[Bug 1226369] [NEW] suspend to ram and resume do not work from menu item but do work running pm-suspend

2013-09-16 Thread Quackers
Public bug reported:

Late 2012 reatina MacBook Pro 15 running Ubuntu 13-04 amd64+mac.
Nvidia driver 319.49 installed.
Running gnome-shell 3.6.3.1
Laptop is set to suspend when the lid is closed.

When using the gnome-shell menu and clicking on suspend nothing happens
at all.

When I close the laptop lid the system suspends. On resume the system
resumes to a grey screen, no desktop, but the system is running as I can
ctrl+alt+t and enter sudo reboot and my password and the system will
reboot.

From a normally running desktop I can open a terminal and run sudo pm-suspend
and the system will immediately suspend.
When suspended in this manner the system will resume to a normal working
desktop on demand.

[Bug 1132522] Re: [Apple Inc. MacBookPro10,1] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-26 Thread Quackers
An update
Mine is now using Nvidia'a 319.49 driver and suspends and resumes normally if I
actually select suspend form the menu.
If I just close the lid it suspends but resumes to a grey screen or sometimes
to a completely unusable desktop. Nothing is clickable but the pointer can be
moved.

[Bug 1132522] Re: [Apple Inc. MacBookPro10,1] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-21 Thread Quackers
My hardware is a recently bought brand new MacBook Pro 10,1 with 2.3GHz and 8GB
ram.
System will suspend but on resume will sometimes boot to a desktop but is
completely unresponsive. Most of the time, however, it just remains at a black
screen and must be force shutdown and rebooted to gain any use.

If any further details or logs are required I am willing to send them,
though I may possibly need some help in that regard.

As has previously been said a laptop without the use of suspend is
largely useless and I for one would appreciate some improvement.

Not sure if it's the same as bug #955845 or not.
GS is crashing and reloading after closing synaptic, but only when the cursor
is moved to top left. It is the cursor movement to top left which appears to be
crashing GS, but only after closing SPM.

That's interesting :-)
As requested

ootest@ootest-VGN-AR51SU:~$ python -c 'from NvidiaDetector.nvidiadetector
import NvidiaDetection; print NvidiaDetection().selectDriver()'
nvidia-current

As you can see, the output says nvidia-current, even though the nvidia-
settings screen clearly shows the 173.14.30 driver as being used.

Thanks for all the info Bryce, and the extra bugs. The problem seems to
have gone largely un-noticed previously, possibly because most people
don't check that box during installation? I know I don't usually.

Yes, at the time I was doing a fresh install of 11-10 which was to be upgraded
to 12-04 for testing.
I checked the box for the 3rd party drivers and after installation and
rebooting I found that the 173 driver had been installed rather than the
nvidia-current driver, which is the correct driver for my card.

Me too :-)
Is this the same bug that causes the screen to go black when watching a video
in full screen mode? Same cause?

[Bug 805252] Re: appmenu shows nautilus menu when desktop is displayed

2011-09-03 Thread Quackers
I too have the above symptoms in unity.
However, in gnome-shell the system loads fine but when the pointer is moved to
top left to get the Applications menu, the desktop crashes and defaults to
fallback.
