[Bug 1882543] Re: Issue with suspend

2020-06-08 Thread Empathic Qubit
** Description changed:

When trying to suspend with an Acer Spin 13 Chromebook using kernel
5.4.0-33-generic, using `sudo systemctl suspend`, the computer will not
resume. I have also tested this using kernel version 5.3, and that seems
to «suspend», however, the fan spins like crazy while suspended, and the
computer seems to come back instantly when the lid is opened, which
seems to indicate it didn´t actually do anything. I have also tested
this with 5.7-rc3, both the prebuilt Ubuntu package and compiling from
kernel.org sources, and that seems to yield similar results as 5.4. I
think the computer recognizes the lid switch correctly, but I wanted to
eliminate any possible desktop environment configuration issues which is
why I used the command above.

More information about this system and issue can be found at
  https://github.com/MrChromebox/firmware/issues/176 .
+
+ I have a course this week that I need this computer for but I´ll be able
+ to test things after that.

I'm fine with that solution, not sure which one to keep open though..

Bug 76238 is older, has more comments, and is already triaged to NEW, so
that one seems like a reasonable choice, even if this bug is a bit more
targeted to the specific problem.

Status - RESOLVED DUPLICATE

This is absolutely right. I did not realise that the appropriate dictionary
 was not installed when
the spellcheck is run with a language that has no spellcheck dictionary, I
think it should return and say no dictionary installed rather than just
 spellcheck complete.

Sounds like bug 76238 has proposed a similar remedy. Perhaps one of
these two should be closed as a dupe of the other?

[Bug 340051]

2014-11-17 Thread Qubit
(In reply to Christopher M. Penalver from comment #14)
Unfortunately, NEW is not an available Status

NEW makes sense if it's possible/likely to get fixed. My guess is that
most Calc devs are going to punt on it, at best.

 UNCONFIRMED doesn't apply

I don't like to see bugs sitting in UNCONFIRMED permanently, but I
haven't seen the case made for this bug yet. It's unclear to me that
(aside from docs) there is some code to write here.

as it's more than confirmed up and downstream, so it's REOPENED.

REOPENED is a very specific state that covers bugs that have been
patched/marked as FIXED by a dev, and then have been reopened because
the fix didn't work or was incomplete. That's not the case here.

I'm fine with this remaining open as a lowest priority enhancement request,
given the scope of this report is narrow and well defined, in that it's not
increase precision on everything, but an Excel calcuation parity request in
a well defined case as noted in the Description, and downstream.

As Markus noted, this is a pretty small component of compatibility.
We're not talking about the difference between, say, 10k and 500k rows,
we're talking about some nuances of floating-point math when operating
on HUGE (or incredibly *small*) numbers.

As well, this not being a high priority issue is both expected and
understandable. However, being able to seemlessly exchange documents between
colleagues using Excel, without the hassle of having to WORKAROUND
compatibility issues would be fair here. Especially in light of how
compatibility is a focus of the project -
 http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/libreoffice/ :
LibreOffice is compatible with many document formats such as Microsoft®
 Word, Excel...

LibreOffice and MS-Office will never be 100% perfectly compatible.
Things like 'seamless' compatibility will be difficult when there are
fonts that ship with MS-Office that we aren't legally allowed to
distribute, let alone nuances in the implementation of floating-point
arithmetic ;-)

If you're looking for precision regarding big or small number arithmetic
like this, I think that something like Sage or Octave would be an
appropriate software package to use.

Despite this, I've placed myself as the QA contact if you would have further
questions on the scope of this report.

Making yourself the QA Contact is great, but I remain skeptical that any
dev will pick this up. In fact, Markus explained the problem pretty
well:

The only solution would be to use exact numbers instad of floating point
numbers, but this will have even bigger performance impact.

It's pretty clear to me that Markus doesn't think that we should trade
performance for increased decimal place precision, and I'm inclined to
trust his judgment. I still think this bug should be marked as a dupe
and become a documented limitation of LO.

Question: What's you goal here? Do you want to match the behavior of
Excel, or just increase the precision of these calculations? The former
seems more doable than the latter.

(please change status back to 'UNCONFIRMED' after you leave a comment)

[Bug 340051]

2014-11-17 Thread Qubit
(In reply to Markus Mohrhard from comment #7)
@christopher I still don't think that this is really a bug, we just behave a
bit different than excel. I suppose there will always be some differences
between calc and excel and not all are bugs.

