[Bug 424927] Re: include CK patch set (BFS)

2011-04-10 Thread Quartz
Does Kolivas post the patches to a mailing list of his own? Maybe this
could be announced in the same list (Ubuntu is, after all, one of the
distros with highest market share...).

[Bug 424927] Re: include CK patch set (BFS)

2011-04-02 Thread Quartz
What's more "experimental" about this patch than the other ones?

Although I agree this is not the best place for a long discussion or a
long list of announcements, I hardly know the place for a non-standard
packaging announcement...

[Bug 424927] Re: include CK patch set (BFS)

2010-04-22 Thread Quartz
The solution I indicated will do that, you just need to value of
GRUB_DEFAULT to be the exact string of the kernel name (as displayed in
the grub menu).

[Bug 424927] Re: include CK patch set (BFS)

2010-04-21 Thread Quartz
You can configure the default boot kernel, set by order (for instance,
always the top one), or by name.

It goes more or less like (you have to google for details)

vi /etc/default/grub
change GRUB_DEFAULT=0 value to wanted kernel (position or name)
run update-grub to update

[Bug 424927] Re: include Brain f#%k Scheduler

2010-03-04 Thread Quartz
My vote (although I'm not sure this is a democracy) would be to use the
acronym. Whenever I search, I'm not going to type the whole name
anyway, might as well make the title illustrative, like "Include a
kernel with BFS/BFQ support", or maybe "Include a kernel with Kolivas'
interactivity patches (BFS/BFQ/etc)".

[Bug 424927] Re: include Brain fuck Scheduler

2010-02-02 Thread Quartz
Thanks, Daniel!

That kernel seems to start up ok for me, even though I'm using Karmic,
using the binary nvidia.

Response times are HUGELY better during java parallel compilation (heavy
memory and IO usage and somewhat heavy CPU usage too). Mostly visible
while switching workspaces and tabs on Chromium.

In the beginning, I thought it was mostly placebo effect, but going from
"a couple of seconds" for a refresh during the heaviest parts to "I can
barely notice it" was very discerning. I wish I had some probes setup
to quantify this...

[Bug 394065] [NEW] Usability: Icons are confusing

2009-06-30 Thread Quartz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

The "busy" and "away" icons are confusing.

Busy should not be green (green is go, proceed), and should not have a
page on top of it (page looks like a message arrived).

Away should not be red and specially not a triangle (red means problem
and a red triangle twice as much, in some countries it is standard car
equipment for emergency stops). There are other unwanted connotations
with red triangles (family planning, the badge used by political
prisoners in nazi camps).

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 162016] Re: cups printjobs unload /dev/usblp0

2008-04-23 Thread Quartz
I'm using Ubuntu Hardy Heron (everything up to date, original install
was beta5 I believe), default detection of the printer (detected
automatically to hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_1020?serial=JL2R4KC), and I confirm
this as NOT being the wrong URL.

I have the exact same problem, HP LJ1200, prints ok from OpenOffice, but
not from Evince.

Running hp-makeuri on the proper usb combo (on my sys, 006:003) yields
the same URL: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_1020?serial=JL2R4KC.

Even if the reason is not the specified one, the symptoms are valid and
the bug shouldn't be closed.

Is there any log I can provide?
