Ok, so so far everyone who has reported this problem is using a Neomagic MagicGraph chip, and i think they all have been with the same driver. Looks like now Hardy is out quite a few people are having the problem with this hardware/software combination. -- xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194769 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 194769] Re: xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04)
Just had a quick look and your sony f590k is listed as using the "NeoMagic MagicMedia™ 256XL+" graphics chip. My IBM 600E uses the "NeoMagic MagicMedia™ 256AV" So maybe it is an issue with the driver for this series of NeoMagic chips, and / or how whatever toolkit draws the widgits for the xfce4-terminal talks to it? I'm not an expert on this type of issue, so i could very well be wrong, just a thought :) -- xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194769 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 194769] [NEW] xfce4-terminal window borders / decorations / widgets being incorrectly drawn (xubuntu 8.04)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xfce4-terminal I'm using xubuntu 8.04 (up to date as of 22/02/08) on a thinkpad 600e. I upgraded from xubuntu 7.10 a few days ago. When I open an xfce4-terminal window the borders, title bar and widgets are either black or corrupted multicolours (see attachments), this also effects the xfce4-terminal preferences window. No other applications have this problem, and changing the theme does not effect the problem. If i move another window in front of the terminal window sometimes small pieces of colour from the broken title bar seem to leak through and appear on the other window. This is both cosmetic and functional as it hides the minimise, close, etc widgets and the title. Since this is a commonly used core package in xubuntu i think it is important. Anyone had the same problem on other hardware? On my thinkpad the 7.10 version worked flawlessly and gnome -terminal works as expected, its just this package so i doubt its specific to my machine. [Bug 176689] Re: [hardy]incorrect drawing of the window
Here's another one, not black this time but strange and corrupted looking.. As i previously said, this is not on virtual box, but a real thinkpad 600e. Not sure if this is the same bug or should i report a new different bug? ** Attachment added: "screenshot2.jpg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12162388/screenshot2.jpg -- [hardy]incorrect drawing of the window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176689 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