If we're not going to regard this as a bug, I think that loss of
precision different behavior from Excel = a good candidate for
documentation.

The problem still persists in version 3.6.4.3 (Win7, 64). I also find it in

Just open the attached odp file, save it as fodt and do a reload ...

CONFIRMED with LO 3.0.0 (OOO330m19 (Build:6) tag libreoffice-3.3.0.4) +
Ubuntu 14.04

Saving the example odp file as FODP, reopening it, and then examining

[Bug 1373928]

2014-09-27 Thread Qubit
NO REPRO with (TDF-built) LO 4.3.2.2 + Ubuntu 14.04

(In reply to comment #0)
 Example hsqldb database

Numeric are not correctly display and either an empty field or 0 is shown.

Repro Steps:

1) Open test.odb
2) Database - Tables - (double click on) test-table
3) See that the numeric values are empty/0 as described by OP

Here's what I see:

id name count
0 foo 42
1 bar 4711

(In reply to comment #8)
This is certainly interesting. Normally I would close the bug as NOTOURBUG
here then (because it would be a distro bug only).

Agreed.

I have an idea about the
reason though, as I enabled mergedlibs on 4.3.2 and had to move some lib
into it to get rid of circular deps: dbtools -- which sounds like it could
 cause this trouble.

 Adding distro bug reference.

Okay, leaving this one for you, Bjoern. Feel free to assign it to
yourself, given that it's not something we can repro with current TDF
builds.

@Joel Madero: Testing older releases is useless, since official builds don't

What about older KDE builds? Can we dig up something from Kubuntu?

[Bug 1017771] [NEW] LibreOffice Calc needs extra packages to use Address book

2012-06-25 Thread qubit
Public bug reported:

Per this question on ask.LO:
http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/2573/error-the-component/

---
When I'm in LibreOffice Calc and try to assign an Adress [sic] book by the File
- Templates - Adress Book Source - Adress Data Source I get the following
error: The component (com.sun.star.ui.dialogs.AddressBookSourcePilot) could not
be loaded. Please start setup with the repair option.

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) and LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2)
and don't know how to fix this / start the repair option.
---

The reporter made a follow-up comment describing the fix:

---
Installing the LibreOffice suite by the software center of Ubuntu fixed the
problem. By default Ubuntu only installs a few LibreOffice programs. Probably
the Adress [sic] Book is only usable if you have the full suite.
---

It looks like either the Calc package needs an extra package or two
added as a dependency, or the Calc stand-alone package needs to be
configured to disable the Address Book functionality.

Thanks!

[Bug 366264] Re: [Dell XPS m1530] Resume fails after hibernate/suspend

2009-06-01 Thread qubit
I just did some testing with hibernation and finally got something to
resume!

Unfortunately, the method is:
- Boot Ubuntu with quiet/splash off and no_console_suspend on
- Go immediately to Virtual Terminal 1
- 'sudo pm-hibernate'

(The computer hibernates)

- Start up the machine
- (Again) Boot Ubuntu with quiet/splash off and no_console_suspend on

I was dropped right back where I started on Virtual Terminal 1, with the
preceding lines showing in the terminal, etc. Although this method of
hibernation worked, when I tried to go to Virtual Terminal 7 (which is
running X), the system froze up.

These three lines appeared when I was entering hibernation. They're the
same as what I saw when entering suspend:

Jun 1 13:20:16 mash kernel: [ 108.090910] btusb_intr_complete: hci0 urb
880117ce4f00 failed to resubmit (1)

Jun 1 13:20:16 mash kernel: [ 108.091971] btusb_bulk_complete: hci0 urb

I've attached the appropriate chunk of kern.log, annotated with what
happened and when.

[Bug 361852] Re: [Jaunty] Resume from hibernate doesn't work on a Dell XPS M1330

2009-06-01 Thread qubit
I'm experiencing similar hibernation/suspend issues on my m1530 (the
bigger brother of the m1330). See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/366264 for details.

I'm not sure if my bug is exactly the same as this one plaguing the
m1330, but removing 'quiet' and 'splash' from the boot params and
working from vt1 instead of from inside X made hibernation work.

[Bug 366264] Re: [Dell XPS m1530] Resume fails after hibernate/suspend

2009-06-01 Thread qubit
This forum thread looks interesting:

Lenovo T400 Suspend / Hibernate / Resume Problems

...Sometimes, it flashes some text on the screen really quickly...like
this:

btusb_intr_complete failed to resubmit
btusb_send_frame submission failed

UPDATE: If I suspend or hibernate after I've dropped down to a console,
then resume works fine. So it looks like it's a GNOME / X / Intel driver
problem.

I'm thinking that there's a correlation between these btusb errors and
hibernation failing in relation to X.

= Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?

The machine appears to power-off when I send it into hibernation, and

is breaking when it's waking up.

[Bug 162701] Re: pidgin freezes while typing a message

2009-05-06 Thread qubit
Upgrading my system to Ubuntu 9.04 x86_64 (pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8) has
fixed the problem for me.

To be specific: I can now uncheck Mute Sounds and Pidgin will play a
happy do-DOO sound when it starts up and (automatically) logs into to
Freenode.

It's entirely possible that it was not the upgrade to pidgin but
something else (maybe Evolution, as raccoonone suggests) that fixed this
problem.

[Bug 366264] Re: [Dell XPS m1530] Resume fails after hibernate/suspend

2009-05-06 Thread qubit
Following the notes at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume, here's
some more information:

= Is it reproducible?
Yes -- I've tried to hibernate or suspend the machine several times, and it has
never been able to resume.

= Did it work before?
I've never gotten the machine to resume using Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04.

The machine came with a Dell-specific version of Ubuntu installed, but I
wiped it almost immediately and installed a dual-boot of WinXP and
Ubuntu 8.10. I can suspend/resume correctly using WinXP.

= Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar?

I do not believe so. I'll check.

[Bug 367408] [NEW] [Dell XPS m1530] Shutdown sometimes hangs

2009-04-26 Thread qubit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

I'm having a problem getting the computer to completely power-off on
shutdown.

What fails:
- Boot from GRUB, login, 'sudo ls /root' in a terminal, shutdown from menu

What works:
- Boot, shutdown from menu on login screen
- Boot, login, shutdown from menu
- Boot, login, turn off wireless from GUI, 'sudo ls /root' in a terminal,
shutdown from menu

When the computer hangs, Virtual Terminals are active (although I cannot type
anything but newlines in them) , and the tty from my graphical login shows:
Killing all remaining processes...[fail]
and then a few lines later:
mount: / is busy

Relevant bugs may include bug #161862, bug #326988.

I'm also having problems with suspend/hibernate (bug #366264), but I'm
not sure if that problem is related as it also occurred when I was
running 8.10, and I believe that I never had a problem with Shutdown
hanging under 8.10.

[Bug 367408] Re: [Dell XPS m1530] Shutdown sometimes hangs

2009-04-26 Thread qubit
As suggested in bug #326988, I've tried removing the 'quiet' and
'splash' kernel boot arguments. This change seemed to alleviate the
problem, as I've been unable to make Shutdown hang anymore.

I think that this bug is probably a dupe, but I'll let someone else make
that call.

[Bug 366264] [NEW] [Dell XPS m1530] Resume fails after hibernate/suspend

2009-04-24 Thread qubit
Public bug reported:

I haven't been able to get hibernate/suspend working with 8.10 or 9.04
on this laptop.

Under 8.10:
When I try to hibernate the machine it appears to hibernate and power down.
When I power-on the machine, the ubuntu splash screen appears and the progress
bar moves (small bar moving back and forth inside the progress bar), but then
it freezes after a few seconds. A few moments later the screen will go to black
for half a second, then back to the frozen splash screen + progress bar.

After giving it some time, I have to restart the machine.

I've appended a chunk of my kernel log to the forum thread here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1131224

Under 9.04:
Basically the same behavior.

I'm highly motivated to get this fixed, as this is my primary work laptop and
not having hibernate/suspend working on it is a royal pain and tempts me to
boot into WinXP instead of Ubuntu.

[Bug 162701] Re: pidgin freezes while typing a message

2009-04-21 Thread qubit
Pidgin had been working fine for me, but suddenly stopped working in the
last couple of days. I could log on to a jabber server without problem,
but logging on to IRC (Freenode) would cause the window to hang as soon
as I logged in.

After running pidgin on the command line, I found the same gstreamer error:
tr...@mash:~$ pidgin -d | tee pidgin-debug.log

Got me:
(12:34:17) gstreamer: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

Disabling sounds (Preferences - Sounds - Mute Sounds) fixed the
problem for me.

Here's what I'm running:
Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 (no restricted drivers; fully up to date)
Pidgin 2.5.2 (1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1.1)
Dell XPS m1530 laptop

I'd be happy to upgrade to Jaunty and do some testing to help squash
this bug.
